First impressions count..a lot. We know how true is this when grocery shopping or buying a random gift for someone whom we like but don’t know them well enough. I highly respect product packaging designers because they not only design for the product but the customer as well. They take into consideration the demand and behavior of the customer.
My friends, if you’re running an e-commerce store or even a small little bulk order in Low Yat forums you’d better have some packaging strategies for your products. This will not only help you bring more business but it gives your customers more confidence in buying from you again and even again.
Here are some of the strategies I’ve found effective and through the experience from my other half whom trades on Low Yat.
- Place larger items at the bottom of a package and the lighter ones above.
- Place a cardboard or wrap your items in bubble wrap when placing items into a box. You don’t want them accidentally damaging the product with their penknife.
- When you can’t buy a large bulk of bubble wrap, you could always shred newspaper and crumple them into the packaging.
- This isn’t compulsory but it’s great to know which part of the package should be faced up or opened. It’s better to see your item from the cap then the bottom.
- If possible, print and paste the address of the sender on your package. This makes sure the writing on the letter is clear to Mr.Postman.
- When issuing an invoice or thank you letter, inserting it in an envelope with the customers name then placing it in your package is more professional.
- If you can’t afford boxes, save the ones you’ve gotten. But remember to cancel out or remove the previous details on it.
- One of the great things to have is a digital weighing machine (like the ones in post offices) because at least you’ll roughly know how much it’ll cost to send the package.
One of the things I noticed from the buying trend in Low Yat forums is that sellers are very generous. They include free gifts now along with their purchases. Though a free gift is great, always make sure its appropriate and would be appreciated by the seller. Don’t give a notepad if the item is a makeup kit.
Do you have any other packaging strategies or free gifts you think were inappropriate?
Absolutely right to have proper packaging cos I for one wouldn’t want my purchases to come with detached limbs and torsos or even bruised. Really love the way Amazon.com pack their stuff. Cheap & secure. Gift wrapping services is a plus. Well as for grocery shopping, they are delivered in the usual plastic bags ie Tesco, Asda and Marks & Spencers (in UK that is).
It’s undeniable that senders’ and recipients’ addresses must be clearly displayed. Well it does makes sense to print labels if you’ve got poor handwriting.
As for free gifts, company merchandise would be ideal (that’s if you have any). Free ads! Alternatively e-vouchers to spend on your website helps retain loyal customers. Hope these ideas could help boost your sales!!
Well trading in LowYat Forum sounds a bit dodgy to me. Though eBay & Lelong are popular but do take necessary precautions ie transact using PayPal. If you own an online store try WorldPay or StealthBuyer.
Thank you for your generous comment, Johnny.
As dodgy as LowYat Forum does sound, it’s an avenue for cheap techy goods as well as almost a haven for young ladies to shop.
Every e-commerce has its up and down. It’s just if owners are willing to take the risk in this business.
I haven’t used WorldPay as we normally work with 2CheckOut and I’ve said in another post you commented, StealthBuyer has potential but it’s still fresh. :)
