What Malaysian Women Want

This is not a post about solving your girlfriend, wife or admirees desires. This is a post having to do with marketing and business. You have been warned so don’t come here if you’re looking for a flame.

It’s interesting to find out once in a while statistics or data that would help you in your business. The female business doesn’t have to be cosmetics or accessories related because women of the world are changing and I think it might be the same for Malaysia.

Here’s a little something that I got from AdverBlog that they got from another source written by another woman. (well, this is what you get when it’s been passed through so many sources.)

The new woman is a complex combination of smart, focused and radical, traditional, committed and feminine. She is rewriting the rulebook on how brands can to talk to her. (…) Women want the same things as men, last year in Australia, women bought 60% of iPods sold. (…) Women’s need to share is fundamental and applies equally to consumer behavior as to life. (…) A woman won’t complain about a bad experience—she’ll simply leave. Ninety-six per cent of women will discard a product or service without complaining.

The title of their post was actually, What Australian women really want but I find that some traits are found in the Malaysian woman today.

One clear example is that the gaming market used to be an all male dominated field. But slowly there have been females around the world kicking gaming boys butts. There are even talented women gamers in our own country. Just that they remain beside their gamer boyfriend’s side instead of compete on a competition level.

Women today are becoming even more tech-savvy compared to most mothers of yesterday. Some of them now know so much about the computer or the Internet that they are slowly becoming role models to younger girls and hopefully inspiring them to be more than just dress up dolls.

However, the interesting part of the quote above isn’t the tech-savvy awared women but the behaviour of bad experiences with products. I believe that Malaysian women too are are acting in that way nowadays.

If they don’t like the product or have given them bad experiences, they’ll not only rant about it on their blogs or with their friends, they’ll leave the product or service without much complaining. Women are slowly becoming less noisy about experiences since there are so many other options around now. If she didn’t like X salon, she’d just visit the one next to it later.

With all the choices and options to choose from, competing for a chunk of the female market isn’t as easy as it used to be anymore. Women as well as men are looking for more than just the product, they’re looking for the experience.
