How Do You Select an Internet Broadband Provider?

picture of lady on sofaOver a mamak session, I was discussing with a couple of friends about the recent troubled Internet connection I’ve been experiencing. As usual, similar complaints started coming out and all directed to only 1 provider. Needless to say, we all know who since they monopolize the market. LOL!

Despite our laughter, relating our own customer service cases and the useless results which spawned from it we started debating over what’s more important for an Internet provider in Malaysia. Was it the speed of the Internet connection packages? Was it the price with the fuel hike now and soon? Or, was it efficient and knowledgeable customer service support?

Our debate wouldn’t have ended if one of our girl friends didn’t interrupt us with another topic. End of the day, there wasn’t really a conclusion. However, my observation was more of us wouldn’t mind paying a little more for a speedier and stabler Internet connection. But I’m not sure it’s not the case with everyone.

So I’ve installed the WordPress poll plugin to conclude the debate; what’s important when it comes to broadband? Plus, it’ll help me and my friends from starting this topic over and over again – hopefully. So cast your vote.

Thanks in advance for taking the poll. You’ve helped me save RM 2.00 on an additional teh-o-ais limau. :D

  1. If I’d have to choose one – customer service, definitely. Because that’s the one thing that you look at to solve all the other problems! Everybody knows TM’s legendary customer service – from long wait times to annoying scripted questions that don’t solve any problems, to absolute cluelessness and unprofessionalism on their technicians.

This dude once came to my house to diagnose an issue which I insisted was on their side, fumbled around with the settings, then actually borrowed my phone to ask for instructions from his senior – and followed it up to call his gf on top of that!!! Worse still, after sometime of not getting anywhere with the connection, I received an SMS on the phone from his gf! “cepat lah bang…”

  2. Maxis wireless broadband is great if you are in the HSDPA region. The only downturn, slow to no connection at all during rain.

We all want the ideal provider. :P

Should’ve replied the SMS dude. LOL! Though I still can’t believe he used it to call his GF. Gosh! Did he even ask permission to do so?

What happens if the speed led to the price which is a lil expensive?

Funnily, all the HSPDA I’ve ever heard of is the mobile phones with HSPDA compatibility. The only mobile connection I hear the the telcos bragging about is 3G. So correct me if I’m wrong if they’re the same. *confused*

I can imagine the lack of choices when one has better reach. However, I believe that’ll change when WiMAX rolls out. So keep tabs on it. ;)

  5. I think speed & reliability. A co need not be no. 1 in customer service, but if these 2 are met, usually the customer service is above average one also – as its the company’s value system.

  6. I’d say that’s threading on a thin line between speed and price. With great speed and reliability, comes an equal price to sustain the system. I believe if the speed was 1Mbps even but reliable and affordable, there should be a better customer service.

Not bimbos who repeat the same script resulting in screaming customers later. LOL!

We’re all victims of capitalization. No worries. Hopefully if Wimax turns out affordable, we can jump over the politics. :P
