MPH Distributors Warehouse Sale Disappointment

Today I visited the MPH Distributors Warehouse Sale in Jalan Bersatu, Petaling Jaya. The last time I attended an MPH sale it was hosted at the MBPJ Kelana Jaya sports complex. The sale was great because there wasn’t only great book titles at very very very affordable prices but MPH arranged a special preview day for their loyal customers.

Alas today was a huge disappointment for me at the MPH Distributors Warehouse Sale. The prices were still relatively high, the variety was very minimal, no available parking area and the worst of all no doubt in comparison to the above, I was duped in believing there was an arranged special preview day like the last time.

So what’s so about having more people at the sale? It’s not the number of people but the expectation of customers like myself who thought we’d be very important to MPH and they’d follow their word when they said their newsletter informing us of the sale.

In the newsletter together with the location map, it stated clearly there’d be a special preview day for MPH Readers’ Circle (MRC) or Malaysia Institute of Management (MIM). The moment I set foot at the fair, the MPH staff couldn’t care less about the so-called special preview day they were suppose to arrange.

I would rant about their lousy event management of a lousy venue selection and not-so-discount books but I think a customer loyalty program – MPH Readers’ Circle (MRC) – is more important at this point. The exclusivity members or invited customers should be getting when they’ve already stated forth.

Now I’ve less expectation of any MPH warehouse, stock clearance, or what other sales they’ll organize. The next time they mention special preview day, I’m going to doubt it every single time and might even slip my tongue by referring my experience today to friends. I don’t do it on purpose but out of frustration with the lack of professionalism and promise I have been expecting.

The only good book I got for a great price is Seth Godin’s Permission Marketing which was printed in 1999 and it was all dusty.

Anyone else experienced disappointment or frustration from MPH before?

  1. You are right. It is so easy for a company to let their customers down, and not meet their expectations. Companies too often look at quantity, not quality, only to be surprised when the quality customer pulls out and goes somewhere else with his or her business.

  2. I guess the practice of benefiting from volume is getting old or rather it now takes more than simple marketing to please a customer.

Today, I’ve noticed customers are more demanding than years back. Hence the requirement of even fulfilling a user’s web expectation now.
