Is Javascript a Website Designer Career Requirement?

They say times are changing. And it’s not only the fuel, even career requirements for website designers might see a different demand. Malaysia has an ample resource of Malaysia website designers ranging from students, hobbyists and companies. Lately I read an article titled;
How Good Are You at JavaScript and CSS? I’ve seen someone in UK mentioning this and they too said Javascript was one of the website designer’s requirement.

I’ve written on how to become a creative designer and was asked if drawing skills were a website designer’s requirements but it looks like times are changing. It’s as though Javascript is soon to become one of the requirements for a website designer.

Malaysia Web Accessibility Conference

Last week I attended the web accessibility conference organized by the National Council For the Blind Malaysia (NCBM). This was one conference I didn’t have to second think of attending. Simply because one of the invited speakers was from the World Wide Web Consortium; better known as W3C to us Malaysia web standardistas.

And her name was; Shawn Henry. She’s the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) Outreach Coordinator at W3C. Besides her, I would also like to acknowledge Silatul Rahim from the Malaysian Association of the Blind (MAB). He demonstrated how blind users use a screen reader and…he is blind as well.

Photoshop Experiment Inspired by Heroes TV Series

This was a photo originally shot with my Apple iPhone when I was out for lunch yesterday. It was basically taken inside a pretty dark toilet in a Chinese corner shop. Something about the fan with light coming into dark toilet seemed interesting. And obviously, I had already done what I had to do in the toilet-la. Eesh!

original iPhone image

The image inspired me to open up Photoshop and do a little magic. So after a little bit of Photoshop filters and some thoughts (not the toilet), I ended up with a comic-styled image in the end.

Space Invaders T-shirt for Sale

space invadersDo you remember playing the 2D game; Space Invaders? It was a hell of an addictive game although it was simple. As a regular computer gamer, I decided to pay tribute to it by coming out with a t-shirt.

The t-shirt is a mixed language of the old and new. The old being lead by the Space Invaders and the new as it spells the word; leet. In Leetspeak (as gamers call it), 1337 is referenced as leet or in English; elite. It’s a term we deem great gamers for their level of gaming skill or performance.

Maybank2u myzone Web Design Finalists

It was months ago Maybank2u conducted their first ever web design contest. The web design contest was aimed at its current savings account holders. It was started mainly to generate the awareness of its new Malaysia teen financial banking portal; myzone.

At the time, I thought why not join the web design contest since I’ve not participated in any. Plus, there was a cool new computer to be won in this contest. However, the main prize soon wasn’t my main goal after I managed enough funds to build my new rig. Nonetheless, like any website design project I undertake I gave it my full attention and commitment.

Is Drawing a Web Designer Requirement?

DunnoI realized I’ve been so overthrown discussing about my Apple iPhone in Malaysia I’ve nearly forgotten what this blog was about. Therefore, I apologize for the long hiatus and temporary replacement in website design content by the Apple iPhone.

Let’s start over by letting me share with you a fellow friend of mine who wants to be a web designer. I get a number of questions by students to undergraduates asking what are the requirements of a web designer in Malaysia. He posed the question to me; is the ability to draw a requirement as a web designer?

Operafest Children's Choir

Just when you think that some kids are supporters of evil, shrieking around in their underwear, thesse kids in Operafest are a sight that dazzles you. If you’ve not heard of them, it’s nothing surprising because they’ve never gotten enough publicity by the government and their presence was spread online enough.

Anyway, can you believe that these children are the second best children’s choir in the world. I’m not kidding. The choir group ahead of them (though hopefully not for long) is the Vienna Boys Choir.

I don’t know about you, but missing such existence of young high achievers was embarassing even when I found out.
