Favourites Links by Danny Foo

This has got to be the most unproductive post I’ve written. Okay, I’m kidding. I’ve done worst crap when I used to blog from the college classroom while the lecturer was teaching. Oops! Well, I was bored at the time and Macromedia Director programming seriously is my weakness – I even forgot what do you call the language it uses.

Anyway, this was a meme given to me by some hot Muslim chic. I would tell you to watch how she argues with herself and how incompetent she is trying to design her blog but she removed the video (Why, Aisyah!). But mind you, she’s one smart girl (not a lady yet I think) and she is hot – I guess. So one fine day she decides to torment me by passing me this meme; my favourite links.

The Malaysia Blog No One Cared About

My blog was unavailable the past 3-4 days due to a dumb mistake I made unconsciously. Any reader who came to my blog during the time would see the landing page above (click image for larger). It was what I’d call; my BRB page, instead of under construction. And believe me, nothing was under construction. I was busy reinstalling my blog and restoring all my 605 posts.

So why would it take me 3-4 days to restore everything? It takes less than 5 minutes to setup WordPress, right? Well, yes it took me less than 2 minutes to get WordPress up and running. But I spent a half-day figuring out why my imported WordPress WXR backup file wasn’t importing right. Then, I spent more than 2 hours splitting up the backup file (I’ll explain later) in preparation to import. But it gets better.

Malaysia Companies Are Improving Work Environments

Being the co-founder of a registered Malaysia website design company; Simpleet, I’ve to do some research on local working environments. But not to worry, because I also know about the awesome-ness of the Google office work environments. Plus, I’m seeing more companies now realizing and adopting the need for an enjoyable work environment for their employees.

One company I’ve been given the chance to experience this, the new GreenPacket headquarters located beside the Federal Highway. A little history of the building is its been there for a number of years rented out to bear large advertisements. I know this because I’ve been residing in PJ all my life and I’ve passed it when I studied high school. So, let me show you how one Malaysia company has changed their work environment.

My Blog Was Featured in The Maybank2u Press Conference

It’s been a month since I attended the special preview of the new Maybank2u website launch. Then, David informed me my review was highlighted during yesterday’s new maybank2u website press conference. It was alongside 2 other bloggers; Erna Mahyuni and David Lian.

They quoted from my entry:

…I was more impressed with one of the slides shared by Maybank’s virtual banking department. It displayed a real summary of how much commitment and importance Maybank had finally given to its website.

Someone Is Stealing My Blog Content Again

Not even a month has passed and I’ve found another thief stealing my blog content. This thief is smarter in hiding his/her identity but I’ve a hunch he/she is from China. The article ripped off is my iPhone in Malaysia upgrade from 1.1.4 to 2.0.1. It seems there is an increase of spam blogs all … Read more

Wimax Must Now Come To Petaling Jaya

I was reading InTech from The Star today and I found a news article to my joy. Not only was I thinking now Wimax have to come to Petaling Jaya, but the news benefits all ICT companies within Petaling Jaya. Why? It’s because Bandar Utama (and Mid Valley City) have been elevated to cybercentres. What this means for my website design and development company like Simpleet Solutions is:

MSC-status companies can now house their businesses at these locations.

Although we’ve not applied for an MSC application yet, it’s awesome to now be able to have our office closer to our homes. Rather than to pay for tolls, burn more petrol to reach Cyberjaya, patiently wait for the car in front to move while some other jack*ss squeezes his car into your lane and most importantly, to reach home for dinner on time.

To Limit or Not To Limit Internet Download Capacity

Honestly speaking, this sounds like a chicken and egg story. The one posing the question and the one answering the question wants their answers or renditions to be correct. Hence, it’s the same when someone asks; should Internet Service Providers (ISP) limit download capacity? The guy who downloads a lot would obviously feud while the lady who wants the Internet connection to be fast screams “booyah!”.

I recently found out after the whole Malaysia Wimax launch, selected ISPs implement what they term as a fair usage policy – even in Wimax. When the ISP applies this policy, it means its customers will use their provided Internet connection at a controlled rate. You might have heard the words; throttled, from your average Malaysian complaining about our Internet connection before. Think of it as not being able to fully utilize the promised speeds you were sold on. It sure pisses me off.

The New Maybank2u Website is Finally Here

Like a number of other Malaysia bloggers, I was invited to witness and experience the private launch of the new Maybank2u website dubbed Maybank2u 2.0. Yes, as loosely the term is used I was really surprised the effort and responsibility Maybank’s virtual banking group has taken to upgrade their current website – it’s terrible now.

If there was one thing I always banged the current Maybank2u website, it was it’s information architecture or call it; website structure. I remember without fail I’d comment on how I couldn’t find anything I wanted and resorted to using Google whenever I wanted to find what I wanted on Maybank2u. But all that’s going to change – I hope.

Someone Is Stealing My Blog Content

I’ve never considered myself a Malaysia prominent blogger. Heck, I’ve never even self-proclaimed it but apparently some b*stard thinks so and is now stealing my blog content – text and images. The best part is he’s stealing it and posting it up in his created Blogger account. Thank you, Blogger (and Google – since you own the company).

Obviously, the first thing I did was find a way to report it to Blogger. And what d’ya know, I found the most accurate heading; Someone is stealing my content. I really expected to find a form or something but they’ve made it a tedious process for you to report someone stealing your content. Want to know why?

YouTube as a Social Media Marketing Platform

There was one time I asked; What is social media marketing? I’ve not found out enough to be an expert yet. But what I’ve observed so far is many use online video sharing websites like YouTube, Vimeo and others as a social media marketing platform. A place where you can expect thousand of visitors sitting in front of their monitors watching Internet videos and commenting on them.

Have you seen any Malaysia company take advantage of YouTube? Or, Vimeo? Is it because it’s not really in our Malaysia culture to stare into our monitors to watch videos online? Or, is the video we are watching isn’t as entertaining as what we view in the television?
