There was a time I started questioning the existence and purpose of my blog and kept asking the question, What Becometh Thy Blog? Then after a month has passed ushering now into October, Eyeris has his own question to ask many and himself, Malaysian bloggers, where has the FUN gone?
His entry wonders where has all the random fun gone in bloggers. There ain’t not many posts now touching the ramblings, rants, humorous life of people. Instead, now people are blogging for the sake of becoming famous or trying to make it famous.
With the intention of bloggers only doing it not to seek sanctuary in their own space, Eyeris says that he’ll spend anyone a Nescafe 3-in-1 if they prove themselves a qualified ‘Blog Guru’. The guru has to be a certified (though might be self-proclaimed) teacher who tells;
“This is not how you should blog” or “Your blog is not a BLOG” or “You are a bad blogger because you don’t do this and this”.
..as said by Eyeris.
Eyeris had touched a lot of points regarding the simplicity of blogging now turning into a complex media. Instead of normal people just finding a place to voice out, there are bloggers driven by their egos (in hope of making it) and even those now whom are being investigated. So what Eyeris says,
There IS no PROPER way to be a GOOD BLOGGER. There IS no such thing as a good or bad blogger, just bloggers whom are read and those whom are not.
..is entirely true. The dub proper way of blogging in Eyeris’ eyes is that a blogger shouldn’t be ashamed of his grammar or even typos. He said there have been too many bloggers always trying to edit the typos. He believes this is one of the traits of being a true blogger and I do believe so.
On the other hand, like the comment I had left on his post.
Anyway, blogging for fun has lived its over extended life. Currently, blogs are becoming more than just personal thought of a daily life into concentrated topics that people like discussing or reading certain topics in a certain style.
Examples of matured bloggers with their content are like Screenshots, Brand New Malaysian, and more. This is the evolution of blogging and what is growing up to be.
So maybe looking at probloggers as a ‘Guru’ might be too highly instated. Instead, maybe we should accept the real probloggers as our mentors. They are the people who provide guidance of maturing along with our blogs. After all, we all can’t behave like a 9 year old all the time.
Let’s all just go with the times and follow the evolution of bloggers. Allow the existence of older bloggers to be mentors and guide our local bloggers to blog for what is right from their heart and not just from what comes out of their minds.
Now excuse me for this, but why in the world should we take on ‘probloggers’ or ‘matured’ bloggers as our mentors? Life is much bigger than this online thing we call ‘blogs’. Just because they are better known in this ‘blog’-circle?
After all, not everyone blogs to be famous. Maybe this *may* look like it, but in fact a huge majority of blogs out there don’t include themselves into directories, search engines or ping websites like PPS. The thing is, you can’t easily find them! And that’s exactly the point!
10 years ago when we were trawling BBS and newsgroups, playing text-based games through telnet, there already existed something called Netiquette. Sometimes, those who may have more ‘experience’ on the Net are literally 9-year-olds (or at least act that age). :P
Mentors? Bah humbug.
yyeahh…
jjust blog what we like. not what d ppl read..
blog don’t need mentor..
it’s up to individual itself..
i do agree with totoro, why must have guru ? Why must follow the Guru style ? why cant we use our own style ?
No pun intended but if you take a look at pps nowadays. Its fulla so call tech blog … why is this ? i think i no need to elaborate on this issue also we all know why la. A handfull of them are really good but the rest are merely a replica of “someone”
i think this is what you get for learning from “guru” huh?
“Guru?” lancau la! lol
Blogosphere needs diversity, not more ‘MacZuls and Jeff Oois’, please.
hi, just wanted to tell you there’s an extra “e” in the screenshots url. and also, it’s the same people pinging PPS most of the time, so there isn’t much range anyway.
(i’ve forgotten my password, so no go for me!)
“..blog for what is right from their heart and not just from what comes out of their minds.”
Allow me to explain what I meant by this. It means that older bloggers should be encouraging bloggers to blog from their hearts and not just with their minds thinking of the fame and glory. The sentence wasn’t intended to urge bloggers to take on a mentor. My apologies if you took it that way.
The reason for mentors are like your parents or seniors who’ll be around to guide you in any problems you might be facing. For instance, if someone started flaming your blog for no apparent reason, do you just flame back? or find the person out and wallop them? or leave them be? or any other method to solve the solution?
Goes the same for finding your blogging style. Mentors may be able to shed some light and give you feedback. But in the end it’s your choice.
Mentors aren’t around to give you lectures but to advice you on the best possible solution. That means that you either choose to listen or not.

Thanks, URL ammended. :)
Blogging has gone out of control. Much of the blog contents are sheer chat. They might as well do a session of chat rather than blog.
Since many bloggers operate as interconnected rings and mini-networks, they would fare better with a gmail group or yahoo group.
If the number of participants is small, they can just operate with their address books.
Maybe there is need for some sort of body which passes constructive comments in the comments section of the blogs.
If there is no steering and no quality control, then blogging would be great time-waster. Bloggers would have stoop low to make their blogs visitable and readable.
Think about it.
