Malaysian Website Designers Soon Extinct

Every day I’ll run through the employment opportunities section of the papers to see the demand of designers or programmers in the market. I’ve noticed very few advertise these jobs in the printed media anymore. Most of these jobs are likely to be found on Jobstreet or probably the newer Jobs and More website.

While I was walking today, it came to my attention that most employers are requesting for graphic designer with skills of being able to create website or ‘web page designs’.

Why do corporate websites not have advertisements?

A group of us had a small get together and started discussing about the future of online advertising. It’s great how Google has monopolized the online market and considerably push the opportunities you could get from online advertising.

While discussing about the types of advertisers that now exist from the Adsense type model to the ones like Chitika, we also started debating and questioning each other why we think not all corporate websites have hosted advertisements on their websites.

After all, it would make a lot of extra income for them, right?

When a Designer is No Longer a Designer

My apologies for all these confusing titles. It’s the best description for something short and accurate and also non-cloned. Yeah, this another article that I’ve read somewhere and it’s to reach out to all Malaysian who’d like to be in the web development field.

I was just over at We Break Stuff (cool name) and finished reading one of the articles, Between information and design. It’s something for every arrogant. ignorant and annoying people who refuse to keep up with the web and listen to people who do.

A 'Standard' Website

Me and the members of Low Yat forums half the time finding members asking these very same questions,

“How much do you charge for a website?”

“What’s the current price to design (and develop) a website?”

Some of us have approached this question too many times. But is it really our fault that there is no standard website price? After all, what is a standard website and what does the standard package contain?

Web Designers and their Blogs

Fellow blogger and friend, Jonathan Ng of Beyond Simplicity (though might be switching to a simpler domain) has written a short review of Blogs Malaysia and started a rather interesting discussion in his entry, Web Designers and Blogs.

Firstly, thanks for promoting me and Stanch for the work done on the new metablog or blog network. I didn’t do much work since Stanch was in control of development. And it’s common that when you’re developing a website, you just can’t the sight of either border-ed DIVs or colored in a solid background. ;)

Anyway, the part that sparked interest in Jonathan’s topic was if ads and a web designer’s blog should gel together.

How Much Do You Pay?

I’m back from Genting and I’m now down from the hill along with an accompanied cold. The sneezing and leaking faucet are the worst things of a flu. Just hope the next thing that develops isn’t a cough.

Anyway, how much do you pay your referrals?

I’ve been rather ignorant ever since I’ve been back from Melbourne, believing that one of the strict principles I should start are to not pay cash for referrals. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I’m not paying them for their gratitude but I tried to believe there’s more ways of showing appreciation.
