Before I went to Melbourne and while I was there, I’ve heard stories from many advising be careful of who you work with. In this case, it’s more serious because you might want to set up a company with a partner. Everyone definetely would like to own their own company some time. It’s grand to go around telling friends, “I run this company..” or “Oh, that work is by MY company..”
Well, before we even think about that. The article; The Partner Track from Entrepreneur.com would be very handy. It’s suppose to act as a benchmark and brief you on going about choosing a partner or stay solo.
A quick list of items you’ll find in the article:
- Shared Goals
- Different Roles
- Compatible Tastes
- Effective Decision-Making
- Share (and Often Share Alike)
- Trust–but Verify
- Don’t Sign On With Your Best Friend
Do you feel anything unusual about the list? Well, I’m down with most of them except the last one. I haven’t finished telling you the story my friends have told me.
Well, few friends have spoken to me about being either cheated or showed disrespect by friends when working together. And the worst part is that I know some of these friends. Now, I’m always a person who tries to look at things from multiple angles. That’s why I’ve tried reasoning with some friends who’ve been hurt and let them know I choose my work buddies carefully.
Anyone might disguise themselves with a monitor but when the work starts, their true nature would show sooner or later. I think the reason of this is because when we’re online, our annonymity gets the better of us. We allow it to control our behaviour and makes us be the bigger person than who we are in real life.
That’s why I feel being honest and transparent of what I do and how I do is the right thing. I can advise and share my words with many but if anyone finds them offensive, you can blame me all you want though I know at least I’m satisfied telling the truth.
If friendship was meant to be forever, why does it affect the business? Is it really because of the money? Or is it because of our ego to satisfy our dream in life? Our dream to be a leader of our own. Just so you know, my partner isn’t someone under me. I see him as an equal as much as I would see in other of my colleagues or people who work with me. :)
