Massive Online Newspapers Review

During the celebration of The Star’s 10th Anniversary, they did it with technological grace by launching a new look for their website; TheStar.com.my Little did they know the crowd back in 2005 was already very demanding especially those who read online content.

Okie, maybe I’m exaggerating the last sentence since not many in Malaysia actually care about usability and accessibility half the time. However, I’ve been specially requested to review few other online newspapers in follow up of my own; The Star Online.

In this review, I’ve covered Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Daily Telegraph, The Times UK, Washington Post, Guardian Unlimited, and Independent.

Website Designers Grid System

I was rather curious to learn more from what I’ve been hearing the need to use grid systems when designing layouts. After a little Googling, I managed to find the post that I think started it all.

Mark Boulton from the UK was describing in a 5-part series; Five simple steps to designing grid systems. If you plan to read his article, just be prepared for quite a lot of absorption regarding grids as a graphic designers friend.

Would You Prefer a Tissue or Handkerchief?

Bear with me as this metaphor hit me in the washroom. So you have been warned.

I was thinking how a tissue and handkerchief could be related to us and customer relationship management. Every one would love to have repeated clients or clients helping refer other friends of theirs to us. So what we’re going to do now is imagine ourselves as a tissue or a handkerchief (hanky).

Gemstone Home Improvements Website Review

Scenic beauty and ambience is what I feel when browsing through United Kingdom’s Gemstone Home Improvements. It’s blood colored background with the essence of abstract expression along with it’s wood type surface of the interface gives the website a sense of satisfaction.

Just what the interior designer might have ordered in appreciation of his/her eye for artistry in solid objects.

Creative Commons Malaysia Website Review

The Malaysian version of Creative Commons (CC) have been the talk since sometime last year. It was a sheer surprise to have the non-governing organization enter our shores and help budding talents protect their work whilst allowing them to share it online. Placing any work online has risk of plagiarism or piracy but CC tries to lessen these things.

What is Creative Commons about?

How To Choose a Website Designer

I actually wanted to post this earlier but due to the workload just after the Chinese New Year, I’ve been updating the blog slower. As you know, profit or revenue generated from this blog is used to maintain this space and its goal driven purpose to all Malaysians and anyone else who’d like to learn more about the website industry in Malaysia.

This post will be using a few things said by Yaro Starak of Entrepreneurs-Journey because he touched really a lot of solid points in his podcast of finding a website designer in conjunction with his facelift of his blog. I’ll add some at the end of the post which I might see viable here.

Rice Raiser Canadian Fundraiser Website

Brought to life by estaliblished Canadian firm Bauhouse, the Rice Raiser website is a Canadian drive of helping those in need of help locally and internationally.

Out of all the Non-Government Organization (NGO) websites I’ve seen online, I think this will be one of the Top 10 now. The website design is done in a very subtle yet meaningful way that communicates a simple message of helping children feed to continue living.

Solution for Empty Designer Minds

This tool is not a generator of finished ideas – it is a “thought-starter.”

I came across a website that offered quite a unique solution to anyone creative with a blockage for ideas. As the creative director of MouseBrains said, the phrases generated from the form you fill up isn’t finished ideas.

Building Websites with an Apple Macintosh

Ha! Thought I was going to teach you Macromedia Dreamweaver using an Apple Macintosh, huh? Well, that will happen as soon as I get enough funding for either a MacBook Pro or an iBook 14″ at least.

I was visiting Josh Lockhart’s website after being redirected from CSSImport. I noticed that they catered to something called RapidWeaver themes. I’ve heard of Dreamweaver but not RapidWeaver so naturally I had to find what was this all about.
