Paint Chinese New Year 2007 Red and Gold

What a week it’s been. Three days ago it was Valentines Day and now it’s coming to Chinese New Year. The whole town is becoming even more red and everyone is now in a joyous mood for the holidays. The city is going to be a little more quiet and we’re going to be seeing more road mishaps of imbeciles. Oh, the joy!

I don’t know much about tradition but I believe the color red is auspicious because it represents the strength of fire and love. As for gold, needless to say that’s to tell the God of Wealth, “Hey, I’m over here praying for you so show me the money!”.

I’m officially taking a break from my web design work until 26 February 2007 before officially resuming business. It’s time to pocket the luck and blessings of our elders and seniors by accepting the red packets or better known as ‘ang pau’.

Hence, I just wanted to let everyone know I’m in a festive and holiday mood at the moment so blog entries might face a lag during this time. However, I’ll try my best to come up with a storm and continue posting as regularly as I can through this week.

And to start it off, let’s talk about some of the Chinese New Year e-greetings.

The most common method of e-greeting is a plain text email to friends. The next one is a cute e-card you could either create on your own to send via email or through other websites. Believe it or not there are people who don’t know what an e-card is so an e-card in full is an electronic greeting card. It’s really sending a digital image (here we call ‘card’) to your friends via email.

Other than an e-card, we have interactive cards as well. These are e-cards with animation, music or some other form of entertainment made for you to interact with your card. I’ve found simple ideas and a strong message to be the best for an e-card still.

While e-cards are becoming really traditional, I’ve not yet seen anyone taking advantage of the video media. Instead of animation, save time by using your web camera to record a video and forward it your family and friends to wish them the Chinese New Year. And you don’t even have to look for space to upload, just use YouTube or GoogleVideo.

So what other e-greetings have you received already?
