WebSighting #10

The X edition of our running WebSighting series is proudly brought you by agent, CSSImport. This time we’re going to review a business consultant company’s website, Davis Business Consultants.

A quick introduction of owner, Paul Davis, is that he’s been working for over 20 years and a fellow member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. It looks like here’s an accountant who’s breaking the curse of boring accountants.

The website is very business driven and cuts right to the chase of its goal, which would be to focus on the business and the business owners and on ensuring that it works for them. This website was designed by Irishstu, who was featured in WebSighting #4.

Davis Business Consultants (DBC) has this black and grey color wheel going for them. These are the normal colors used for businesses like accountants or business consultants. They like to concentrate much on their professionalism though sometimes I find too much monochromatic colors a little on the dull side.

Thankfully, Stu actually convinved them to have some nicely taken pictures with fresher colors so the website still appeals to the brain.

I’m not really sure if this is Stu’s better works because I find quite a few weaknesses in this website. It’s quite worrying seeing someone of his standard in website design not noticing some of the smaller details that lack in this website.

The two biggest weaknesses that I found on DBC is the font size used in the navigation bar and some of the font colors. I find the text size in the main navigation a little on the small side. The content under contact us is rather difficult to be read. Looks like Stu must have used a #666 grey against the #333 background.

On the Services page, I think it would have worked better if there was a short excerpt below each section. Almost like what you see on the sidebar. As much as the link names are clear to any visitor, it’s a backup plan to have a short explanatory text there.

Alike the navigation, I’m not sure if it’s my eyes but the ‘more info’ button doesn’t really read well. Considering that DBCs clients are around the ages of 25 to 50s, quite a number of visitors with glasses might need to squint to read the text.

The layout of content on all pages are very consistent with clarity guaranteed. Nothing much need be commented about this.

In conclusion of it all, I really hope Stu could still fine tune the ‘more info’ buttons and the text color in the Contact Us on the sidebar. But I suppose if the client doesn’t want any changes, there’s nothing left that any designer/developer could do now.

Hope to see more of your stuff around later, Stu. Cheers.
