What is the 9rules network?
We highlight the very best web content in the world and package it in a nice bow for you to unwrap. Our members discuss topics like Web 2.0 design, Hollywood gossip, cognitive psychology, sex & relationships, entrepreneurship, and many othersVia 9rules
In short, they’re a network of fast upcoming authors in the blogosphere discussing many topics of the future. They have taken the blogging network into a whole new level when they first introduced themselves in 2003/2004.
When it first started out, 9rules already was a hit with me because it’s previous design was just ‘oh-so-perfect’ to me. Don’t believe me?
Sorry for the small display. I was hunting for the original or bigger version even at the Archive but they didn’t cache the images. Thanks Colin for passing me the flickR archives, to view a ful version proceed Colin’s flickR gallery.
A little descriptive history of the previous design. It was in a sleek dark grey making it very modern and not to mention a corporate feel to it. However, they enlightened the feeling to a more pleasant feel by having the content in warm and cheerful tones. Their tab navigaton really worked very well and their uber network member list below was something I liked personally. From there on, they were on their way to becoming one of the more established blogging networks around.
Then after 4 months[1] or less since launch, they still managed to push my eyes further out of its sockets. I’m unaware when was this done but I’ve a feeling it wasn’t too long ago. Better hold your eyes down.

The new 9rules design has brought a new feeling of fresh to it. It uses more pleasant and cool colors in its overall design. Most of the design now are placed inside curved boxes compared to the previous design. Probabaly done for the sake of eliminating the feeling of being boxed in.
And I’m still liking the list of network members even more. Instead of developing a huge list, now the members are being categorized. Neat. Also, I’m very interested in the technology being used to pull the list of members in accordance of their categories. Really cool thingy.
End said, 9rules still continues to improve itself even more and next time I think I’ll need to be warned before vieiwing something this nice. *grin*
[1]Colin D. Devroe emailed me and corrected my mistake. This is what he said, “our version 1 design was up for only about 4 months (not two years). We could never sit on a design that long :)”
Laugh Out Loud (LOL) good one on you, Colin. ;)
Hey Danny, thanks for the review!
One small thing though, your snapshot is from IE6 I believe? Our site still has some small design bugs in that browser, so please check it out with Firefox to see what it should really look like. Thanks!
Heh, if I can only join that level of eliteness in my webdesign skills, I’d die a happy man…
Thanks for coming by Mike. It’s because SnagIt only works as a shortcut in IE. Was lazy to open the program up. LoL! My bad. But I’ve definetely felt the full experience in my default browser, Firefox. ;)
Xaph, you and me man. You and me.
It is refreshing to see a review on 9rules from this side of the globe. I am hopeless in web design, but I must agree they have the coolest design ever. So… refreshing. Yes, refreshing is the word. So Danny, are you able to create a WordPress template to that standard? ;)
Thanks Razlan. Well, it just takes practice a keen attitude of knowledge gain to practice website design and development. :)
I, myself am trying to work towards a higher standard for myself not only in WordPress per se but my hand in programming. ;)
cheers.
Well Danny, I might be looking for someone to redesign my blogs to that kinda look. Let me know if you are able to do it, and I’ll keep you in my list of blog designers
Hey Razlan, sounds interesting. Anyway, will get in touch with you and see how I could assist you even though I too am still figuring out WP. :)
Cheers.
