And Peter Flaschner at Almost Cool tells us why? HERE. The article is from the series he’s currently writing, “Who Should Be Blogging?”. He’s already spoken about used car dealers, realtors and with the latest addition, freelancers.
A summary of reasons from Peter’s article?

Why do I think a freelancer should blog?
If you’re true and true right to your heart, your passion writes for you. If you’re pure and pure of mind, your posts point towards righteousness. If you’re open and open of heart and mind, you’ll understand that freelancing isn’t only about freedom, it’s about the confidence you have in yourself and not fearing acknowledging that you’re forever learning. You are professional, you are humble, you are a person who thinks the world is neither round or square because your posts will reflect the person with a passion to absorb his/her surrounding.
And it’s time to let the cat out of the bag for readers who are here now. My next website revamp is going to be pretty big. (to me..) It’s going to be a portfolio with a blog that I’ll try to cover every aspect of the web design industry. It’s content would be broken into various categories such as web design & usability, technology, marketing, managing and employment. All this will be finalized upon the final launch later, which I aim to be by 2006.
So my friends, this website will no longer be a space of rants and rambling. It would be a place of knowledge that I hope to share with everyone as I age and experience through my career as a freelancer. I want to share the tears, the joy and the truth of this business.
Oh, don’t worry. I’m still going to have a place for my rants and ramblings. Just that it’ll be in a more subtle method with some visual stimulant. ;)
I hope everyone will stick around with me till then. Cheers.
Haha, pretty cun article. Blogging about your passions does pay off, and I actually got a job offer from my blog. Wonderful stuff, blogging is. All the best for your portfolio!
Thanks Charmaine. :) I’m also looking forward to what goodness it might bring in 2006. Cheers.
I think I am able to give you a few freelance jobs :)
having experienced the best of both world (freelancing and now working), i think freelancer can offer something that a corporate design avenue cant – personal touch and experience. Freelancer get to established firm and personal contact with their client, being able to provide more since clients interact directly with them. THis is a big plus since everyone love to be given extra attention, more so when they are paying for it. Blog is a perfect medium for that matter.
Right now, i am just glad if i can get all the datelines done on time and let my other colleagues handle the customer interaction. As you can see, there’ll be syncing and communciation problem of what the client really wants, what my colleague tell me what they really want and what i presume what they really want. It can be a big mess.
What a great idea……looking forward to learn something from you :).
@Liew:
Thanks for the heads on. I’m sure we’ll be able to work plenty in the future. Another powerful alliance found huh? ;)
@Alvin:
Personally speaking to a client is one of the things I love about freelancing. Getting a better idea of what they want to achieve from the project and understanding clearer what are the type of changes they want made to mock designs. However, not so hurrah situations are times when you first meet clients and they request on the spot estimates..more on this in the revamp. *grin*
@Emotionalistic:
I’m still in the learning process and will still be learning even if I were a Director in my own company. Well, that’s IF I plan to be the Director of a company. ;)
ah, good post
I myself was pondering whether i should include a blog to my upcoming site. I guess that I should…
but the downside is that you can’t post crap or personal thoughts regarding certain topics (to avoid offending prospective clients :( )
ps: gahh, I’m needing help on movable type soon ;)
Well, that’s why many advise to have 2 seperate websites. One is personal that’s not released to general public so stumbling upon it might only work iva Google powers. :P
But if the portfolio website and blog are weaved together then they shouldn’t have anything that will hurt prospective clients. :)
As for MT, I might be moving on to something else. *grin*
“If you’re true and true right to your heart, your passion writes for you.”
That rings so true. ;) To the next step then! Looking forward to it. Cheers!
Thanks Wil. :)
I hope the best too. I’d be disappointed with myself if I can’t fulfill the expectations I’d be putting myself into later.
