Finding Your Own Brand

It’s bad enough that when you’re helping create a new brand identity for a client it’s hardwork, imagine the insanity you need to put yourself through trying to come up with your own brand identity.

And you can’t technically escape this unless you plan to work your employee butt of your whole life and later live on your EPF. There’s bound to be a miniscule jerk in your brain thinking ‘what if I was running my own business?’

Well, you don’t really need to put yourself through much headache anymore just thinking of how to brand yourself.

The lovely LeaLea (yes, I know it does sound like Star Wars) from Lealea Design is posting up entries to help brain clogged designers like myself and others try to find their brand. And the best part of her. The Art of Self-Branding series is that it has two episodes parts.

The first part of her series really reflected of the ways I kinda came up with my first idea for my own brand. It was going to be called; (don’t laugh at me please) 2bblur. Well, ridiculous as it sounds, it was the reflection of me and my personality. My blur or spacing out quality is one of the finer tunings of my personality.

Anyway, so what Lealea suggests is that we should bang our heads really hard onto our computer table or keyboards and try to imprint the word ‘amnesiac‘ on it.

Her method of finding our own brand is to forget about some of the design principles and do some soul searching of ourself. We need to dig into our personality, friends, family members so that we could place our personality into our own brand.

Her interpretation of our brand is nothing but acccurate. Our brand is basically the representation of our self being. It’s the representation of who we are, what we are and where we are.

After you’ve interviewed or bashed out the serious answers from the people you asked about yourself, you’re ready to do some filtering. And you shouldn’t be cheating by removing the negative remarks might have on you because it might be a unique trait for you to add to your logo later.

So after distilling the information, it’s time to put it all together.

As Lealea said, Short and Sweet. :)
