Sony Ericsson K750

How do you not drool over a mobile phone that has a 2.0 MegaPixel (MP) built in it? Well, yeah there’s the option of looking forward to Nokia’s new releases or Samsung’s whopping 7 MP camera phone with a huge a** lens. But if your friend was holding this phone and snapping pictures of you in it, don’t lie and say you aren’t impressed with its quality.

I’ve been eyeing this phone ever since I heard news about it. I couldn’t believe my eyes especially when I saw the results of the photos. If you’re going to tell me about 3G and how it is affordable right now, well, you go ahead and spend RM2k on the phone excluding the roughly RM60+ per month charges using it.

And of course, there’s more to this post then just a phone I want. ;)

I picked up this link from one of the blogs on my favourites list. It’s the Sony Ericsson’s K750 awareness campaign microsite. What’s the difference of a website, a product homepage and a microsite?

Website is the entirety of the existence of ones pages contained on their host.

Product homepage is the page on the website that displays the needed information about that particular product.

Microsite is a miniature website that focuses on a single goal. Normally used in marketing campaigns to promote a product, launch a product, market an event or in this case, create the awareness of the capabilities connected with Sony Ericsson’s K750. ;)

The interface is direct use of images with a nifty loading sequence. See how simple ideas are cool and goes with a suitable theme? This website’s usage of Flash is definetely great. It utilizes Flash functions like video and possibly dynamic XML data. Using Flash fully in cases like this not only benefits the client but also fulfills the designers goal of communicating with the audience.

If you see a Flash banner on a website, if it doesn’t connect with you in any way then don’t you think the client doesn’t exactly benefit from it? If the banner makes you click on it then its mechanics fulfills it’s required goal.

Flash shouldn’t be used aimlessly for the sake of a trend or current fad. It shouldn’t be suggested to clients without a main goal. It should be used as a communication tool to interact with the visitor. If you’re just going let visitors click a button and throw them around, that was once qualified as interactive.

This interactivity can be achieved with plain Javascript and HTML even. That is why, don’t opt for for the usage of Flash unless it really accomplishes what is needed. You pay for the quality and the successful return of a project and not to just open your visitors eyes. If the person you hire doesn’t have a strong reason for it, why do you need it? If the client wants you to implement it, how do you give them something worthy in return?

The answer to these questions are part of good web design. These are the same principles you could ask yourself when implementing things on your website. And these are the extra things I do for my clients.

  1. Yeah.. my friend worked his a** off for quite sometime to save up for the K750… quite an impressive phone indeed.. but since i would only be using the camera and it’s mp3 capabilities often.. simply put.. kick a** phones aren’t my thing.. besides, i would go “ouch” and watch my credit dip everytime i use stuff like MMS or GPRS or WAP or watever u call it…

for now, i can only drool at the Dell 17″ UltraSharp (LCD) as a desktop wallpaper on my Samsung 793DF (CRT).. sigh…

anyways, just dropping by to say hi..

  2. Well, I don’t think a new phone wil be anywhere near my future expenditure just yet. Unless I get bombarded by projects. ;)

As for LCD, I’m considering the CMV, Avixe, Viewsonic, BenQ and maybe some other brands. From what I heard, you can’t get the 17″ Ultrasharp no more. *shrug*

I just noticed Curry was endorsing mobile photography on Nokia too. hmm..
