Someone Insulted Malaysians

If someone managed to access your blog or website and deleted all of your entries, along with their user accounts, wouldn’t you just feel like strangling the culprit?

Well, someone took the liberty of doing just that to the Merdeka Blogger Project we had ran this year. The person involved waited till after 15th September, after all Malaysians celebrated Merdeka to commit the offence.

I’m not sure about you, but it does feel like an insult not aimed directly at me but towards the Malaysian bloggers altogether. All the fine entries by our Malaysian bloggers that were plugged have been forcefully removed by the intruder. This intruder who doesn’t have respect for us Malaysians let alone our country.

Though the project didn’t face any defacement and humiliation like some might have experienced, I feel an act like this is very shameful and disrespectful.

Here we were as a community, trying to share one love for our nation, then someone tries to take our patriotism through blogging away. This person defiled our love for our nation and tried to humiliate our achievements. The culprit is now thinking that what has been done will make us panic like woosies and surrender our patritism through such a cunning scheme.

Alas, that’s what he thought would be happening. But nope, as much as I was shocked to find the intrusion of the Merdeka Blogger Project and tried my best to restore it, I didn’t feel pissed and felt like wrangling the person’s neck.

Instead, I felt very happy till the extent that I was almost going to cry. I’m actually glad something like this happened because this person is messing with the wrong locals. We, as Malaysians though humble and quiet, are a very patriotic and high spirited bunch when you’ve struck the right chord.

And to my dear intruder, that is just what you have done. You’ve just made it a point and reason for us Malaysian bloggers to be even closer and show more strength of patriotism. You’ve given all of us the reason to believe that there is something to prove for the love of our nation even more.

Your cunning act will now be turned around by more than the 50 over bloggers who had participated in the project. For all you know, the response of bloggers this time might double or triple.

So I thank you for helping us find our spirit of patriotism through blogging and makes me even more happy to keep this project running in 2006.

Thank you, dear intruder. *salute*

  1. This is why periodic back ups are a must :)
Ask your webhost if they have a back up of your site before the attack.

  2. Nope. What the person did is a crime of morality than a serious jail type crime.

So I’d rather just forget about it and show the person we could rebuild the project, it’ll also show that we Malaysians aren’t quitters. :)

  3. ISPs usually have an Acceptable Use Policy where the user must abide. One of the rule is to never misuse the service to interfere with another user’s enjoyment online, which is what the Merdeka Project would be.

Count me in next year. ;) I’ll get my friends to submit theirs too. Malaysia Boleh!!
