All You Need Is A Few Good Posts

blog cardIf there’s one thing the Apple iPhone blogging series taught me, it’s all you need is a few good posts to generate traffic and earn a small profit from Adsense. I’m not saying it is easy to earn money online but all you need is a few good blog posts to start earning some money.

In addition, a few shouldn’t be interpreted as 2-3 posts but 5-7 posts. A good handful of blog posts is equivalent to 10-20 posts of half-baked content you may have written in a rush. As all bloggers would know, content still remains king.

The Easiest Way to Generate Blog Traffic

try this outThe easiest always goes unnoticed as many bloggers think to generate traffic is rocket science. If it’s not science, it’s some mathematical equation they blame the ‘big daddy’ for coming up with it. Well, the easiest way to generate blog traffic is through comments.

When was the last time you ever left a comment on a person’s blog? When did you last comment on a person’s blog not in your RSS feed or Blogroll? Again, the easiest way to generate blog traffic is by commenting on a new person’s blog. It doesn’t mean it has to be a new blogger but a blogger whom you have not left a comment before.

WordPress Blog Hacking Prevention

wordpress security lockAre you running a WordPress blog on your website space? If Yes, better be careful as it may be opened to hackers. However, there are some methods of prevention shared by fellow blogger; AshChuan. Her blog was recently hacked into on January 24 and luckily no data was loss.

She wrote in another post later of tips she found from Matt Cutts (Google employee) to your protect WordPress blog. And I seriously never noticed how much WordPress may be lacking in security.

Blogger Job Openings in Malaysia

guy with laptopAs usual, many in the West are now doing something us Malaysians fail to show value. One magazine thinks bloggers will be the force which could turnover the Malaysia elections. But I’m not interested in this political stuff right now. I’m more concerned if bloggers will have a job space in future.

I’m more interested to observe when our job classifieds will list; Blogger Wanted. There are a few in Malaysia who are currently hiring bloggers to blog for them. And clients I’m working with repeatedly ask, “who will be responsible to blog?”. While I would always say, “You will need to appoint someone in the company” I believe we have a qualified amount of people in Malaysia.

I'm Not A Writer, I'm A Blogger

writingAnd you’d think; they are the same. Well, I think they are different. Unlike how Malaysians still believe graphic designers are website designers. Writers can write (obviously) but bloggers can’t write…like writers. Bloggers are the ‘freedom’ writers.

We have no limits or principles to follow when writing. In other words, bloggers can ignore the vocabulary and grammar if they so wish. Writers can’t help but require the perfection to their sentences or paragraphs. If the spelling is wrong, they have to edit it. If the grammar sounds horrible, they have to amend it.

Write More Than You Can Publish

stack of filesI’m kind of contradicting myself as I write this article. Simple explanation, this is going against an earlier article I wrote called; Delete Blog Drafts Older Than a Month. I wrote it because I had a number of posts in queue. They were structured points of the article I wanted to complete. So, I guess it’s not counted.

Back to the topic, writing (complete articles) more than you can publish on you blog is part of a blogging strategy. Obviously this lessens the element of surprise but having a queue of articles at your fingers is a large advantage. Think about it this way, before writers block kicks in…kick it first.

Do Malaysia Bloggers Take Day Offs?

blogger holidayI’ve been experiencing nostalgic blogging moments the past couple of days. Plus, I’m half awake from a nap I took earlier. Due to the feeling of tiredness after waking up, the question popped into my head; do Malaysia bloggers take day offs or leaves?

Blogger burnout is easily experienced by any bloggers. Though it can drive you into an obsessive compulsive state (scary right?), I’ve mentioned before blogger burnout can be a good thing. And don’t worry about not blogging for 1-3 ‘working’ days.

Does The Time You Publish Your Blog Matter?

statistics chartI started pondering over the question this morning. And I have to admit, with a refreshed state of mind I tend to think better. It occurred to me one of the things I consider whenever publishing to my blog is; the time. We are all ‘kiasu’ at some point by nature. So I keep thinking by publishing at the right time, I’ll generate the best of my traffic.

Therefore, I’m going to start tracking if the time really does matter when you publish. Then I’ll be able to say; the myth of time does matter when you publish is false! Not to mention, it’ll make me feel good and less troubled having to publish on the exact time continuously. We are humans for crying out loud.

Nuffnang Glitterati Exclusive or Not Program

nuffnang gliterratiIn the beginning of this month, Malaysia’s Advertlets online advertising company got themselves in a small mess. Their domain name (Advertlets.com) expired and wasn’t renewed causing massive chaos and retribution in the Malaysia blogosphere. As they struggled to recover, Nuffnang Malaysia rolled out an exclusive advertising program; Nuffnang Glitterati.

In short, Nuffnang publishers are given the opportunity to earn more and reap better benefits by joining this program. However, you may only qualify for the program if you publish only Nuffnang advertisements on your blog. When I read this, I pondered if this program really was about exclusivity or monopoly…or something else.

Professional WordPress Themes Are Never Free

Updated: February 4, 2008

It seems not all buyers are too happy with the development of this wordpress theme package.

revolution wordpress themeAnd I have Brian Gardner to prove for it. When I first installed WordPress, the Kubrick theme didn’t cut it for me so I ended up using the Simpla WordPress theme first. Then after that, I noticed it wasn’t enough. Hence, I landed up with the Dropshadow WordPress theme when I first stumbled onto Brian Gardner.

However, even with Dropshadow I still wasn’t satisfied. Then I found something which reminded me of Khoi Vinh’s Subtraction. Brian Gardner created a WordPress theme called Whitespace. This theme reminded me of Subtraction due to its base colors of black and white, not so much the layout. Being a fan of Subtraction, I knew Whitespace was the one I was looking for. But right now, I’m thinking otherwise since my commenters have pointed out its critical weaknesses.
