What You Didn't Know About SPAM?

Everyone has heard and know what SPAM is. In generic terminology, SPAM is junk email. However, in true fact SPAM actually stands for; nothing. Odd? Surprising? Food?

The short history of SPAM is the term was in all probability derived from a Monty Python Flying Circus comedy sketch in which the participants incessantly repeated the word “spam” ad nauseam. Thus born between the word spam and this type of e-mail—since both were seemingly limitless, unstoppable and, above all else, extremely annoying.

But through some Google search online, I found something called; Stop Pornography and Abusive Marketing Act, and would say it does relate closest to the definition of SPAM.

In countries like USA and Australia, they have implemented legal SPAM acts to help curb the problem of unsolicited, unwanted, irrelevant, or inappropriate messages, especially commercial advertising emails sent in mass quantities.

How does email SPAM affect the Internet in general?

  • Disrupts email delivery
  • Clogs up computer systems
  • Reduces productivity
  • Wastes time
  • Irritates users
  • Increase crimes in phishing and scamming
  • Aids the spread computer viruses or malware

The above list may just be a small number experienced by different Internet users upon receiving SPAM. Thankfully, in curbing the problems above many email providers are employing ultimate SPAM busters. One of the greater SPAM busters I’ve seen and used today is through Google’s Gmail itself.

Although Malaysia, Singapore and most Asian countries may have not implemented a legal SPAM act yet. You can start doing your part in order to improve your Internet experience today. If you’re a business owner, marketing manager or freelancer all you need to do is follow 3 easy steps to help stop email spam.

Attain the email recipient’s consent
Return the power to select and make a decision to the customer!

Present your identity
Insert accurate information about the person or organisation that authorised the sending of the message. This is the credibility of the email and helps inform readers where it originated from.

Employ an easy unsubscribe mechanism
And I’m not talking about one of those SMS ones where they only ask you once if you’d like to unsubscribe then later you won’t see the option your whole life. I’m stuck in one of it at the moment. Therefore, always have an easy unsubscribe method placed in your emails or prominently on your website for recipients to unsubscribe.

So let’s all help make world peace the Internet a better place.
