Project Petaling Street (PPS) as it’s known is the Malaysia blog ping aggregator. Malaysia bloggers ping the blog network to share their latest findings and it’s been around for a long time – more than 5 years. I’ve grown up with PPS as a local blogger and have once proposed a redesign back in 2005 – a long time ago.
Then my friend; Edrei, shared the news with me. PPS is now under new management. It didn’t come as a shock to me until he mentioned the increased number of advertisements now on the homepage. True enough, there are now 5 ads on the homepage.
Anyway, PPS is now under the management of MENJ and his organization. He’s recently shared what Malaysia bloggers could expect of the new PPS soon.

Improvements wise, it’s definitely better to read because white always makes a nice contrasting background. There’s going to be a featured pings area and whether or not it’s a premium space, I’m guessing Yes.
As you might notice, the new PPS seems more monetized and there’s large chunks of space between areas – a little too large for me. Well, I can understand the need to monetize in order to support the bills of PPS.
But then again, is it going to be about the money or having a place for local bloggers to be discovered in the Malaysia blogosphere?
What i’ve gather so far (from edrei as well; here), it seems it hasn’t been a friendly start.
anyway, i don’t like the direction it’s going…. althought it’s definitely a breath of fresh air from the stale PPS.
i’m glad that they’ve finally done something to revitalise it. hope that it will rival ping.sg :P

Well, it depends how elegantly it’s going to be monetized I suppose. We can only wait and see.
blogjunkie:
Indeed! I’d like to see how PPS would rival our closest neighbour and not just try to be another Digg.
Hi Danny, good to see you actually making a positive review on the new changes that I plan for PPS. Most of the speculation about the direction PPS is taking is mainly just that: speculation, and mostly in the negative. With regard to your question:
“But then again, is it going to be about the money or having a place for local bloggers to be discovered in the Malaysia blogosphere?”
Without revealing too much, I ask: why must it be limited to one or the other? Why can’t it be both?
– MENJ
MenJ, it can. Except by the looks of the design at the moment, it’s leaning more towards the money and not the content.
Right! PPS seems like a ad-oriental site. The content not jumping out instead, the whole other copies and ads standing out. Well, still a nice design, clean and space (breath) compare with the previous one.
