I Want to Start a Web Comic

Other than blogging about web design and development, I’m pretty hooked up on several web comics. As much as I used to love reading Spiderman, Superman, Fone Bone, Garfield and a whole lot of other offline comics, I’ve found several web comics that tickled and made me have anxiety attacks to what happens next.

And the thing about web comics is that it can be started by anyone. I know of an architect turned comic artist and their comic is really really doing well. How many of you haven’t heard or read Megatokyo before? You have no idea what are you seriously missing especially if you like reading romance comedy genres.

Web comics too requires a lot of work and dedication. Your commitment to the project is tested by the demands of your readers half the time. It kinda sounds like blogging. But the fun in the web comic is that you create the characters and can kill them whenever you please, sw33t (sweet).

I’m actually pondering of starting a web comic of my own. One of the things I never did well was drawing and the maintaining the consistency of drawing. Half the time the dog or character I might’ve drawn turns out to be a new one. It’s really frustrating erasing and drawing it again and again but I can never seem to get the same character. Thank God my signature isn’t like that.

Yeah, so the reason I’m thinking of a web comic is because one of the things I like to do (which you’ll not believe) is drawing. Drawing characters is one of the past time I love but I never did got to finishing the whole body and clothing.

One of the things I actually want to add to this blog is the web comic. The web comic will be about my life you could say. It can be about web design and development but represented in a more exaggerated scenario visually. I once drew a soldier shooting and bombing both the Microsoft and Adobe logos out of frustration with them.

So yeah, I’m planning to start something along those lines. Maybe I should get started with some characters and see how it goes from there. In the meantime, here are some web comics that I read:

And what do you think makes a successful web comic?

  1. Hey hey..glad to see the both of you here. :)

Hey Lily, who’s this Lee character you’re talking about? There wasn’t a URL on his name when you posted the comment.

One of the toughest things my lecturer once taught me is that even in comedy, what type of comedy will you be doing?

Then he told me about dark comedy and etc. I didn’t know there were that many.

  2. Lee’s my bf. ^_~ http://www.toonstudio.com.au

I agree comedy is hard. Couldn’t keep to the 15sec rule when I had to write for sitcoms. One liners or concise lines in comics are even harder. But i guess it depends on what your type of humour and wit is like and you’ll learn how to get it across.

The ideas for the webcomic is his. Haven’t got the details yet. ^_~

  3. Ahh, professional comic artist.

I don’t think I can really stick to a type of humor. Anyway, as they say you don’t try you won’t know. :)
