New MYNIC Malaysia Website Launches and Misses

MYNIC is the domain registry and domain registrar in Malaysia. They also are administrator for the .my top level domain name and second-level Malaysia domain names for organizations, businesses and individuals. Such as .com.my, .net.my, .org.my, .gov.my, .edu.my, .mil.my, and .name.my.

Currently, you can only register Malaysia domain names with MYNICs appointed resellers. And, not every company may apply to be a reseller (even if you are an MSC company). But I’m not here to rant about the MYNIC registration process. Instead, I’d like to discuss about their new website launched on June 25, 2008.

Will Smith is Coming to Malaysia

No, I am not kidding. Rumors have it Will Smith will be landing in Malaysia next month; July. This information was leaked by a reliable source though not in direct relation to Mr.Smith. However, it’s not been confirmed if Will Smith will physically be here. ;)

What’s cooler than meeting Will Smith? I’d say a superhero, namely; Hancock. If you’ve not heard, Hancock is the superhero character played by Will Smith. Though unlike any superhero normally perfect, the story starts with Hancock being a complete buffoon. He apparently is a homeless who drinks too much and sinks a ship in the attempt of saving a whale. Talk about things which can go wrong for superheroes.

The Malaysia Website Design Portfolio Mistake

Like you, I’m a Malaysia website designer. However, I’ve been absent from the freelance scene and am now running my own company; Simpleet Solutions. One of the most important tools for any freelance website designer is to host their portfolio. The works you have completed for big timers or big names and would like to proudly brandish it to future clients.

You may think hosting a terrible portfolio is a mistake. Well, it is but I know of another mistake Malaysia freelance website designers should avoid. And that is, linking to websites which companies no longer use and it now belongs to some cybersquatter.

All-Malaysian Bloggers Project Smashin Gathering 2008

Thanks to All-Malaysian Bloggers Project (AMBP), Cinema Online and Microsoft Malaysia for making the second blogger gathering a success at Outpost, Cineleisure Damansara.

The Perfect E-Commerce Website Layout

The votes so far on the Nuffnang poll I put up (on the right; Nuffnang Column) lean towards website lessons and website design. So have you ever thought you would find or create the perfect e-commerce website layout? And, the website layout may not necessarily refer to the website design.

A perfect website layout is like when Indiana Jones was in search for the last crusade and lead him towards the Holy Grail. Movie metaphors aside a thought hit me one day; what if I created an e-commerce website layout which was near perfect?

The Real Reason Readers Unsubscribe From Email Newsletters

Email marketing isn’t only about promoting or selling your products. I’m sure Internet marketers will always tell you one of their secrets is to build a mailing list and market your affiliate products or services to potential customers. Plus, you will have to persistently do this convert these potential customers.

Well, I believe the trend is slowly changing and the above trend is dying. As more users face advertisements daily, they’re tired of reading emails which are of no relevance and importance to them already. Here’s a quick example; I recently unsubscribed from a newsletter because it kept trying to sell me something over and over again. But no, it wasn’t the selling which drove me away. It was something more basic.

Are You Still Wasting Money On Your Website?

Back in 2005, I shared about how some websites are losing money because they were announcing the commonly used message; Under Construction. Today, many Malaysia website owners, entrepreneurs and managers are still having the same mentality.

If the webpage isn’t ready or prepared by the appointed deadline, they would say…

Nevermind, it’s a small matter. We could just put the message “Under Construction”.

The luckiest client I’ve seen avoid this pitfall replaced and suggested this message…

We are currently reviewing the content of this webpage.

but this also makes you and your company lose credibility.
