The Website Experience

I’m still busy juggling projects but I thought that since everyone might be bored out of their mind waiting for something new, it’s best to release something even a bit less interesting to the Malaysian.

If you’ve noticed, the greater products online have been gradually catering to the experience needed by users of the website. It’s slowly pushing aside the importance of having flashy object or super high-tech backend powered into it.

I just finished scanning through Keith Robinson‘s article posted on A List Apart titled, Power to The People.

The article was all about how the most successful services nowadays aren’t too focused on what technology to use but the experience required to supply the users and visitors to the website.

Be it a normal website, a blog, an e-commerce website or a micro site, usability of the website is moving to the top of the pyramid in planning. Soon enough, it’s going to be one of the first things you’ll need to come up with in a website project before starting the design and development.

Like what Keith said, Amazon’s 1-click feature is a brilliant example of how a simple thing has been taken to fulfill one of the many needs in online shopping. It’s just taking the thought of when you’re walking with your mother in a grocery store or girlfriend in the mall, that all you need is to hit the ‘buy now’ button and be done with it.

The total experience of surfing a website is lifted when you’re providing the solutions for the needs of your visitors. Another example, I should actually have a subscribe or notify me of replies via email option below the comment box because I understand how some visitors would like to track and read what others might reply to their comment.

Lacking this feature is probably one of the reasons of the low community experience in my blog right now. Besides that not many Malaysians really understand the potential of a website anyway.

Have you implemented a better experience to your projects lately?

  1. I suppose participation would exist if there were a community. Or participation could take place through intended reasons. :P
