Should Bloggers have Business Cards?

During the Malaysia Bloggers Buff 2007, I noticed there were many bloggers exchanging their business cards. Besides that you should be interested in knowing more about responsible blogging – forum conducted during the event. Of course, the businesses in the cards were of their full-time job.

However, has it ever occurred to you what if a full-time blogger gave out a business card with just his blog name, blog description, his name and the blog address? This was just a wild idea I was thinking about while I saw many bloggers sharing their business cards.

How to Measure Customer Appreciation and Value?

Before I started the company Simpleet Solutions with my partner, I was but only a freelance web designer. As a freelancer, the goal of your career was to get more jobs, make more money and spend it as you wish. Oh, I almost forgot to add – make a name for yourself.

While in freelance the initial idea was that, many do not take into consideration the customer appreciation and value of their work. In layman terms, did you care if the customer was happy with your work or do you think the customer would recommend you to someone they know?

Few days ago I was over at a Joy’s (not real name) place to discuss a web design project her friend; Joyce (not real too) wanted to talk me about. Joyce came down all the way from the United States not just to discuss the project but to holiday here in Malaysia with Joy who’s local.

While we were sitting down discussing it’s natural to use the Internet because in web design, the client will normally have reference websites to show what they are trying to accomplish. As we continued discussing to pass the time and allow the websites to load..

Stop Being Cheated by Third-Party Companies

A dear friend of mine; Muid Latif, related his horrible recent experience dealing with a third-party for a web project they are working on. In the Malaysia web design and development industry, filled with freelancers derived from students to working professionals there are third-parties whom hire them. Some of these third-parties have no sense of professionalism and worst of all, they have no respect for you.

Muid’s experience in summary is he was given the commission to design a website template for Dewan Bahasa Pustaka by a third-party. A commission is not a recognition but merely an opportunity to be involved in something larger than what you might have expected. In Muid’s case here, I would say he was rather badly taken advantage of.

How Much to Pay for a WordPress Theme?

This topic is not old nor new in this industry of web design with its sister industry; blog design. That is why while part of the blogosphere was discussing; How much would you for a wordpress theme? at WPDesigner.com, it didn’t drove me into much of a discussion.

The debate of cost is as subjective as a design itself. Many people made of designers, consumers, marketers, managers and directors have their own take of this topic. This is one of the reasons I don’t believe in having a standard cost to my work. The only thing I truly believe is a minimum cost when I’m hired to do a project.

Good Help is Hard To Find

Last week, I did a presentation of what Simpleet Solutions had to offer clients. I talked about the processes and strategy we take to build them a website with a unique web design and solid web development foundation that wouldn’t only work now but is also expandable in the future.

Ever since I started Simpleet Solutions and presented to the medium sized audience, we’ve had inquiries pouring in about our services and rates. It’s good to see a new business grow exponentially with the principles of web standards especially in Malaysia. But like simple marketing, you need to supply enough to the demand.

Power of Corporate Blogging

My absence definitely was felt through the week and I apologize for that. The recent week from Wednesday to Sunday I’ve been camping at Midvalley Megamall from 10am to 10pm onwards. I was helping out with the Visit Malaysia Cyber Campaign event. So let’s try to get back on track here.

After this morning’s business network meeting, I spoke with a couple of other business professionals regarding one of their friend’s website project. She told me how her friend was using a Blogger account to post only event updates for their club.

Free – Starter – Premium Account

I was reading up over at Blogging Pro; Gravator 2.0 Adding Paid Premium and it occurred to me what David said was true. Almost every online service that was or great now is charging for every nickel and dime. In other words, even a simple avatar plugin is now starting to charge a minimum amount to its service.

Like David said, USD10 per year might not be much to pay for the service but it’s small little amounts that accumulate and soon you’ll discover spending more in the long run.
