Nuffnang Needs to Reword Their Emails

pen and letterI recently received an official email from Vivian, who’s in Nuffnang’s blogger relations department. It was a real surprise receiving an email from Nuffnang so I thought it could be some extraordinary thing which was gonna be offered.

However, little did I know the contents of the email made me very frustrated and instantly disappointed with Vivian. The harsh reply and screenshot of my blog I had sent back to her was due to an assumption and misunderstanding when I read the email once.

In the first paragraph of the email, it wrote:

My name is Vivian from Nuffnang. I hereby to inform you that one of the advertisers: Digi is running a campaign on your blog (dannyfoo.com/blog) and it is a Large Rectangle ads unit. However, when I checked out your blog and I do not see our Nuffnang ads there.

The phrase in bold made me rocket jump over the wall and made me want to shoot rockets back at Vivian. I even questioned her authority and proof on when did the mentioned Nuffnang advertisement became unavailable on my blog. Because ever since I joined Nuffnang, I had its advertisement always running.

A couple of minutes later did I realize from checking all the Nuffnang preview sizes, there was in fact the unavailable ad unit she mentioned. It was the Large Rectangle unit with the size of 336 x 280 (the one below) which I actually didn’t have.

I apologized to her right after learning my mistake. However, I think for future emails such as this. The introductory paragraph shouldn’t mention; “I do not see our Nuffnang ads…”

This phrase is very easily misinterpreted and as a strong supporter of Nuffnang, it automaitcally triggered the disappointment in me. It’s kind of like if you’ve been a loyal fan and suddenly someone accuses you, you’d jump the gun before looking at it calmly.

Therefore, if you’re reading this Vivian or whoever from Nuffnang, please don’t use such a phrase in your emails anymore. Unless of course, the involved bloggers really doesn’t have any Nuffnang ads.

Probably a simpler and more direct phrase like…

I noticed you don’t have our Large Rectangle ad unit (link to ad preview) on your blog at the moment.

…would give the email reader less space for a misunderstanding. Nonetheless, I’ve admitted my error and I hope to see the DiGi ad on my blog soon. :D

  1. Aye, I received an email from her too, mine goes like this:

My name is Vivian from Nuffnang. I really really hate to bother you but
one of the advertisers running a campaign on your blog (ahkong.net) at the
moment: TM iTalk has expressed concern that your ad unit may be placed a
little too low to garner enough attention hence resulting in a very low
    CTR.

Could I by any chance trouble you to correct the placement and put it
    higher up on your blog?

    ……

I think her message was quite clear enough, so she probably interacted with you first before she emailed to me? I got this email 8:28am this morning.

    Cheers!

  2. Deimos:
Yours was what I thought my problem was. However, it’s weird for them to actually ask that in my opinion. On the other hand, it’s out of courtesy of valuing their members so to make sure they get these advertisements. :)

Anyway, I think my next blog design will have to be more advertisement friendly.

    Planet:
Don’t get your comment there. HAhahahaha..

  3. That I do KitKat.

I may actually be too focused on some advertising at the moment. So I’m actually pondering on my next course of action. Not to mention, I’m aiming to come up with a new layout. Something which I could call my own. :)

  4. How does Nuffnang perform on your site? The logo is HIDEOUS! BTW you should totally checkout my site dude! It’s sick!

  5. In terms of monetary performance, I suppose it’s getting there on a slow pace but it was the same for my Adsense when I first begun. However, I believe Nuffnang may earn faster for me with the right blog strategy. :)

As for the logo…well, it was designed by a friend of mine and I guess they were aiming for the whole Web 2.0 thing so that sums it up really.

And yes, I’ve checked out your blog. The first thing I noticed about it even from Low Yat forum is the good use of typeface for ‘craplicious’. Plus, I see you’re a Brian Gardner theme user as well. LOL!

  6. Brian Gardner is the mastah of simplicity! In terms of logo, Nuffnang lost big time to Advertlets, they really should hire a better logo designer if they want to look more professional. No offense to your friend, but I don’t consider typing 3 words (nuff, nang, ads) and change their colors respectively considered a “logo design” LOL

  7. None taken. I personally know my friend is more passionate in illustration than multimedia or graphic design. But since he proposed, that’s why he got it lor.

So if you proposed to them, they may take yours in 2008. ;)

  8. Hi Danny,

I really like your theme.. simple and clean and I think I might need to change mine to a much simple-r theme soon. :P

Nuffnang is improving and in no time, they should be the best in Malaysia. So far, I have no problem with them. All the best in your upcoming theme!

  9. Well, Brian Gardner’s themes are mostly clean. I just edited his a lil so it’s pink now. But I’m aiming to develop a WordPress theme of my own and aiming to get it done in January. :)

As for Nuffnang, there’s a long way to grow like any business but their startup is huge now.

  10. Well, I guess it’s so they have more convincing power over the client by saying this blog has the traffic and if you’re not gonna advertise here, you’re gonna lose out. :P
