Ad Location Proven via Case Study

I just finished reading one of Adsense latest case study about how Tim from AskTheBuilder.com managed to boost his already $10,000 monthly AdSense revenue to a whopping $30,000 revenue.

It was very interesting learning about Tim’s history and his journey of making it happen in a year since 2004.

Tim was very honest in his interview with the Adsense team and he modestly said,

“Visitors to my site are usually in a significant amount of pain. Their roof is leaking or they have a crack in their foundation,” says Carter. “I want to solve their problems, and that’s what AdSense does. AdSense provides instantaneous solutions to problems that my visitors have.”

At first I didn’t get what Tim really meant by that till I read how he experimented and tamed Adsense to his control in the article.

Through quick learning and utilizing the control of Adsense’s channels, he tracked a yellow background ad he started with and noticed that it wasn’t picking up much results. As you know, one of the main Adsense tips was to ‘implant’ your ads within your content. Tim now uses the square/rectangular ad with a matching background in his articles and a rectangular banner just above his articles.

However, with the hide and seek aficionado aside. I’ve learnt something really important from the article when Tim said,

With his recent implementation of the link units format in the upper left corner under the site search bar, Tim was astonished to see an 18 percent jump in his revenues.

I can think of a small explaination for this. Since Tim’s goal was to help his visitors in pain, his Adsense link units actually helped his visitors in agony even quicker. Instead of searching or navigating through the website, visitors actually might have found their answer right before them.

Clearly from this, it proves that there’s more to placing Adsense in strategic places in comparison to just following their recommended locations.

  1. Speaking of ad position, experimenting is always the best thing to do. There isn’t a single rule that fits all sites. Anyhow, write good contents to get more traffic is more important, before you can do those experiments. :)

  2. Sorry to comment about this, why don’t you change the background of your chitika ads? I’ve been to your blog quite a number of times and I am quite uncomfortable with that. LOL

  3. Hey Eng Lee,

I’ll see what I can do with the backgrounds of both the Chitika and Adsense ad in the comments. :) Cheers.
