Why You Need a Creative Brief?

A creative brief is really a document about the design requirements of a project. Sometimes the creative brief might be contained in a project brief which would cover the planning, timeline, development and design details of a project. This brief is to help guide you in producing the requests of a client.

Being a website designer, the creative brief is one of the important properties you should build with your client. Sometimes the creative brief is gathered through the discussion when you ask clients what’s the look and feel they’re going for or what colours they would want to use in ther website.

If you don’t have a creative brief, bad things happen in a project.

Designing Newsletters

As much as some might come to believe that newsletters will be extinct in the future, I’ve a feeling it won’t because it’s been proven so far to be one of the best e-marketing tools around. Of course, this isn’t comparing to marketing stategies like playing a game and the highest score wins.

Newsletter trends today are not the same anymore. If you don’t believe me, then take a gander of this upcoming screenshot and tell me what is wrong with it?

CSS Menu Things You Must Remember

Before this I went on about how making a CSS menu can be very tricky if we didn’t pay enough attention to the arrangement of the ULs and LIs. I also provided some pointers and a kind of guide for those who’re planning to use the dropdown menu tutorials I provided.

My client of the dropdown menu inspired me to write about some of things you must remember when you’re preparing a CSS menu.

HTML and CSS List Levels

I’m closing one of my xHTML/CSS projects soon. During the project, I needed to implement a dropdown menu and I don’t really use DHTML menus. I find that CSS with a touch of Javascript to be more manageable.

So the examples online that I hunted were from A List Apart (ALA), Nick Rigby (author of the dropdown article at ALA) and an all time CSS menu resource, Listamatic.

The tutorials were easy to understand but I faced a more general problem (that I’m embarassed of actually). I needed to understand the whole logical arrange of lists.

What is a Design Mockup?

The word mockup is uncommon to most Malaysians who half the time are selfishly doing their own thing at the top while the smarter ones try to learn about it. But to make the selfish even worst, they try to be smart and act as if they know what it is.

It’s lying, impolite, rude, and unprofessional. These people take advantage of it due to their higher level and power to hide a weakness. As much as I’d like to be talking about some of these Malaysian clients, let me clear the fog of the meaning; design mockup.

Setting a Quota

My abscence from 8th December until 18th December was because of my return to Melbourne for my convocation or graduation ceremony. Like my Dad said, “You’re now officially an unemployed person.” It’s quite funny really. But since I’m working on my own now, I suppose I’m trying to be an entrepreneur at the moment.

Before I left, I made sure to inform all my clients or their assistants that I will not be available during my overseas trip. I left with a huge relief because not having a mobile computer allowed me to pass the excuse that I couldn’t bring my work with me. After packing, I made a list of projects I was managing and I think it might be a little too many.

The Aims and Goal of a Project

Every time before I start on a project, I’ve noticed that I need to help or remind clients about what their aim(s) and goal(s) are for their project. The only difference between the aim and goal is that one of it is the results they’d like achieved when the project is done.

If a client has got a ton of aims with many more ideas to strengthen the aim, it would still be a waste of time for you because you’ll be catering for something without thinking of a solution in achieving the goal.

The Website Experience

I’m still busy juggling projects but I thought that since everyone might be bored out of their mind waiting for something new, it’s best to release something even a bit less interesting to the Malaysian.

If you’ve noticed, the greater products online have been gradually catering to the experience needed by users of the website. It’s slowly pushing aside the importance of having flashy object or super high-tech backend powered into it.

Send Clients to The Firing Squad

Who says you can’t tie your client to a wooden worn out pole blindfolded and fire them? The only reason you can’t do this most of the time is due to the wrong practice and corrupt business world we live in.

There are too many designers who give in too easily to clients and there are designers who offer lower prices for sh*tty quality though the client some times is also too blur sighted to notice it.

See, I’m firing clients right now but it’s all about managing complications.

Apologize to Clients

Have you ever made yourself shrink into a corner and accidentally tick off one of your clients? Are you the good samaritan who apologizes and keep on working? Or are you the person who likes to worry about leaving a bad mark so you try to hurry and get the project done?

Well, I wouldn’t mind apologizing or forgiving because we all make mistakes in our life. If we don’t make any, then how do we learn efficiently?
