The Extended Post for Blogspot

Recently I received an email from a fellow reader (I think) and he wanted to know how some users made a ‘read more’ link to their entry. If you’re using WordPress (WP) or MovableType (MT) or any other stand-alone publishing engine, there normally is an Entry Body and Extended Entry section when typing a post.

WP and MT have built-in codes to generate the ‘read more’ link for you. However, for Blogspot users, they only have the Entry Body to put up their post and by default, the whole post is published on the homepage.

Be a Merdeka Blogger

After the visit to London by ol’ Tunku Abdul Rahman, many Malayan (not known as Malaysian yet) gathered at the Merdeka Stadium awaiting words they long to be uttered ever since their soil was visited by foreign power. These words made into phrases was to congratulate them of their country spirit and declaration for the country’s independence from the British empire.

That day was on 31st August 1957; where Tunku Abdul Rahman stood on a podium with several other British officers seated behind him facing the abrupt Malayan crowd. When his speech had ended, he shouted this word continuously that is now one of the most celebrated words of our country.

He shouted, “MERDEKA! MERDEKA! MERDEKA!”

(mer-de-ka is the Malayan translation for freedom).

WebSighting #7

Just recently I got an email from agent DesignersDepot and the retrieved results this time around was astounding. Not only are there 2 websites featured this time round, these websites are in Flash.

Yes, the dreaded interactive motion tool that is now plagued as one of the worst media to use online. Reason? Just because its been abused by many designers who only utilize its minor potential, that is animation.

Alas, there are modern designers around who still remember how to utilize this tool to great lengths. Not only do these websites showcase excellent animation, their innovativity with the inclusion of video is just wonderful.

Fake PayPal Website Out

Starting yet another hazy day, I launched my email client to check if there were any new emails. The feeling of receiving emails is always a happy thing because it feels comforting that someone out there cares or wonders about you.

As much as it pleases anybody to receive fan email or in my case, feedback of my blog or website, the emails sent to me were newsletters and invites. I got a newsletter from Thawte; company selling SSL certificates, and it’s weird because I don’t remember subscribing to them. The invites were interesting with one coming from Softnyx (Gunbound creators) asking if I’d like to BETA test their new fantasy game called, Raikon.

The second invite came from supposedly PayPal. Everything in the email down to the email address listed it as coming from PayPal themselves. However, one crucial mistake foiled this phishing scam.

The term phishing is used to described a scam by sending an email to an end-user with the representation that the email was send from a legitimate establishment, but the true intent is to gather personal information of the end-user with the intent to fraudulent use these information. ~ Symmetric Triangle

WebSighting #6

Agent CSSBeauty left a report in my inbox since I was MIA for quite awhile. There were quite a few potential websites on the list but I decided to just go with one. What’s the reason for it? Well, I’m not sure if it’s locally done but the brand just made me want to mention it. The brand is called; Idaman Suri.

The products being sold are instant recipes to be used in cooking. I used these lots of time but of a different brand when I was in Melbourne. It’s really that all you need is the meat, some extra stuff of your own and the base recipe. Thankfully lunch is coming up cause I’m getting hungry imagining chicken curry or something.

Is Web Design Simple?

Last week I read an article either in InTech or Computimes that questioned the movement of web development today. The writer was explaining how some websites aren’t designed anymore to conceptual design and instead head down simple lane. As much as I’d like to hammer the writer at first, but what was typed was true to each word of it.

The border or crossing between usability, accessibility and web design have been questioned quite a few times. The same question has been asked over and over again of how does a person know where is the line and balance of all this? Because of usability and accessibility, Flash media had started to be disregarded by some developers and designers today.

PPS Matures More

You read that right, Project Petaling Street (PPS) is maturing even more now. Lots of incidents have reflected back on bloggers, PPS and now Aizuddin has hatched out plans for a PPS blog and another secret project in the works.

It’s hard to guess what it is but I suppose it’s going to be something really big. He seeked 12 bloggers as ‘beta testers’ for the secret project. However, doing my weekend check on PPS just earlier had me wondering of a new panel just added above the SmartThumb ad called, Featured Blog.

Sony Ericsson K750

How do you not drool over a mobile phone that has a 2.0 MegaPixel (MP) built in it? Well, yeah there’s the option of looking forward to Nokia’s new releases or Samsung’s whopping 7 MP camera phone with a huge a** lens. But if your friend was holding this phone and snapping pictures of you in it, don’t lie and say you aren’t impressed with its quality.

I’ve been eyeing this phone ever since I heard news about it. I couldn’t believe my eyes especially when I saw the results of the photos. If you’re going to tell me about 3G and how it is affordable right now, well, you go ahead and spend RM2k on the phone excluding the roughly RM60+ per month charges using it.

And of course, there’s more to this post then just a phone I want. ;)
