Word Spelling Affects Search Engine Optimization

alphabet blocksIn the US, they pronounce flour as “fla-ar” but in the UK, they call it “flower”. When it comes to the spelling, there is a close difference between each written language. What’s bad especially is how most software and application set the default language as US.

If you were to type analyze, it is correct based on the US syllabus. However, our English syllabus in Malaysia follows UK, we should be spelling it analyse. Right now as I’m continuing to type, Mozilla Firefox is saying analyse is wrong. When in fact, it is correct if I were to practice the correct spelling I’ve learnt in school.

The Real Cost of Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Every client I meet now will ask, “Can you make my website #1 on Google?”. Or they will request, “I’d like my website to be #1 when customers search [keyword]”. Whenever I hear all this, is it the rage? Or is it the real demand for a honest and reliable SEO provider?

As much as I’d like to say; “Yes, we will do our best to position you there”, I’ll be lying if the underlying problem isn’t getting there but can they afford to pay the cost for a search engine optimization (SEO) service. Have you ever wondered what is the real cost behind such a service?

Discover Backlinks You Never Knew using Google

One of the RSS feeds I subscribe to is SEOposition and today I learned something new. It was a short entry about how you know you can see how many backlinks using Google. If you never knew, you can do it by typing this in the Google search bar.

link:websitename.com

According to Brian from SEOposition, he says this only gives a partial list of URLs linking to your site and is by no means a comprehensive look at your total number of backlinks. However, in his article View Google Backlinks in Google he’s shared another method which he feels Google may have accidentally allowed users to use.

Prepare your Web Copywriting before Web Design

Alright, so now you know the website goals you would like to achieve with your website – time to move on. But what should be the next step? Do you tell the web designer to get started on the drawing board or do you tell the web developer to quickly start so you can have the website up by tomorrow?

Well, you don’t do either of the above. I believe the next step should be to prepare the website copy if you haven’t gotten it ready. Without knowing what content will be used on the website, it is actually difficult for the web designer to start conjuring a website layout which is right for you. Not to mention you will risk the website flow later.

What You Didn't Know About SPAM?

Everyone has heard and know what SPAM is. In generic terminology, SPAM is junk email. However, in true fact SPAM actually stands for; nothing. Odd? Surprising? Food?

The short history of SPAM is the term was in all probability derived from a Monty Python Flying Circus comedy sketch in which the participants incessantly repeated the word “spam” ad nauseam. Thus born between the word spam and this type of e-mail—since both were seemingly limitless, unstoppable and, above all else, extremely annoying.

10 Impractical Website Requests You Should Know

You’re sitting in the cafe sipping your latte when opposite you, your potential client says, “Hey, I was thinking why not we put a fast paced animated introduction on my website with an upbeat techno type music?” By the time you had heard the part of the techno type music, you would have either burnt your tongue or choked on steaming latte in your throat.

TMNet Could Be Losing 80% of Business

I’m currently at the One Utama, Starbucks Coffee outlet with my lil ol white Apple Macbook. While waiting for my girlfriend, I expected to logon to the free wireless normally provided by Timezone. It was after buying a drink, finding a comfy one seater sofa and sipping on their signature hot chocolate and trying to connect to the Wi-Fi did I notice there wasn’t Time available here. Bummer!

I had 2 options which was to either sign up an Airzed account or a TMNet Hotspot account. Both are premium services and I’ve never really believed in signing up for anyone of it. My reasoning is if you’re a customer, you’re technically ‘paying’ for the usage of their Wi-Fi. Nonetheless I have around 1 hour to kill so I decided to might as well register with one.

Monitor Website Statistics with Google Analytics

Once upon a time when Google was still offering GMail accounts via invites, they introduced their website statistics application called Google Analytics. If you hadn’t known, this was only after Google purchased the web analytics firm; Urchin. The analytics application was on an invite basis as well and I was one of the lucky ones to get it early.

Ever since I started using Google Analytics to monitor few websites and customer projects, I’ve totally fallen in love with it. The application is not only powerful but it allows me (as a web designer) to track important data. That said, if you only want to get a kick out of the number of daily visitors to your website then Google Analytics will give you a boot later.
