Normally, I’d churn out a full length website review whenever I’m doing this but I’m going to make things simple today. Everyone knows about nuff-nang. Nuff as it’s pronounced ‘enough’ and nang as it’s pronounced ‘bang’ with an ‘n’.
So to save you from embarrassing yourself or to rather save Timothy (founder of Nuffnang) some breaths, all together now…nuff-nang. If you said ‘nang’ as in ‘nangka’, you’re doomed unworthy of nuffnang. Just kidding…
As a Malaysia web designer who focuses highly on web standards, my default browser is none other than Mozilla Firefox. As much as you’d like to tell me Internet Explorer still holds a large portion of the market, I’d like to conclude based on my observation the browser usage is actually determined by the website context – so there. In conclusion, these bugs were found while using Firefox 2.0.0.6.
Nuffnang Bug #1
The first bug I’ve found on Nuffnang is the login. Whenever I’m on the main page and I click the login button. The floating panel comes up and requests for the email and password. The bug here is after entering the details rather than logging me in right away, I’m redirected to the page where it says:
Your session has expired. Please login again.
And I’ve found the Nuffnang culprit. If you were to try logging in with only the website address without the www prefix (http://nuffnang.com.my), then you’ll get the bug. If you typed in the full address, you’re okay. There is 1 way to fix this and that’s to make the website default to the address with the www prefix.
Nuffnang Bug #2
Next bug has something to do with the dashboard. I’ve really no idea why this is happening on Mozilla only. The ‘Add ads’ button disappeared. It pulls a Houdini on me every time I log in to the dashboard using Mozille Firefox.
Nuffnang Bug #3
The last bug I’d like to share isn’t really a bug but a good proof in concept why web standards helps improve website usability. When a lengthy website address is noted in the ‘Came From’ area, it stretches the table causing the layout to break. Development in CSS could’ve actually prevented this from happening.
But to be honest, the cause of this is only partially due to programming. I actually think the main cause of such a problem is the Nuffnang web design. It wasn’t built to be stretched and if it were, a simple fix is to repeat the navigation background so the break isn’t that obvious.
On the other hand, I don’t think I’m going to worry too much about all this because while I was having a cup of coffee with Timothy recently he hinted a new wave is on its way. I’m proud to say I’m behind Nuffnang all the way (though I don’t earn much) but if Tim needs my POV in the web design, you know the number to dial. :)
And if you’re still stuck on Internet Explorer, I recommend moving to a better and faster surfing Internet browser;

I never encounter bug #2 even though I am using Firefox.
That makes it even weirder.
Hmm, I wonder if Adblock is doing something to it since it’s called Add ads. LOL!
Yeah #1 had me confused for a while, but I worked it out the other night.
I guess they’ll remedy it soon.
Hmm, I wonder if they’ll remedy a small thing like that since a big wave is coming soon.
