Day 4: Buy the Apple iPhone in Malaysia

When I first learned about the Apple iPhone prices in Malaysia it was crazy. Although the prices were not fixed ranging from as low as RM2100 to as high as RM3000+. Everyone who wanted the Apple iPhone in Malaysia was justifying the cost, including me.

It was the simple calculations we did involving the product and only the hack. Some included the courier charges from the USA but that too didn’t add up to some of the reselling prices. In desperation, all I could do at the point was start blogging about the Apple iPhone in Malaysia albeit it’s a little different now. Since it’s right beside me as I’m typing this.

Anyway, as you all know the folks at iPhones Unlocked were good enough to loan me a unit for my Apple iPhone Malaysia review. It’s been great from Day 0; I received the Apple iPhone to this day I’d like to share an Apple iPhone promotional deal I’ve got you guys from them.

Shiew has offered to allocate 10 units of 8GB Apple iPhone to be sold to interested buyers from my blog. The going price for these units (thanks to this running review and its readers) is RM2680. Furthermore, he has sweeten the deal by adding if all 10 units were sold then the buyers will receive a further reduction of RM180. With that, buyers will only pay RM2500 for the 8GB Apple iPhone in Malaysia.

Firstly, it’s not the cheapest around (it never is in Malaysia) but that isn’t the catch. Yes, the catch or benefit (depending on how you look at it) is the 10 units of Apple iPhones are the reknown Apple refurbished Apple iPhone units. Before you think these are hand me downs or the like, think for a moment why Apple products are very rarely found. And did you know Apple refurbished products are highly sought after?

The simple reasons why Apple refurbished products are choice products is:

  • Cheaper
  • Better quality
  • New warranty

The possible scenario is if a buyer so happens to find an Apple iPhone faulty (which sometimes isn’t necessary the case) they could get a brand new one replaced for them. Of course, this is only done in America and other certain countries.

Therefore, if you really want an affordable and (almost) perfectly compatible Apple iPhone in Malaysia, you’d better get a hold of of one of these 8GB Apple iPhone units from this blog. Interested Malaysia Apple iPhone users could enquire in the comments but buyers please contact me through email.

If I had the money at this time, there’d only be 9 units of 8GB Apple iPhones for ordering to Malaysia. :P

Jimmy and the Apple iPhoneToday, I also met up with another Malaysia Apple iPhone buyer named Jimmy (rashow). His first expression upon seeing the Apple iPhone was “Oh my God!”. While he oogled and man handled the Apple iPhone, his pregnant wife awed and bugged him to let her have a go at the Apple iPhone as well. After all, it is a lady killer so Jimmy was ‘protecting’ her.

Both of them were very impressed by not only it’s sheer beauty – Jimmy said it’s sexy, but they expected the Apple iPhone to have video recording capabilities. Besides that, it was written all over Jimmy’s face how badly he wanted the Apple iPhone and now he wants it even more than ever. He has also informed me other than him he’s got friends who’re ready to buy the Apple iPhone right away.

Less said, Apple iPhone buyers here better note there now may be only 7-8 units of 8GB Apple iPhone left. With that, most likely we’re about to see more and more Malaysia Apple iPhone users very soon.

And I’m sure you’ll be one of them if you’ve been reading this. :)

  1. Warranty is under Apple or Shiew?

RM2.4k, that’s the money that I am planning to buy the Canon 400D. There’s a lot to think about if I am to buy this iPhone. On top of that, the product is way too new for my liking (as in firm wares, bugs and etc.)

  2. Jason:
If you’re already hacking the iPhone to use in Malaysia, I don’t think Apple would be giving you a warranty. Although you could sell it back to a USA resident at the same cost (it was sold in US) or slightly lower because iPhones Unlocked policy is to be able to revert back the Apple iPhone as it was without the messy tinkling. :)

I’m afraid the camera and iPhone is more of your priorities. What do you need most at this moment in time? The camera could be for work or hobby? In the iPhone scenario it could be because your phone is already dying on you? So you need to think about what is your immediate requirements now.

As for firmware, it’s solid at 1.0.2 and bugs, I’ve not encountered any yet so far. Except when using some third party applications but that responsibility is with the team who offered it.

    Mamet:
Thanks for pointing that mistake out. I get too carried away typing sometimes. I noticed you’ve got some articles on the iPod, so you considering an Apple iPhone?

  3. No warranty for a RM2500 product, that doesn’t sound very enticing to me. :( I might just wait for the iPhone to be properly launched in Malaysia and then only get it.

I consider myself a user more towards the heavy user side. Although I don’t use the stock, map and weather function (I doubt we can use them in Malaysia.), I certainly welcome the mail and Safari function.

The camera function is there for me to take MMS pictures or some quick shot when I didn’t bring my camera out (which is very seldom). I am a casual user when it comes to MP3 music while I’m on the move. Hence, the purpose of buying the iPhone is to replace my 2 year old and lagging like a tortoise Symbian phone N70. I believe it’s going to die anytime soon.

However, looking at the specification, it’s rather tad disappointing that it doesn’t come with 3G. There aren’t many hotspots in Malacca as in KL yet. I am still waiting for you to complete you review of the iPhone before I further make my own research and read ups.

Really need to ponder about it. Saving another RM2.5k is no easy feat.

P/S : Is the phone able to send out MMS? WAP? GPRS?

  4. means there is no warranty for this iPhone?what if this phone get faulty after few months of using and whom should i send in for repair or i just throw it into rubbish bin?
is it possible to install those fancy programs like marbles rolling when u shake your phone, filling the phone with beer or something like that kind?and i saw it from some websites that its battery cant be taken out like a normal handphone so where should i get the battery replaced if its spoils?

  5. Jason:
You can wait…like some others…and wait. You get the idea. It’s like waiting for an Apple Malaysia concept store which many (including me) am praying for one. Although it was hinted the iPhone will in Asia early 2008 but it wasn’t clarified where in Asia. As discussed in the iPod Touch post, Apple may not come in if there isn’t the provider to support it.

I wouldn’t have use for WAP or GPRS if I have WiFi and EDGE. No doubt 3G is faster than EDGE but because you already have WiFi, I suppose Apple thought why do you need anything better. Well, you have to give them that since the Apple iPhone was meant to be in the US first.

I can so understand the difficulty in saving the cash. I too owe my parents for a couple of things they helped me out pay in advance. It’s not easy and for that, I’m lucky. But like you, I’m a photography hobbyist so buying lenses to me takes a longer than normal weight compared to the avid or working photographer. :)

    Ray:
It’s not that you won’t have totally no warranty. If you have a problem or an error, get in touch with the iPhones Unlocked folks. They’re not the sell, close shop and let their customers wander type.

I think you mean the Installer applications. Yes, you can install as many as your hard disk permits you. :D

Good question. I can’t answer that for now on behalf of iPhons Unlocked but I’ll get them to come here for that.

  6. Well, it is a lifestyle phone. And when it’s coming from Apple, it’s always at a premium price. Of course, that is different if you’re living in the USA.

End said, if you really want the phone then you’d be more than willing to pay any price for it. My purpose is not to find the best buy but to talk about what experiences I’ve encountered with the phone. :)

  7. Hi Danny,
Just wanted to know whether you still have any iphones left? If so what is the going price at the moment?
I read some of your articles concerning the iphone v the itouch. In your opinion do you think that that the itouch is a better device to purchase even though it doesn’t have phone capability?
Since Malaysia will only officialy get the iphone in 2008 do you think apple will launch a new iphone with greater capability and features soon?
    regards
    David

  8. Hey David,

The iPhones Unlocked guys are stocking up again by the end of this week. At the moment, new 8GB units are at RM2800. However, this blog has an agreement that if 5 buyers ordered from here then they’ll get it at RM2680. If 10 buyers exist, they’ll slash it by another RM180; RM2500. To be honest, there are cheaper but it’s whether they can offer what iPhones Unlocked do.

Well, I thought the Touch was the ‘iPhone temporary replacement’. In other words, I thought how lovely it would be to watch movies in a bigger screen. As for your question, I would say get the iPhone instead of the Touch. If you’re comparing the Touch and the iPod Classic, probably the Classic is better since it has better playing hours.

It is rumoured by the time Apple releases it in Asia 2008, we may have 3G support. However, it’s only the support for its standard and not 2-way video conferencing. That said, you just have an option for faster connectivity besides WiFi.

I doubt the iPhone will come in any other greater capability. And I wouldn’t call the latest addition of the iTunes WiFi Music Store a great thing, since we can’t use it in Malaysia any how. Extended features could be developed by the community sources by the time the device is officially available in Asia.

In the end, I would say if you can afford it then you should get it. :D

  9. Hey danny sorry haven’t been checking out your blog was busy playing daddy cool lol. yeah my wife delivered on wednesday and now i’m a proud father to a nice boy, hehehehe for the iphone i’m meeting with two guys tomorrow and probably finalising the iphone deals, so i might get two guys or one who are potential buyers the others mught get it at a later stage somewhere end of nov.

so i’ll msg u once everything is done i hope u still have a few units left.

  10. Jimmy:
That’s really great news and congratulations, bro. Well, my schedule is overwhelmed tomorrow so I will not be able to tag along with you and show them the iPhone.

The reseller informed me he’s stocking up again this week so most likely there’ll be units by then. :)

  11. It was made know that iPhone Firmware Ver 1.1.1 hack version is officially selling in the market, wonder who can get it in, I’m the first 1 interested to get 1 and I have a bunch of friends are interested as well, if positive, please let me know the price tag…

    Cheers…

    Regards,
    Chew

  12. Hello iPhone Fans,

I have done extensive research thru internet, it is better to go with iPhone Ver 1.1.1 instead of Ver 1.0.2 which is currently in our market coz Apple has enhanced iPhone 1.1.1 with additional features + make iPhone more user friendly + Bugs Fixed. I have seen once iPhone Ver 1.1.1 somewhere in Subang Jaya which belongs to someone, I have seen Ver 1.0.2, it make a lot of difference… Having said that, lets get the iPhone supplier to bring in Ver 1.1.1 for all of us

    Cheers.

    Regards,
    Derric

  14. You get his details at iPhonesUnlocked.blogspot.com

I’ve also emailed you some details on your interest of purchasing the 8GB unit Apple iPhone v1.1.1. :)

  15. Hi Danny.

I stumbled across your website when doing a google on iPhones in Malaysia.
I am a malaysian living in the US and I have 2 iPhones 1.02 ROM.

iPhoneSimFree came out with an unlock for the new 1.1.1 ROM.
You still need to pay for the unlcok but in general, here’s what you need to do with 1.1.1.

SimFree v1.7 now Native for v1.1.1 iPhones.

    Regards
    Patrick

    ————————————–

With the release of the new jailbreak/activation by the community development teams there is no longer a need to downgrade to 1.0.2. SimFree 1.7 is specifically tailored to be run on 1.1.1 phones with no need to downgrade. The brilliant work by the teams combined with SimFree 1.7 means that it is now possible to get a brand new 1.1.1 phone and have it fully up and running in under 10 minutes. We strongly recommend that all our resellers switch to this new method of jailbreak. We can now also recommend that all our previously unlocked users upgrade to 1.1.1 . Please note that if you have already unlocked your phone once using any previous version of SimFree there is no need to unlock it again.

Please follow the simple step by step instructions outlined below to get Simfee 1.7 onto a freshly jailbroken phone.

    1. On the Activation Screen, slide ro the Emergency Screen.
    2. Type *#307# and hit Call, the phone will start ringing and diplay 1 Calling.
    3. Delete all the numbers from the top right of the screen and Call the number 0.
    4. Press Answer, Hold and then Decline.
    5. Go to Contacts and create a contact. In the Url field type prefs://1f and save it. Then add another URL and type jailbreakme.com and save it.
    6. Click on the prefs://1f and you can select your WiFi network. Exit by pressing home and then Dial and Call the number 0 from the emergency screen.
    7. Select the second URL called jailbreakme.com of the contact you created and and follow the Install AppSnapp. Wait for it to finish and reboot the phone when its done.
    8. Now AppTapp is on your Home Screen so you can install SimFree v1.7 directly on the phone.
    9. In Sources press Edit, Add, and type in http://tinyurl.com/2qxpe6 . Accept the AppTapp installer message and it will show iPhoneSimFree on your Install list.
    10. After that you must install from the System tab the BSD Subsystem and then SimFree v1.7 from the iPhoneSimFree tab.
    11. You should now Go to the phone Settings application and in General – AutoLock, select Never you can now run SimFree v1.7. Its that easy!

    2) New IMEI editor:

As part of our ongoing effort to improve our service and customer support we would like to inform you of the addition of IMEI edit and delete service (for un-activated licenses) for Iphonesimfree resellers. You are now able to login, edit and delete your own customer IMEI. For security reasons there will be a 48 hours delay after input into the system for editing of a particular IMEI to be active.

    Best regards,
    iPhoneSimFree.com

  16. Thanks for coming by, Patrick.

I’m assuming this is only suitable for iPhoneSimFree license holders, right?

Anyway, I don’t recall having to do that many steps as well. Weirdly enough I was just asked to use the latest version of INdependence and follow the instructions from there. I’ll ask Shiew and see if he knows about the above. :)

What’s baffling me with some steps above is how can you access your contacts if your phone is still in the emergency mode?

Unfortunately, I don’t think I can test this now but I suppose for anyone using iPhoneSImFree may do so and relate back here later when successful.

    Good luck people.

  17. This is specifically for 1.1.1 ROM which has a different jailbreak method than 1.0.2 (which I believe is the version you have).

There were two common jailbreak methods for 1.02
The free version and the iPhoneSimFree paid version.
Do you know which one you have?

    Patrick

  18. Ahh… no wonder. Yeah, mine was already on 1.0.2 ROM.

Let’s see, I don’t know (since I was given 1.0.2 jailbreak-ed) about the free or paid but I’m guessing paid because Shiew works with iPhoneSimFree. Lucky me, not only I have an iPhone to constantly play with but it’s a free of use phone for me right now. :)

Phone bill not covered though. LOL!

  19. Hi Danny,
I went to Low Yatt yesterday to check out the iPhone. It is really fantastic. cant wait to get one for myself and indeed almost bought one yesterday. But there were a few doubts that stopped me from buying. The salespeople told me that we cant update the device cause it will get locked. So, does this mean that we cant go online at all using WiFi? And the earplug looked fishy. Could there be any possibility that they have changed the earplug with the not ori ones? Is there any way to tell the apart, i mean between the ori earplug and not ori? The lowest offer i got for a 8 GB was RM1900. is it a good deal? Any news of iPhone arrival officially in Malaysia? I think Apple opening a big store in Lot 10, could they be launching iPhone there as part of opening event?

  20. Hey Xander,

The issue with the update is Apple in a way ‘promised’ the AT&T telco they’d have exclusive rights to the Apple iPhone in the USA. When you read this phrase, obviously its limited to certain terms. Why Apple locks the phone again on every firmware release is because they need to cover their behind from getting sued.

However, it’s logical that if in a scenario someone unlocks the firmware on his own to use with other telco providers then Apple is still protected. The only thing AT&T can do is sue those in USA for cracking it. :P

The most important thing about buying an unlocked iPhone to me is knowing how they unlocked it. There’s the paid iPhoneSimFree (IPSF) and open-source. Both can unlock but open-source normally requires you to be very tech-savvy and is lagging behind unlocking new firmwares compared to IPSF.

In addition, before 1.1.1 was unlocked many open-source people who tried to update bombed their phones or rendered it unusable as you’d call it.

It’s difficult telling if the earphones are original because it’s easily imitated. As for the offer of RM1900, that’s really low but like I said – how did they unlock it.

There’s no concrete information on the Malaysia launch yet but the welcoming rumours are they’re releasing a 3G version to Asia. And what’s still bugging me is how Maxis still has problems with the iPhone while DiGi and Celcom are fine. Bah! :P

  21. A number of people have unlocked using the open source method mentioned otherwise known as anySIM. :)

However, this method doesn’t support 1.1.2 at the moment. While iPhoneSimFree (paid solution) already have a solution to unlock 1.1.2 if necessary.

    Regards.

  22. Hey Danny,
Bought my iPhone v 1.1.1 yesterday from Sg Wang Plaza. I just want to check with u this, about the locking risk, is it only happen when we connect iPhone to iTunes or it can happen anytime we are online?

  23. How much did you pay for it, Xander?

For the locking risk, when you launch iTunes to sync with your Apple iPhone don’t “Download and Install” any firmware which prompts up. You can either cancel or just download the new firmware using iTunes but don’t update. Because if I’m not mistaken your iPhone should be version 1.1.1 now. It has iTunes right?

But yeah, the locking risk is only when you select download and install latest firmwares. This is because when you install the new firmware your iPhone won’t recognize anything again and you’ll need to unlock it…again.

    Regards.

  24. Hey Danny,
Thanks for ur reply. I paid a good RM2550 for it, bah! Is it considered expensive or ok? Yeah, it has iTunes. The ppl in Low Yat said the price of iPhone v 1.0.2 has gone up. I wonder why cause i thought it is suppose to go down since v 1.1.1 is here already.
But now I’m a frustrated iPhone user. Until now, I cant still use the iPod since I cant connect to iTunes. When I launched iTunes 7.3, the message popped up saying I cant use the iPhone since it is only supported by iTunes 7.4 or later. But I thought we cant use 7.4 or later due to the locking thingy issue. There was even a piece of paper inside the iPhone packaging reminding users not to upgrade to iTunes 7.4. Arghhhhh… pls advice me what to do Danny. Is it safe to sync my iPhone 1.1.1 using iTunes 7.4 or 7.5? or is there an alternative way to iTunes to upload my mp3s and other files?
I tried to use iBrick to upload files and ringtones but cant see them on my iPhone. What happen was, the files gone into the iBrick folder on my laptop’s hard drive. I’ve already killed the iPhonehelper. What did i do wrong? Hm… I thought paying RM2550 will make things easy for me but no…… it has to go to the hard way. Adoi….. This episode reminds me of my struggle when i bought my iPod 3/4 years ago.
And thanks for ur advice in advance.

    Frustrated,
    Xander

  25. Xander, I’m no self-proclaimed iPhone technician but let’s see.. *grabs screwdriver*

Low Yat and Sungei Wang fellows always know how to ‘sell’ you the phone. Anyway, RM2550 for anySIM (open source) unlock is too pricey. Even my reseller is now selling at RM2300. While if you go and hunt around or get a virgin to unlock yourself, it’s cheaper.

Anyway, so is your iPhone 1.0.2 or 1.1.1 ?

When my iPhone was still 1.0.2 I synced with iTunes 7.4 all the time. Then when I upgraded to 1.1.1 around 2 weeks back I was already using iTunes 7.5 and still am. I think you can’t use iTunes 7.3 is because it doesn’t support the iPhone or wasn’t made to sync with an iPhone . :P

    But here’s what I advise doing *unscrews*…

    1. Find out what firmware you’re on.
    2. Download iTunes 7.5.
    3. Sync your phone.
    4. Do NOT download and install firmware 1.1.2 (unless you wanna unlock again)
    5. And you’re good to go for syncing iPhone and iTunes.

    For iBrick;

    1. What files did you upload besides ringtones?
    2. And you meant iTunesHelper, not iPhoneHelper right?

iBrick is just getting the hang of it. After once or twice you should be familiar already. So hang in there. :)

  26. Mine is v 1.1.1. Expensive? Huhu … i’m a loser then :-( Ok, i’ll try to sync it with7.5 tonite.

Yeap, i mean iTunesHelper. Sorry for that blunder.I tried to upload mp3 and photo actually.

    Thank you for the tips.

    Regards
    Xander

  27. I’ve heard of it but….I’ve not tried it.

Normally when I want to manage my iPhones files, I’d use iFuntastic on my Macbook. Somehow the Mac applications made for the iPhone have been more stable to me.

    Sorry about that, Xander.

  28. Yup, I do.

The folks over at MAXIMiphone (www.maximiphone.com) will do it for you. Whether for a minimal fee or not I’m not sure. But be sure to mention you were referred from my blog and they may give a better rate. ;)

    Regards.

  29. here’s a question… my maps app doesn’t seem to call up malaysia street maps. works fine with singapore maps and thailand maps etc… but i only get the satellite views for malaysia. if u visit maps.google.com you’ll see that malaysian maps ARE available on google maps.

anyone seeing the same thing? wonder if this is linked to the malaysia-not-a-choice-in-the-contacts-list-of-countries issue.

  30. Danny,

thanks for the response. are they located in kl? if not do you know of anybody in kl that can upgrade the iphone.

  31. david:
I tried it and I see what you mean. And I’m starting to think you may be right about the localization thing. I wonder if the maximiphone guys already managed to localize the 1.1.2 yet. That’s what last I heard.

    hobbit:
yup, they’re located in Petaling Jaya to be exact. :)

get in touch with them here: sales(at)maximiphone.com

  32. cute thing about the thailand maps… they’re all in THAI… hahaha… can imagine an american traveller whipping out his ifone and going WTF…

  33. Wouldn’t count on the Malaysia Infrastructure to fully support iPhone, mainly if you get a US Based one, it’s open for 480/850/1900 Mhz only, ie TDMA, CDMA, and PCS1900 which is WHY Maxis cannot see you being it 100% GSM 900.

Trial runs were made last year SEPT, and same issues with the A1010 Motorola when 3 network AP sets were used. The programming INSIDE of it. Best go for the UK Version because it works fine under O2-BT backend, which is also configured for Vodafone Networks…which TM is a part of.

Don’t forget , the prices in US are SUBSIDISED, so you have to get the real price of it. I gave up my iPhone for a seperate 3G PDA phone and a 80GB Video IPOD instead..which I picked up cheaply in SG.

    Best Regards

    Azrin @ http://www.azrin.net

PS: Running an update on yr iPhone MAY DISABLE the SIMFREE..means it will lock back as it’s HARDWARE LOCK, and if the original Simcard is blocked .. then the IMEI will also be blocked. A friend of mine got the issue with US and Eu sets.

    Wait for the Singapore SET…safer.

  34. david:
The thai language thing is just weird and probably something Apple missed.

    azrin:
Sad to say, where there’s a market there’s a demand. Irregardless of its incomplete support and its price. So to speak, there are a large number of iPhone users at the moment. From normal consumers to the high-end Datuks even.

By the time it gets here, many current iPhone users may sell their iPhones to other would be purchases in order to upgrade to the rumoured 3G version later. Though it’s just but a rumour.

As for the locking, for every new firmware it’ll always be locked again. And again, it’ll be unlocked by someone. But yes, all safe buyers of the Apple iPhone can do now is…wait. :)

  35. hi danny,

Glad to found your website. Today I just bought my new iphone (8G) in US (my birthday present from hubby but i bought it myself hahhaha). How can I use it in Malaysia? I am using a Celcom line, I believe I need to subscribe to GRPS right? I’ll be back in Malaysia on 3/12/07 and wish to go straight to the shop that can unhack it somewhere around KL/ PJ. Can you recommend one? How long does it take to do that? What are the do’s and the dont’s that i need to adhere now? so far my iphone is still intact in the box :). I also don’t know how to check my firmware version as you mentioned in earlier postings. Appreciate your advice.

    Thank you
    DoK

  36. Hey duchess,

So you must have a virgin iPhone at the moment. :)

You’ll only need to setup the GPRS if you want to Internet surf or email without Wi-Fi or EDGE.

My iPhone reseller could help you with the unlocking. It’ll cost you a couple of hundred (lower than RM500 – I think) because he’ll install the iPhoneSimFree (IPSF) unlocking license for you. It’ll only take him approximately 30-45 minutes to do it. You can get in touch with him at sales [at] maximiphone.com Just let him know you were referred from my blog. :)

There isn’t much do’s and dont’s since your iPhone is still fresh out of the box. The only dont’s I’d suppose is don’t upgrade your firmware unless you know how to hack it again.

This is the easiest method to find out what firmware you’re running if it’s a virgin iPhone:

    – Turn on the phone and slide to unlock the keypad. iPhone screen should show that only emergency calls is allowed.
    – Enter the following key sequence: *3001#12345#* and then finish by pressing Call button.
    – Tap on Versions.
    – The firmware revision information of the Apple iPhone installed out of the box will be shown on the LCD screen.

Based on your Apple iPhone firmware revision information, use the reference below to tell what is your firmware:
    * 03.12.06_G – firmware version 1.0.0
    * 03.14.08_G – firmware version 1.0.1 or 1.02
    * 04.01.13_G – firmware version 1.1.1

I look forward in meeting you. Maybe I’ll tag along with my reseller when he meets you later. :D

  37. Hey Danny…I’m in love with this iphone..I went to sogo last night and came across an iphone being sold there…I had a look at it & even tried it…I don;t know if it’s already unlocked & ready to use…But when i tried inserting my Digi simcard it couldn’t even search for Digi signal…Same thing happened when i tried my Celcom…So may i know what seems to be the problem???

And as for the music syncing…i read somewhere online saying that you can only sync the playlist not the mp3 or acc files…So what does it mean actually???…Does it mean you can’t create new playlist using iphone itself???…That you can only create the playlist using itunes on your computer & sync it to your iphone before you can listen to the music with your iphone???…I’m kinda confused …

By the way, is the iphone still available in your stock???…Because should i decicde to buy i might buy it from you…

  38. Ariffin, when you powered on the iPhone, what did you see?

Was it an emergency message thing or was there all the iPhone icons displayed but it just couldn’t get a signal?

As for the playlist, AFAIK you will need iTunes to create them. And using iTunes to create your playlist would be much more convenient. The iPhone playlist is syned with the one you create in iTunes. In iTunes you may decide which playlists you want to sync with the iPhone too.

As for the availability of the iPhone, I’ll email you regarding this. :)

  39. Danny…

When i switched on the power button, all the icons were displayed & yeah it just couldn’t get the signal…At forst i thought that maybe it was because there was no signal in the building but it couldn’t be because i could use my digi & celcom when i use them with my current phones…And even the salesman couldn’t give me any logical explaination at all…I was pretty disappointed…The price is pretty expensive too…They are selling it at RM2888…

Another question…I heard my cousin who is in UK say that transferring other files from iphone to computer cannot be done unless you have apple ibook or imac…For example the photos that you took using iphone camera…There is no way that you can transfer any of them if you’re using a non-macintosh computers like windows xp or vista…Is that true???

  40. I don’t think it’s your simcard. It could be how it was unlocked or probably even the firmware it’s running. Version 1.1.2 so far hasn’t been very stable after unlocking.

Did the salesman even try his own simcard to show you it works?

As for your cousin, you could tell him that is not true.

Whenever I plug my iPhone into Windows, the device detection box pops up with options to select on how I want to manage the device. You could either select the built-in use Image transfer wizrad or just click Cancel. Then navigate to My Computer > Click iPhone and you’ll see your image files. :)

What I learnt about managing photos with the iPhone is that even if you deleted from iTunes, it doesn’t remove from your iPhone therefore you need manually do the My Computer thing to delete the image files.

  41. Hi Danny,

Found your site from google search. I am interested in buying an iPhone from KL. Can I have some information reagrding the current status of iPhone that I should be looking for now?

I have so many questions but I do not know which one to ask first. Read about iPhone until 3am. Got to go bed.

    Regards,
    OneEyeSleepy

  42. Hey OneEye,

Shoot your questions across and I’ll do my best to answer most if not all of them. :)

Or you could even use my contact form to email me personally as that’s what some other buyers did.

    Regards.

  43. Hey Danny..

Went lowyat & sg. wang that day…no more stock ! So went to Subang ss15 there, got it for RM2,777 version 1.1.2 ( unlocked wif turbo Sim )…Everything is working & sum of applications also can be use…Bad thing iphone doesn’t have is that i can’t send ringstones or photos to my frens’ handphone….u know any application which can do this blutooth thing other than using it to sent wif mail in iphone ?

These are the applications that i installed in my iphone now is this :-

    a. Community resources
    b. iApp-a-Day
    c. BSD subsystem
    d. Installer
    e. Summerboard
    f. Customize
    g. Sendsong

Kindly scary at first when i see them cutting a few holes with my digi simcard to insert the turbosim….BUt i feel like RM2,777 is pretty high, dun u think so danny ?

I asked the apple store sales person, they told me that apple iphone is launching next year 1st quarter…Price not confirm, but i feel its goin to be around RM1,900 to 2,300 ??? ( just a quess)

So did MaximiPhone people find the way to unlocked it yet ? why not they try Turbosim instead ? Isn’t it great not to hack the Iphone but just add the turbosim so it won’t effect my phones’ warranty ?

Well Danny, so far so good using Turbosim, hope there’s no problem with it.

  44. Hey Adrian,

When you say some applications, which are the ones not working?

As for the bluetooth-ing across files, I think we’re going to have to wait for a 3rd party app to do that later. I don’t think Apple wants people suing them for allowing hackers to hijack people’s phone or important information in it.

RM2,777 sounds alright but if you unlocked it yourself and got TurboSim on your own then it might have saved you money. If you want them to service you, then you shouldn’t be worried about the cost overall.

I’m not a fan of plugging a ‘foreign’ thing into my iPhone so I’m still waiting on IPSF. :P

  45. iPhoneSimFree (www.iphonesimfree.com) is a paid solution to jailbreak and activate your iPhone.

And apparently, a simple Google search brought me back to their website. On November 20, 2007, they’ve come up with a solution yet again to jailbreak and unlock the 1.1.2!

Hmm…gonna go talk to my reseller. :P

  46. I just got myself a brand new iPhone from US for $399, untouched. I suppose it’s the latest version, seeing how I only bought it yesterday? It’s not even out of the box yet! I wish to unlock it, but after reading all the posts, I wonder what is the best option? And also how much it’ll cost me to unlock it?

  47. Emily, the only current difference is the support from either open source or paid solutions. Open source would mean you’re on your own and if problems occur, you find a solution from the community. A paid solution will offer support from the reseller directly.

As for the price in unlocking…open source is free and a paid solution, well…ranges from RM300 (more or less). If you want a cost effective solution, my reseller currently has an option for you. :)

  48. Oh, that’s good to hear. How much would it be for me to get it unlocked from your reseller? Does this mean that any problems that should appear will be handled by them in the future?
I made a trip to low yat today, and they told me that they could unlock it, but I have to get something called the turbosim? Is that it?

  49. Hi Danny,

I have the same problem with Xander stated in the Respone#32 whereby i have the problem to download the mp3 and movie to the iPhone. I got my unlocked iPhone from my sister as a gift for christmas and it run on 1.1.1. I have try the ibrick but it only support 1.0.2. Kindly help in this case how to transfer the mp3 and movie from my PC to iphone.

  50. Dear Xander and Augi,

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY TO FIND THE ANSWERS YOU SEEK. Both your problems relate to uploading certain media files into your phone with iBrickr, as well as synchronizing your phones with iTunes. These are the answers for your questions.

Xander, I estimate that the time of your question was during the early period of the 1.1.1 launch, while it was still NOT unlockable, Thus, the answer to your first question regarding pricing is simply because the 1.0.2 phones were the only soft-unlockable units at the time before the iPhone Dev Team broke 1.1.1, thus the demand and market value for 1.0.2 were much higher. Now. as for your iTunes sync isues, fret not, what you faced was absolutely normal. iTunes versions prior to 7.4 were not built with the iTunesMobileDevice.dll that worked with the iPhone and iPod Touch for that matter. AS of now, all iPhones and iTouches are 100% guranteed to work flawlessly on iTunes 7.4.3, the version before 7.5. There has never been a ‘locking’ or ‘bricking’ risk with running a 1.0.2 phone with iTunes 7.4. Only in 7.5, did Apple introduce several new interface protocols for the iPhone which were reported to have negative effects on interactivity between 1.1.1 and before iPhones.

Secondly, I hope you understood that back then when you posted your question, and even till today, iBrickr only works on 1.0.2 iPhones. Also, the scenario where the files you attempted to upload appeared in the iBrickr folder is normal and supposed to happen, and is not a problem caused by the “iTunesHelper.exe” process. The problem you were suffering from was a missing step when jailbreaking the 1.0.2 iPhone back then. For iBrickr to be able to upload ringtones, files and applications into the iPhone, it is a mandatory procedure where the iPhone has to be jailbroken and unlocked by iBrickr prior to that as well. Assuming that the phone was most probably jailbroken and unlocked using the manual Command Prompt method, the missing piece of the puzzle here which caused your uploaded items to not appear was iBrickr’s PXL Package Management. This is the main feature iBrickr uses to manage, handle and install various files and applications in the iPhone. Thus, without using iBrickr to jailbreak and unlock the phone, the PXL management is absent which then causes iBrickr to not be able to handle the iPhone’s file directories.

Augi, your situation is merely similiar to Xander’s file upload problem, due to the fact that your phone is running 1.1.1. While iBrickr is able to manage Applications, Sounds, Files and Ringtones within an iPhone running 1.0.2, this is reduced to only file management for 1.1.1, meaning the other 3 features no longer operate for 1.1.1 iPhones. However, you seem to have intentions of adding music and movie, AKA media files to your phone. For this purpose, iBrickr has, and was NEVER the application for this. Instead, adding media files to an iPhone is only done by synchronizing the iPhone with iTunes. If you are uncertain what iTunes is, it’s basically Apple’s flagship media library and player on both Macs and PCs, as well as the SOLE application meant for managing media in iPods and the iPhone alike. What you need to do is to download and install iTunes 7.4.3, then add/import all your songs and movies into the iTunes library, which will then be synchronized as an exact carbon copy into your iPhone. Simply said, you need to use iTunes for adding media files, NOT iBrickr.

Well, I guess that about wraps up ALL the answers to both your questions in explicit detail, gentlemen. If you still face any problems after these stages, don’t hesitate to ask for more assistance here. I’ll do what I can to assist our dear Danny here in answering your questions. Good luck, guys! ;)

  51. Thanks, Timothy. Albeit it being a complete mouthful, now I’m thinking if I need a wider comment area. LOL!

Anyway, I’m sure that should solve Xander and Augi’s queries. :)

Oh yeah, Tim is the first person I showed the iPhone too when I first got it from MAXIMiphone. You can find a picture of him and his brothers in Day 1.

  52. Don’t mention it, Danny. Just doing what I can to help ;) I still owe it to you for coming over giving me my first literal “hands-on” experience of the phone.

James, getting the invisibleSHIELD is a GREAT idea compared to using pouches and cases, as it has the least effect on the phone’s rear aluminium plate’s heat dissapation. Besides that, you also get complete protection to the phone’s entire body without compromising the aesthetics of the phone. And of course, as all the reviews and videos around demonstrate, your phone becomes completely invulnerable to scratches and stains.

I strongly suggest getting full body skins instead of screen protectors alone, especially since these range of skins are designed with really durable materials and are worth the investment. For full body skins, there are a couple of options you can choose from. invisibleSHIELDs by Shieldzone are among them, then there is also BestSkinsEver and Bodyguardz, each with their own unique differences. For instance, BestSkinsEver’s iPhone Full Body Skins are the CHEAPEST among the 3, only that they don’t come with the application solution required to apply them. invisibleSHIELD on the other hand DOES come with a tube of application solution and sleeker packaging, and costs slightly more. Last of all, Bodyguardz are the premium variation of all 3, and costs the most. However, the little extra you’re paying gets you 2 pairs of skins unlike the first 2, also complete box packaging, and best of all a complete series of videos with demos of the application process and some useful tips.

All in all, the only difference between these 3 most common brandings are their prices and contents. Other than that, all 3 skins are built with the same material which is said to be used my the US Military to protect helicopter blades, unlike the usual RM10-RM20 protectors. A small note though, most reviews I have seen so far indicate that the ONE leverage than Bodyguardz skins have compared to BSE and invisibleSHIELDs, is a more smooth and transparent texture, which translates into better invisibility compared to the latter which are said to show mild dimples in the film when viewed from a certain angle. Prices wise :

BestSkinsEver Full Body : RM34 (Available on Lowyat.NET Bulk Order)
ShieldZone invisibleSHIELD : RM80+ (Available on Lowyat.NET Bulk Order)
NLU Products Bodyguardz : $25 + International Shipping from US etc. (No Local Orders at the moment)

    Hope that helps, mate! :)

  53. The thing is.. Invincibleshield can’t be remove.. And I’m worried that if its easy to setup… If its out of place and its permanent my iPhone would be messed up.. Are there anyone who tried the shield?

  54. Oh by the way.. I’m using a belkin crystal case for my iphone now… But dust kept on coming into the edges of by iPhone and the fingger prints
marks of my iPhone is kinda anoying…

  55. It’s not permanent in the sense that it won’t be able to come off your gadget(s). The phrase ‘permanent’ here refers to the fact that these protectors have to be applied right during the first trial, while the application solution hasn’t dried out and the protector hasn’t fixed onto the phone’s body.

With that being said, basically once it has settled in, the position is permanent and cannot be altered after that. It can still come off without leaving any marks or adhesive on the phone, just that the protector will have to be tugged hard and stretched to be removed, which will render the protector useless after removal. Anyhow, it was designed as a one-time use only item in the first place, so this is nothing to fret about.

As for the installation process, it’s easy as long as you do as the instructions dictate, and have it aligned and positioned just the way you want it to be in before it starts to dry. That simple. It takes about 10-15 minutes for the solution to start drying, so it should be sufficient time for you to position it perfectly.

  56. I have used both of the Invisible Shield protectors — the screen only, and the full body.

I didnt like the full body screens. They are really clumsy and the edges dont stick too well. In the end I threw it out.

The screen shields are better but do note that it reduces the sensitivity of the screen to the touch bec the plastic is rather thick. In the end I also threw out the shield for the iPhone. I do use their products on other screens that are not touch screens like my camera LCD screen etc. and they protect the glass quite well.

The iPhone glass is already treated to be scratch resistant and i have used it without protection and have not been getting scratches.

However, I do use a case for it… And find that it protects the iPhone better:

  57. Hey..
My Apollo and Mail app can’t work anymore.. :(
It was all fine till yesterday….
Apollo says cant connect.. authentication error….
Mail app says cant connect to izymail…
I try restoring the settings… And it worked but only 1 time.. after that it stop working again….

I was thinking about restoring my iphone n re-unlock it again..
But is there any side effects for restoring n unlocking the iphone too many times?

So far i have restore it once n re-unlock it again….

  58. James:
I rarely use Apollo and have found it unstable. There are a number of times while using it hangs on me. As for Mail, I’ve not experienced any problems thus far. As for the multiple restoring and unlocking affects, I’ve not come across any.

  59. I restored my phone and encounter the same problem as last time…
After jailbreakme.. iphone wont auto rebot …
Crap… Hope it turns out fine…

  60. After restoring a few times…. I manage to activate it :)
Now I’m thinking if i should stay at 1.1.1 or 1.1.2

  61. Aiyaarrr….I’m so clever….i upgraded my iPhone to version 1.1.3 !!!!! Damn , now my iPhone is LOCKED !!!! Have to wait till somebody find a way to unlock it again…..What was i Thinking !!???? Now my itunes is on 7.6 version, can’t downgrade & install back to 7.5 also…( apple very smart now )…
So u guys out there don’t upgrade anything with itunes’ version or etc…

Danny, wat you think about version 1.1.3 ? & the SDK they are talking about coming on FEb ??

  62. Well, I’ve not even upgraded to 1.1.2 yet. LOL!

As for 1.1.3, I most likely might upgrade later. I want to test out the interface changes and who knows what other additional stuff Apple might throw in later.

Though I’m wondering how 1.1.3 will affect Turbosim users.

  63. hello there..is anyone there knows which Sim (Turbo Sim..PSS Sim..Next Sim..Whatever Sim..Blah Blah Sim) is the best Sim to use with Iphone Firmware 1.1.2.? Any Idea? Thanks

  64. Hi Danny,

I am a Malaysian living in New York. Will be back on Feb 1st. I have an unlocked iPhone and am bringing it back to use. I guess based on above comments, I have to get Celcom sim, right? I haven’t been back to Malaysia for 2 years and I have several questions and was wondering if you could help out.

    1. Can I get prepay sim like I did a couple of years ago in Malaysia to use with my iPhone?
    2. Will I be able to receive emails without Wifi? And how? This is important for me.
    3. I am thinking of selling my iPhone when I leave after 3 weeks. Is it very popular and is it easy to sell?

    Thanks

  65. New York…cool. Dropped into Ikea to see Mark yet? :P

    0. Nope, you not necessarily need to use Celcom. You could use Maxis now too.

    1. Yes, you can but you’ll need to unlock the iPhone (if it wasn’t done before).

    2. You can do this by subscribing to EDGE. Maxis doesn’t have this for prepaid but I know DiGi does. (http://www.digi.com.my/data_services/gprs/datagprs_charges.do?page=pre)

    3. Yes, it’s very easy to sell here as long it’s unlocked. :)

What firmware are you running on at the moment? If you’re on 1.1.2 and hasn’t been jailbroken, you may need to purchase Turbosim or something alike.

Anyway, if you don’t want muck around with the unlock and jailbreak yourself I could put you in touch with my reseller. :)

  66. Thanks for your quick reply. Who is Mark from IKEA? I didn’t get that or perhaps I missed it somewhere in your forum.

My iPhone is already unlocked and it was from a 1.1.2. Using a turbosim or something, not sure. Friend did it for me. It’s brand new and I didn’t even use it yet.

I am actually using another iPhone 1.1.3 with AT&T as my regular phone. I bought another one just for this trip for email, call and wifi purposes. And after I am done with it in 3 weeks, perhaps you can take it off my hands at a decent price. Let me know. And should I bring the original packaging back too?

So, according to you, I should go with DIGI. That’s fine with me. You think I can go into any stores in KL and they will be able to set me up with EDGE too? Or should I go to someone you recommend? I will be staying near Jalan Ipoh (near The Mall).

I also read in some earlier posts that there are problems receiving calls from other carriers and so on…. I am assuming that was solved by now, right? If there is still problems with using iPhone, please let me know so I can bring another phone to use. I really need to access emails and make/receive calls for this matter.

Lastly, I can bring another 1 or 2 phones back if you are interested. I am not looking to make any money, just returning a favor to you for all the information.

    Thanks.

  67. Jaryl, meet Mark (www.marklivesinikea.com). :P

Most products sell better with its original packaging. As for the extra iPhone you’re bringing down, if it’s 1.1.3 it’ll be a little more challenging to sell. But I’ll talk to you privately about that.

To register a prepaid DiGi and activate EDGE, you could pretty much walk to any handphone selling shop to do so. If you want to be safe, walk into your nearest DiGi reseller or authorized service centre. Most important is to activate EDGE and to input the settings in your iPhone later.

And yes, the telco problems have been resolved. So far there haven’t been complaints…or minuscule.

The offer sounds very tempting, I’ll email you personally regarding this. :)

  68. Hello there,

I was thinking of buying an iPhone over in the States and bring it over here to unlock, but I am worried that I may not be able to unlock it, seeing as the firmware is 1.1.3…should I look around for the 1.1.2 version? Or get the phone first and sit around waiting for an unlocker?

Also, where can I get this turbosim thingy? Thanks.

  69. I think in the States, they are still selling off 1.1.2 until stock is gone. I am not sure but there are ways to tell from the serial # whether it is 1.2 or 1.3. You have to research on your own. The serial # somehow tells you what production week it is and that should tell you what version is in it.

I got my X-Sim from a local guy in NY. It’s similar to Turbosim I guess. They have it online too I believe.

  70. Nick:
Buy a 1.1.2, unlock then purchase Turbosim. There’s still no updated news on the successful stable unlocking 1.1.3 as of yet. You could either purchase Turbosim online or my reseller. :)

    Jaryl:
There are a number of *sims online. Some maybe just took Turbosim and rebranded. But all of them are to produce the same solution.

And unless the salesperson let’s you pull out all of the units they have in the store, you may be able to find a 1.1.2. LOL!

  71. Danny:
How much is your reseller charging for the Turbosim? Additionally, if I do get a 1.1.3 phone, is it possible to flash it back to 1.1.2 then use turbosim to unlock it? What if there is a stable 1.1.3 unlocking for Turbosim say in 3 months time? Must I pay more money to upgrade it again then?

  72. Nick, I’ll email you the reseller contact in a bit. As for the downgrading from 1.1.3, it may be a problem because the firmware changes your baseband. I had one iPhone owner noted to me he could downgrade and unlock but the iPhone was still rendered unusable due to the baseband.

You won’t have to pay for the upgrade but if you want the reseller to unlock it for you, he’ll charge a servicing fee. :)

  73. Hi Danny,

I just got two phones from the states. They both have the 04.02.13_G firmware, I guess this is the 1.1.2 version? Can your reseller unlock this for me?

    Nick

  74. Hey Danny,

Just wanted to say thanks for the information. I unlocked my phone yesterday. Just a quick question, how do I get iTunes to play DIVX/AVI movies? I wanna see them on my phone. Thanks.

  75. Nick, I normally use Handbrake for Mac OS X to get my movies then I’ll use iTunes to sync the movies in. The requirements for putting videos into the iPhone is either in .mp4 or .m4v.

That’s the video standard to run it on the iPhone. It doesn’t support DivX/AVI files directly.

  76. I’ve not seen this but I’ve read the comments. It still has problems with certain versions based on the commenters left behind. I would only recommend something like this to a person who’s experience or is brave enough to fiddle with the iPhone internal system folders.

If you’d loan me a spare iPhone, I’d be more than happy to try it and blog about it. :)

p.s: Deleted the repeated comment you left in the other post.

  77. hello…

so.. the verdict >>> iphone or lg viewty anyone?

am so confuse now… please gimme some light…

    thanks

  78. both have its fair share of pros & cons but i’d go for iphone. i like the idea that it is developed in a volatile platform which i would expect more new features being built for it..

  79. thank you. err.. another 1 second last question… do i have to change to other telco? coz i’m using maxis and i travel out of kl quite often.

if there is no reception, it’s just another ‘canggih’ version of a gameboy and i better use nokia 3310.

  80. Maxis has already solved the problem with its support for the iPhone. Albeit existing reports of users regarding drop calls. I’ve noticed every iPhone user experiences different things but the majority of them are fine.

The one thing you should be worrying more about is the support. LG has a service center whilst there isn’t one for the iPhone. The only support you can get for the iPhone is via online communities or from the reseller you bought it.

If you want to be really safe, go with LG. If you don’t mind having something ‘canggih’ and experiencing something new, get the iPhone. :)

  81. thank you for ur swift response. i guess with u guys around – kindda support team, better than other establishments with customer service officers. i would be buying iphone then. (u hear that apple!…)

.. can the panoramic style picture capturing software be installed? i use it a lot for work.

  82. I’m afraid you can’t, Omar. And at the moment, there isn’t a 3rd party app which allows you to snap photos in panaromic view with the iPhone.

I’ve found guy online who takes the photos using the iPhone and then uses another software installed in his computer to stitch them together. p0ps flickr set (http://tinyurl.com/ywdn33)

  83. Hmm..turbo sim costs about RM300 I was told. I’ve tested the software unlock & the steps work because I was helping friends to unlock their iPhones. Without the detail steps it’d have been impossible.

P.S. Comment was sent from my friend’s iPhone which I’ll have to return to the owner soon :(

  84. Good on you, Kapil. Will await the good news when you’ve got it working. :)

Well, I did try following iClarified’s Out-of-The-Box (OTB) 1.1.2 tutorial but a little goof up from my side made me panic thinking I ‘bricked’ my iPhone. However, my reseller helped me out in about 30 minutes out of the situation.

And since I’m on iPhoneSimFree (IPSF) it seems I don’t need Turbosim for my iPhone right which is on 1.1.2. :D

  85. Right, the unlocking steps could be reapplied when your initial attempt failed..

Does anyone know the local $ for a 16Gb unit yet?

  86. Urm…are the 16GB already selling in US? I thought it was announced only not too long ago? Nonetheless, I think we’ll see them being brought in later on.

  87. I am taking delivery of two 16g iPhones this week.
I’ll let you know how the unlock goes.

I did unlock an OOB ver 1.1.3 8G phone last week using the ZiPhone method.
    Piece of cake…

    Patrick

  88. Nice going Patrick..

I’m more interested in the 16GB bcos I bumped into the disk space low message a few times while helping to unlock a few 8GB version (4 units to date) although iTunes reported about 2-3GB free..of course this is after synching my CD collections, TV shows & podcasts via iTunes.

I like the cover flow in iPod..luckily found a method to get it using the redeem option in iTunes..with it I was able to get album artwork & quite a number of podcasts..but they are meant to be free anyway..

  89. If I had the 16GB capacity, it’ll only be filled with videos. ROFL! I’m now only downloading a select few of my songs into my iPhone. Now can’t imagine, whole series of Heroes Season 2 in my iPhone. LOL!

  90. I received two 16g iPhones today.

I jailbreaked, activated and unlocked it in less than 5 minutes each using ZiPhone 2.4 (using DOS and parameter -a -j -u)

Did not need to downgrade the baseband.

    Wifi, Youtube all works great.

Better get it before the 1.1.4 firmware comes out next month and the phones are unlockable again…

    Patrick

  91. Urm, news I found dated February 18 said the 1.1.4 ‘leak’ is/may actually be a ruse and hasn’t been confirmed as of yet. Just like how a friend of mine who recently bought his 8GB said the new 16GB are shipping with 2.0 now.

    Rumors…they’re just rumors. :P

  92. Well, I can tell you for a fact that the two 16g iPhones I received this week were with firmware 1.1.3 and were unlockable using ZiPhone.

  93. hi.. zidni here. i know i can get iPhones. Anyone interested? Direct link with the guys in the US.

Danny said; “I don’t permit advertising here however, I edited out the price therefore any business conducted between you and anyone who reads my blog is deem done at their own risk and I can/will not be held responsible.”

  94. Patrick:
    Thanks for the sharing.

    zidni:
While I’ve the right to delete your post given you’re advertising here, I’ve only edited out the price. Plus, I’m sorry to hear whatever happened at your blog made you stop blogging.

  95. No problem. I’ll be toying with mine in a day or two. Can’t wait!

Nahh… no issue with the blogging. Just a hiccup while I get back on my feet. The thing that happened to me was even more of concern… i was hospitalized for a while, duodernal ulcer and all. Now still recovering.

By the way.. great blogs, muh man. Great design too. Like they always say on simplicity – less is more. Wish I can join/startup/be part of a web development too one day.

    Cheers.

  96. I’m sorry to hear that you had to be hospitalized, zidni.

Anyway, I’m glad you like what I’ve been writing and the blog itself. Though I won’t claim it as my own.

  97. The last time I tried upgrading to 1.1.3 using iClarified I ran into a minor problem so I thought of sticking it out on 1.1.2 after my reseller helped me recover the phone.

I’ve read the comments on the post and it seems some are experiencing problems whereas some lucky ones have no qualms. As for the updates in 1.1.4, there hasn’t been any report of significant changes. More like minor fixes.

Before I try to upgrade, I gotta ask my reseller if ZiPhone may clash with my IPSF first. Though I’m sure he’ll say; “just try it…”. LOL!

  98. Looks like your problem is with the incompatibility with Iphonesimfree.
    See this thread:
    http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=31620

If people unlocked with AnySim, they can upgrade to 1.1.3 using the instructions in that thread. Earlier versions of AnySim will require the additional step of virginizing the phone.

BTW, if any of you have problems with SMS timestamp or out of sequence, read this:

    Issue or symptom

When sending or receiving text messages on the iPhone, the SMS messages may be displayed out of sequence.
    Products affected

    * iPhone

    Solution

This can occur if the iPhone is not displaying the same date and time setting as the carrier network time.

Make sure iPhone is setup to receive the network time. Choose General > Date & Time and turn Set Automatically to ON. (Note that in some locations, network time may not be available and in some cases, you may not see this option).

If the issue continues after turning this setting on, the issue may be occurring because messages are being sent in quick succession (more common if the messages consist of only a few short words).

This document will be updated as more information becomes available

  99. I don’t see IPSF being mentioned in that thread. Unless you’re trying to say AnySIM is IPSF or a pirated copy of IPSF or something.

Anyway, I’m quite happy on 1.1.2 right now. Probably will upgrade when I have nothing better to do or am too free. :P

  100. Danny

It is buried deep in the link…

    But here is the text:
    ========================================

Yes, AnySIM patches the your Baseband and therefore can not survive BB upgrade, and that is why we have AnySim 1,1; AnySIM 1.2u(p), AnySIM 1.3 … etc … but since bootlaoder which is responsible for uploading/upgrading baseband dedects that there is NO UPGRADE eg. 1.1.2 on 1.1.2 on 4.02.BB AnySIM maye survive, hence IPSF, yes it is update resistant since its patches your SECZONE (therefore after performing first and only IPSF style unlock (GeoHot IPSF) you need to backup your ipsf folder (multiple backups) in order to retrive your original SECZONE, and for that, you sholud check this thread :

  101. Wow, just to upgrade we have to really virgin the phone. This really spells troublesome for me but if I ever did wanted to upgrade, I could always go back to my reseller later. So I’ll leave this for the very adventurous or without support iPhone users in Malaysia.

  102. so now who has iPhone 16GB to sell and what price?

Official iPhone will be in Singapore this Sept and when will for Malaysia? Anyone know?

  103. Dear Steve,

The 16GB iPhones are available directly from Apple Stores US for $499 if you can make the trip, or if you choose to purchase them from local traders you should be looking at approximately RM2.3k, varying with each seller. Lookup the phrase ‘iPhone’ in Lelong, eBay Malaysia or the Lowyat.NET forums and take your time browsing through the hundreds of available sales.

Now, as for the question regarding the launch and official localization of the iPhone in Malaysia, there are still no signs of ANY possible contracts with local telcos, leaving us with an indefinite waiting period. The closest local rumours relating to the iPhone are the failed attempts of negotiations between all 3 of the major local mobile telcos with Apple Inc. Having said that, there is no answer to your question at the moment. There are also a good number of people waiting for the same question to be answered. It’s just the waiting game now… ;) Hope that helps!

    Sincerely,
    Timothy

  104. Hey,
I’m from Australia and my parents are going down to Malaysia, Kuala lumpur for shopping. Do any of you guys happen to know what shops I can buy the iPhone from? And do you guys know what the current price on the Malaysian market is for the iPhone?

  105. I’d not advice purchasing it from a shop in Kuala Lumpur. Because the iPhone hasn’t been officially released in Malaysia, buying from a shop now is still a little more expensive or worst scenario has a problem of support when you get it. Vendors here aren’t exactly all Internet driven.

Anyway, I’ll email you personally on what I’d suggest doing. :)

  106. hello danny,
Was going through the responses. Amazing support and response from you. Good job!!!

I would like to buy an iPhone now. What is your suggestion. Do I wait till June, where a lot of them waiting for apple to come out with some more information on their 3g support or as one of the recent responses say “or wait for 2.0 due out in June..that’s when iPhone becomes enterprise”.

Well if you suggest I go ahead and buy one, then could you let me know where i could get one from (a reliable source who could be more helpful in helping me own one)…

    markand

  107. Just bought 16GB iPhone for RM2300 from Low Yat. After 3 days of using it, man, is the iPhone awesome or is it awesome. At the risk of sounding like Steve Jobs’ macai, I suggest you guys and girls go get this phone simply for the boasting right you are gonna have hahaha

  108. markand:
Well…for Apple products there’s always a ton of speculation. Therefore, its release date may or may not be true. However, if you’re a patient person then just wait it out till June. Time isn’t ticking as slow as it used to.

    nik:
Congrats and welcome to the club. As for the boasting, I might be leaving it soon. Hmm….

  109. May use this formula as a guide..

    8GB: 399 x 3.2 = RM1276 add about RM400 = RM1676

    16GB: 499 x 3.2 = RM1596 add another RM400 = RM1996

    P.S. RM400 may vary….

  110. Hey,

Parents came back from Malaysia a few days ago, and they didn’t come back with a iPhone (yes very sad).
They did end up going LowYat plaza (said it was an awesome plaza, one of a kind) and the iPhones that they sold were only in Malayan.
Well so i went on Ebay and bought one for 600 AUD, now i just have to wait.

    Cheers.

  111. Huh, there’s Malay language in iPhone without others – English? I don’t even think there’s Malay in current iPhone. the up coming iPhone 2.0 software supports many languages including Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, etc. After all, I have limited knowledge about iPhone cuz I don’t own one now neither do I read iPhone news so often. Maybe someone else can verify that.

  112. Sheraan:
Urm, I’ve not come across any iPhone thus far in the Malay language. Forgive me for saying this but are you sure your parents really saw an iPhone or someone was trying to sell them a device which had the iPhone interface though it was not an Apple device?

    Chris:
I had to edit your name because it was weird seeing the commenter’s name and yours the same. Like I was replying to a ghost. Anyway, you are right. I, myself haven’t seen a BM version for the iPhone.

  113. Hmm really. Well they did go lowYat and inquired about the iPhone. They must have gotten confused with something else.

  114. Hello,

I found a brand new iphone unlocked for just RM1400, is it worth it? I was told no warranty given and bear the risk my own, not feeling comfortable with it… what do you think? Thanks.

    Octagonal

  115. Let Danny introduce you his reseller. With a small fee, he is willing to provide you help and assistant to all your questions and software upgrade issues regarding the iPhone. He is quite a nice man to chat with too.

  116. Good day all.

With just RM1400, I am willing to take to risk of buying a unlocked 8GB iphone w/o warranty. Gonna have it soon :)

    Octogonal

  117. Possibly. But I can’t be held responsible for any loss or whatsoever if anyone wishes to purchase from there. I sure don’t know them.

  118. with addition of 10 new features coming to the iphone, 8Gb doesn’t seem to be enough…it’d be obsolete by then IMO.

  119. So after all these talk…..when is Iphone coming to malaysia?? any news??
by the way, just a note that APPLE is not providing repair if your phone goes faulty…they need to ensure u are AT&T subsriber before attending to it….use at own risk,…

  120. Sorry, no news yet..our market share in Apple’s view i guess is not that attractive as compared to others like Singapore, India, the Philippines and Australia even Hong Kong.

Deals between Apple and the local telcos are kept at low profile so your guess is as good as anyone else’s.

  121. Hi, im getting 3 unit soon straight from london. a friend is satying over there.. for like 169 Pound.. and after converison blabla might be like 1050 or more.

  122. Hi Guys,

iPhone 3G launched. Sad to know that Steeve Jobs hasnt got any plans of making the phone available in the malaysian market yet. Wat abt you guys? When do you think you could jailbreak or unlock the new iPhone??

Sadly the iPhone 3g does not support video calls.

  123. so guys,
after go thru all….its confirm we wont get it in malaysia. my question is only one. can i use it in malaysia if i buy it form US. what are the problems will i face – any solution for that problems?

  124. joy:
I don’t know about McIntosh Office but I know about Microsoft Office for the Macintosh.

  125. hi danny, where can i buy an iphone? can u et it forr me?
i already search but out of stock. reallllly need one

  126. hi danny, can u share with me where i can purchase iphone 3G in malaysia ? Appreciate if you can email me the location & price. Thanks.

  127. Everyone’s still working on trying to get the 3G version in. However, the stability of the previous model in terms of calls have been solved – I think.

  128. hey danny.. im interested in getting one……could u mail me d details please… wat is the current price now??

  129. No idea, Ali. It’s not officially here yet.

But based on the article written by Timothy recently titled; Singtel Brings iPhone 3G to Singapore, we could expect it to start RM1500-2000 – if we’re lucky. That’s for the 8GB version. Probably expect to pay RM2500 and higher for the 16GB version. :)

  130. I need to purchase 1 unit of iPhone/8GB but I don’t know where to get it in K.L. Can you help to advice.

    Thanks.

  132. Liz:
The iPhone 3G 8GB is being by my reseller at RM3200, the 16GB is RM3500. Currently the 8GB is having a bundle offer, you’d be very much interested in that. ;) http://tinyurl.com/3wfsvo

    Ming:
The only ones I can get are refurbished one from the reseller. That’s if he still has them.
