Malaysia Website Industry Quick Tips

Once upon a forum thread over at Low Yat forums, we were discussing all about the business of websites in Malaysia. There were very informative points which I had tried to summarize into a mini Q & A here.

It might not be much but I hope it helps give an idea of what the industry is like here and probably help explain to others why some things are important or should be done.

9rules Network Giving Back to 9charities

The talents of 9rules Network are going to be joining forces, skills, mind and being (in some way) to help out 9 charity organization websites each year. The best part of this whole thing is that these organizations are going to get a new makeover or new website completely FREE.

Other than a great makeover, the 9rules clan are going to host the 9 charities for free too. And what better name to call this project in consistency with the 9rules identity but 9charities.

If you think the free website and hosting is just the great things coming from them, you are so wrong and you’d need to read more about the 9rules project.

Design Blogs For Your Portfolio

I was discussing about a new official website with a friend of mine and when I shortlisted some of the works I’m planning to put in the portfolio, we started a talk about the credibility of including works such as blog designs into the portfolio.

He said that having too many weblog designs as part of the portfolio might have potential customers question our status in this business. I totally understand his point of view especially when the customers don’t understand the whole weblog thing happening in Malaysia whether social, political or business wise.

Flash Movies in Danger due to MS Update

I don’t want to be caught in a controversial act so I’m going to spell MS once and it’s not going to be in its actual name so you’ve got to figure it out yourself; M1CR0$0F7 (MS). That’s right, I just received a public service message from Kevin Airgid about the peril about to befall Flash interactive movies.

It’s nothing of a huge issue but it will cause some annoyances and setbacks to the lovable interactive Flash movies you’ve been creating or playing.

Adsense Optimization from Mike Gutner

In my email today of the Adsense newsletter edition, they had a short interview with their optimization specialist (sounds cool, no?) Mike Gutner. So what does Mike do?

I work on AdSense optimization. We run tests to identify the best ways in which AdSense publishers can make the most of their Google ads.

No wonder everyone feels like working for Google. Not only do you have cool titles but you’ve got cool stuff to do in the office. I wonder if there’s anyone wearing fluffy slippers around the office. But let’s talk about Mike’s explaination of some ad placements.
