PacMee Malaysia is A Twitter Replica

pacmee versus twitterI never knew what Pacmee albeit the Nuffnang advertisement which was running on this weblog a couple of weeks back. It was until I saw it in action at Timothy Tiah’s blog yesterday then I realized the fact.

It is just like…Twitter.com!

Being a website designer, I live around the web and stumble more around the web without the use of StumbleUpon. In simple words, I surf the Internet at least 10-12 hours daily. I’ve several things to do online from writing in this blog to reading the multiple RSS feeds of different genres.

But this isn’t about me. It’s about a service which has replicated another existing service with I would dare say, the same look! Not design but look.

Personal Blogs Have Become Less Personal

personal blog burdenThough more and more people are starting a blog of their own they are finding it more difficult to be more personal with their audience. Personal blogs used to be about the daily life of a person from being stuck in college classes, what did they eat at lunch to the quirky adventures of them in the toilet.

Yes, back in the days (I said it) a personal blog was all about the author, their life and their friends. However, as each day of the week starts to pass more and more bloggers have become…responsible bloggers. There are few to none which speak about their misadventures nowadays and are more reserved is how I’d put it.

Hairspray movie posterForget about High School Musical 2. Skip over the wild retro era of Grease and there you’ll land up in, Baltimore. In the seeming peaceful town of Maryland, you will meet the main character Tracy Turnblad (Nikki Blonsky).

The story is about how Tracy chases her dream of being a singing and dancing performer on the most watched TV programme; Corny Collins (James Marsden) Show. In the midst of it, you’ll find the usual story of love, frustration, disappointment, racism and a happy ending. What do you expect from a show set back in the 60s.

Compliant Blog Theme Requirements

XHTML buttonIt’s understandable not everyone knows the technical jargon XHTML. You may have heard of HTML, or maybe not. Sorry to say, this blog entry isn’t for the non-tech-savvy blog reader because I’m going to discuss about XHTML/CSS and its requirements for a blog theme.

As you know, there are now more and more emerging blog designers. Some who are Malaysia web designers making their way into blog design as well. It may be harsh to state this but I personally feel some blog designers or blog design companies are not meeting the requirements of a blog theme.

Whitespace WordPress Theme in Pink

The response to this new blog theme was really mixed. Some liked how the new wordpress theme still maintained it’s clean layout while some found it too plain. To be honest, I was captured by the first time I saw the Whitespace wordpress theme because of its simplicity.

To those who know me and my web design style, I’d prefer things simple any day. After all, Albert Einstein once said…

Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not one bit simpler.

New Websites Made Simple Blog Design Layout

Old Websites Made Simple layoutFirst of all, thank you to everyone of before and now who have supported my Websites Made Simple blog ever since it started back in 2003. It’s been a solid 4 years of blogging for me and I never expected it to be that long.

For those who know, this blog was always a personal space for me to share my opinions. However, time passed and I began to realize my love for Malaysia web design and development was more of my passion. Hence, the change of focus and soon enough I was writing more and more articles about web design and development for the Malaysia scene.

Why Your Email Campaigns are in Junk Mail?

Junk mailRecently, a friend of mine shared the success rate of printed junk mail which lands in your resident mailbox is only 0.1%. It’s an awfully low rate if you ask me. If you sent out 1,000,000 resident junk mail the probability of you sealing a deal is only, 1000. Not to mention the habitat of Sumatran rhinos Honda and Nuffnang are trying hard to help rebuild.

Big horny animals aside (pun intended), this offline junk mail is online widely known as email spam. As countries like US and Australia too have instilled their CAN-SPAM act, Malaysia as usual is frolicking behind and many businesses are wasting their time spamming ‘customers’. While their outgoing number is very much higher than 1,000,000 their closing is less than 0.1%. Reason is simple, the email are ending up in the junk mail.

When Your Website Structure (Information Architecture) is Flawed?

Sitemap flawedPart of any website strategy is to plan your web site architecture also known as website information architecture. In short, the information architecture is a blueprint of your information or a website sitemap.

It’s always easy hearing about it and this is deemed one of the easiest because it’s just organization of information in your website itself. However, I have found many who are ignorant of organizing their content in a manner only made sense to them and not the user.

RM2998 to Own Apple iPhone in Malaysia

Apple iPhone priceA fellow commenter (Global) has recently shared with me there’s a company in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia reselling the unlock versions of the Apple iPhone. They are sourcing the Apple iPhone units direct from the USA and utilizing the iphonesimfree software (IPFS) to unlock the devices before shipping them to Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Middle East, and Europe.

Woohoo! Sounds great doesn’t it? Well, to be one of the minority of Apple iPhone users in Malaysia you will need to burn RM2998 or RM3680 for the device. Global has also informed he did place an order and hasn’t found a problem using Maxis, DiGi or Celcom. However, there are a few things you will want to know.

Maybank2u myzone Removes Web Design Contest Terms and Conditions

maybank2u myzone web design teaserPreviously on March 19, 2007 I shared the news on how Maybank2u is organizing a web design contest for its new myzone website. Then recently, the Surf! magazine also had a maybank2u website review which reminded me I still had to come up with something for the maybank2u myzone contest.

I decided to start on my maybank2u myzone web design entry later because entries were accepted from 12 midnight on 16 March 2007 and ends at 12 midnight on 15 September 2007. During the 6 months, I would have definetely come up with something but I decided to sleep on it and let it flow in.
