Why Google Mail (GMail) is Number One?

gmail storyMy first ever email account created was with one of those email providers which gives you flexibility in selecting a unique domain. Something like; iheartyou.com and etc. Come to think of it, I can not remember my last email provider anymore.

Nonetheless, even at that time I actually had more than 1 email account. I signed up with Hotmail because I couldn’t get a Rocketmail account and then I signed up with Yahoo! mail. Later down the road, I found out about Gmail as a friend invited me to use their service. And today, Google Mail or Gmail for short is my number one choice as an email provider. However, here’s why I consider Google Mail the number one player of email providers.

It’s because Google knows how to appreciate their customers. Plus, its super user friendliness companied with its super duper ‘logical’ spam protection makes Gmail a favourite to many Gmail users today.

One of the things I admire about Google is their marketing campaigns for their products. They’re simple ideas with an addictiveness indescribable to a customer. Their recent marketing campaign (I think recent) is; What’s your Gmail story?

This type of viral marketing video and influence on Gmail’s users is nothing but brilliant. Google knows how to capitalize on the market its dominating ever since its public beta release on February 7, 2007. With an initial storage capacity of 1 GB, it drastically increased the standard for free storage and challenged oldies; Yahoo! and Microsoft.

Ever since I registered my Gmail account, I’ve had nothing mean, bad, terrible, sarcastic, negative and…you get the idea, to say about the email provider or its service. They are simply the best and this is the reason they are my number one email provider.

p/s: Love their spam filter to bits. :D

  1. Strongly agreed with you. I used Gmail as my primary email now! I don’t care whether google scan/capture my mail or not…

  2. Well written, mate. :D

I have been using Gmail since I got an invite for it back in 24 September 2004 and like you mentioned, totally nothing negative to say about them!

Yeah their spam filter is ubar! Sometimes too powerful! Need to check spam folder for non spam, but that hardly happens aye. :p

    Cheers! :)

  3. I couldn’t believe how difficult it was thinking of something negative. I just couldn’t think of anything. LOL!

The only problem I’m facing now is sometimes when I use their Mail Search, my Firefox hangs up. Research via Google revealed it’s something to do with one of the add-ons or the browser itself.

As for spam, all I do is delete all messages now. Brilliant!

  4. Yup, they’ve definitely raised the bar on webmail services – if it weren’t for Gmail we’d still be using 2MB hotmails. And AJAX wouldn’t have gone on to be as big as it is.

  5. Hey Mike, thanks for dropping by. :)

Yes, that feeling of seeing 1GB worth of space. *drool* As for me, I never knew what AJAX was until I read it and I think like any other common user, it’s about the experience.

p/s: Your blog is taking advantage of your MatchboxCRM. ;)
