My abscence from 8th December until 18th December was because of my return to Melbourne for my convocation or graduation ceremony. Like my Dad said, “You’re now officially an unemployed person.” It’s quite funny really. But since I’m working on my own now, I suppose I’m trying to be an entrepreneur at the moment.
Before I left, I made sure to inform all my clients or their assistants that I will not be available during my overseas trip. I left with a huge relief because not having a mobile computer allowed me to pass the excuse that I couldn’t bring my work with me. After packing, I made a list of projects I was managing and I think it might be a little too many.
However, since I’ve already agreed to these projects and had to make promises of dates of accomplishments, I’ve no choice but to juggle these projects.
Right now, I’ve about 2 proposals to get done, 2 projects that are on-going (one with a client that is trying to be ‘smart’), and another project that’s being closed. When I actually counted the number of things to be done by myself alone at this stage, I’m really feeling the weight all the way till New Years.
One of the sure ways of handling this is to have outsource help or hire a new member or two into the team so that juggling will be more manageable. But for the time being, I feel that the best option I’ll be taking next year is to limit myself to a quota every month.
Instead of biting more than I can chew, I’ll limit myself to probably 3 small to medium size projects and 1 large project a month. In quantity it might still sound quite a load, but there’s a lot of difference between an understanding client and a client trying to get smart with you.
For the extra project requests, you could either introduce other potential companions or politely explain to your client and listen on the action they might need.
Besides, setting a quota for the number of projects you feel you could manage a month would allow you to be healthier and probably live longer in your years. :)
It’s good to be back and I just tossed the rolled up degree into my drawer. So it’s back to work. Have a good one everyone.
