Position Makes Everything

Have you seen this particular scene in a movie where a group of movers were carrying a large furniture or object that needed to placed somewhere however because of the undecisive family member, they end up moving from one area to the next?

That is exactly how a designer sometimes feel when designing a website. I was designing for a project and suddenly became indecisive over a content section and a Google Adsense ad. According to Google Adsense tips and the common human reading habit, the left side is where most humans concentrate on first when they’re doing some reading. Hence, making the left side one of the main spots for content.

MALAYSIAN PIRATED BLOGGER

We’ve heard of the great dilemma Claire of Minishorts faced when she discovered someone plagiarized her post directly, HERE. The perpetrator not only copied the images that were edited by Claire but also the article written by her. Now, as a blogger, that is truly sinking to an all time low.

I’m very sure everyone wants to make a quick buck and a name for themselves as fast as they can. Therefore I’d like to hereby announce the winner of the quickest, lowest, shadiest (if there’s a word) blogger or person in Malaysia. He is the owner of BloggerTips.

Blog Metamorphosis

Like a caterpillar that hopes to one day become a beautiful butterfly, we carry on with our normal blogging life till we reach maturity. After that, we start pausing between blog posts and figured that our blogs need something different.

Hence came forth the need to find a niche for our blog. The niche is like the caterpillar trying to find a safe place for it to become the butterfly. However, unlike the caterpillar that rests inside its protective cage, we continue our blogging on the verge to become that beautiful object of desire.

PPS Site Skeleton

What’s a site skeleton?

A site skeleton is what me and some other web designers or companies use to create a draft for a website. The skeleton is some times nothing but lines or boxes with crosses in them signifying images. Some times the skeleton also have rough lines with the letter ‘H’ at the beginning to visually remind the designer that content is placed that particular area.

The site skeleton helps me organize the elements like images, content and ads if any. It also gives my clients a rough idea of what would be expected even before a mock design is prepared. The mock design is the skeleton that has been digitized but that’ll be later.

PPS Analysis Review

This analysis is the data submitted by PPS members who took the time and answer the questions below. Thank you to all who completed it and even voiced their own opinions.

1. What is PPS main priority or goal for you?

2. What do you do on PPS?

3. What is the purpose of the Wiki for you?

4. If all services (Wiki, Blog, Pings, RSS, Directory) were placed on the homepage, will you visit them? If yes or no, please state Why?

5. Do you think all the services should have a consistent design and colour?

The reason for such an analysis as I explained in my previous post, PPS Needs You! was that this data was to help me find out PPS current weakness and enforce my own personal findings or judgements to help better PPS.

PPS NEEDS YOU!

Ever since Project Petaling Street had revamped, few have actually commented on the new layout or outlook. The new face was launched on 31st August 2005. Why did it pick such a specific date? I have no idea. But I do wonder if a change on such a significant date might confuse some bloggers of PPS real anniversary. So let’s do a little history.

Do you know when is PPS actual birthday? Was it..

  • ..9 June 2003 ?
  • ..11 June 2003 ?
  • ..30 June 2003 ?
  • ..30 June 2004 ?

The Client Proposal

Now that the Merdeka fever has toned down a notch, I’m able to catch up on some reading online once again. As much as I’d like to say there’s nothing better than sitting in front of the screen, reading the papers and sipping my hot cuppa latte, it just doesn’t fit.

So cutting right to the chase, I pulled up a few of my favourite reading sources. Digital Web Magazine has matured in style ever since I started reading it, their articles are applauded by me half the time. *applause* This time around, they were discussing request for proposal (RFP) or clients requesting for a proposal.

Project Petaling Street In Your Face

As usual, out of the blue something is thrown right in your face without intention of harm. However, though as much I’d like to be happy for PPS, Aizuddin, and others who’ve worked hard in making it better..I am honestly not very happy.

There isn’t any harm throwing a huge surprise to the audience. But when it concerns the user interface which in return will reflect heavily on the usability of a website, I can’t rest at ease to see something I looked highly upon has somehow lost its touch.

Happy 48th Birthday Malaysia

The past whole week not I’ve been busy setting up the Merdeka Blogger Project. I’ve also been busy coordinating with my team on what needed to be done. Along the way, I’ve had feedback from authors that we lack few things. But the needs have been resolved already.

As much as I’d like to be blogging solely about Merdeka Day and the celebration we’ll all be having in the next 5 minutes, I’d just like to shout a big thank you to all bloggers who saw the potential in this project. You’ve helped make this happen and gave us the confidence to not breakdown and go mad.

Merdeka Blogger Project LAUNCHED

Whew! It’s been 4-5 days and Claire has been chasing my tail to get the project up and running as soon as possible. So basically she’s my excuse of not posting for quite awhile now. LoL!

merdekablogger.gif

But it’s finally out and it’s gone live. I’m still quite disappointed with the layout cause I know I could’ve done better somewhere somehow. But given the shortage in time and sudden change of the project concept a little, I suppose I should be happy it’s working. And I didn’t do it alone..thank goodness.
