Day 4: Buy the Apple iPhone in Malaysia
When I first learned about the Apple iPhone prices in Malaysia it was crazy. Although the prices were not fixed ranging from as low as RM2100 to as high as RM3000+. Everyone who wanted the Apple iPhone in Malaysia was justifying the cost, including me.
It was the simple calculations we did involving the product and only the hack. Some included the courier charges from the USA but that too didn’t add up to some of the reselling prices. In desperation, all I could do at the point was start blogging about the Apple iPhone in Malaysia albeit it’s a little different now. Since it’s right beside me as I’m typing this.
Anyway, as you all know the folks at iPhones Unlocked were good enough to loan me a unit for my Apple iPhone Malaysia review. It’s been great from Day 0; I received the Apple iPhone to this day I’d like to share an Apple iPhone promotional deal I’ve got you guys from them.
Shiew has offered to allocate 10 units of 8GB Apple iPhone to be sold to interested buyers from my blog. The going price for these units (thanks to this running review and its readers) is RM2680. Furthermore, he has sweeten the deal by adding if all 10 units were sold then the buyers will receive a further reduction of RM180. With that, buyers will only pay RM2500 for the 8GB Apple iPhone in Malaysia.
Firstly, it’s not the cheapest around (it never is in Malaysia) but that isn’t the catch. Yes, the catch or benefit (depending on how you look at it) is the 10 units of Apple iPhones are the reknown Apple refurbished Apple iPhone units. Before you think these are hand me downs or the like, think for a moment why Apple products are very rarely found. And did you know Apple refurbished products are highly sought after?
The simple reasons why Apple refurbished products are choice products is:
- Cheaper
- Better quality
- New warranty
The possible scenario is if a buyer so happens to find an Apple iPhone faulty (which sometimes isn’t necessary the case) they could get a brand new one replaced for them. Of course, this is only done in America and other certain countries.
Therefore, if you really want an affordable and (almost) perfectly compatible Apple iPhone in Malaysia, you’d better get a hold of of one of these 8GB Apple iPhone units from this blog. Interested Malaysia Apple iPhone users could enquire in the comments but buyers please contact me through email.
If I had the money at this time, there’d only be 9 units of 8GB Apple iPhones for ordering to Malaysia.
Today, I also met up with another Malaysia Apple iPhone buyer named Jimmy (rashow). His first expression upon seeing the Apple iPhone was “Oh my God!”. While he oogled and man handled the Apple iPhone, his pregnant wife awed and bugged him to let her have a go at the Apple iPhone as well. After all, it is a lady killer so Jimmy was ‘protecting’ her.
Both of them were very impressed by not only it’s sheer beauty – Jimmy said it’s sexy, but they expected the Apple iPhone to have video recording capabilities. Besides that, it was written all over Jimmy’s face how badly he wanted the Apple iPhone and now he wants it even more than ever. He has also informed me other than him he’s got friends who’re ready to buy the Apple iPhone right away.
Less said, Apple iPhone buyers here better note there now may be only 7-8 units of 8GB Apple iPhone left. With that, most likely we’re about to see more and more Malaysia Apple iPhone users very soon.
And I’m sure you’ll be one of them if you’ve been reading this.

Warranty is under Apple or Shiew?
RM2.4k, that’s the money that I am planning to buy the Canon 400D. There’s a lot to think about if I am to buy this iPhone. On top of that, the product is way too new for my liking (as in firm wares, bugs and etc.)
rm2680 deduct with rm180 izzit rm2500?
Jason:
If you’re already hacking the iPhone to use in Malaysia, I don’t think Apple would be giving you a warranty. Although you could sell it back to a USA resident at the same cost (it was sold in US) or slightly lower because iPhones Unlocked policy is to be able to revert back the Apple iPhone as it was without the messy tinkling.
I’m afraid the camera and iPhone is more of your priorities. What do you need most at this moment in time? The camera could be for work or hobby? In the iPhone scenario it could be because your phone is already dying on you? So you need to think about what is your immediate requirements now.
As for firmware, it’s solid at 1.0.2 and bugs, I’ve not encountered any yet so far. Except when using some third party applications but that responsibility is with the team who offered it.
Mamet:
Thanks for pointing that mistake out. I get too carried away typing sometimes. I noticed you’ve got some articles on the iPod, so you considering an Apple iPhone?
No warranty for a RM2500 product, that doesn’t sound very enticing to me.
I might just wait for the iPhone to be properly launched in Malaysia and then only get it.
I consider myself a user more towards the heavy user side. Although I don’t use the stock, map and weather function (I doubt we can use them in Malaysia.), I certainly welcome the mail and Safari function.
The camera function is there for me to take MMS pictures or some quick shot when I didn’t bring my camera out (which is very seldom). I am a casual user when it comes to MP3 music while I’m on the move. Hence, the purpose of buying the iPhone is to replace my 2 year old and lagging like a tortoise Symbian phone N70. I believe it’s going to die anytime soon.
However, looking at the specification, it’s rather tad disappointing that it doesn’t come with 3G. There aren’t many hotspots in Malacca as in KL yet. I am still waiting for you to complete you review of the iPhone before I further make my own research and read ups.
Really need to ponder about it. Saving another RM2.5k is no easy feat.
P/S : Is the phone able to send out MMS? WAP? GPRS?
means there is no warranty for this iPhone?what if this phone get faulty after few months of using and whom should i send in for repair or i just throw it into rubbish bin?
is it possible to install those fancy programs like marbles rolling when u shake your phone, filling the phone with beer or something like that kind?and i saw it from some websites that its battery cant be taken out like a normal handphone so where should i get the battery replaced if its spoils?
Jason:
You can wait…like some others…and wait. You get the idea. It’s like waiting for an Apple Malaysia concept store which many (including me) am praying for one. Although it was hinted the iPhone will in Asia early 2008 but it wasn’t clarified where in Asia. As discussed in the iPod Touch post, Apple may not come in if there isn’t the provider to support it.
I wouldn’t have use for WAP or GPRS if I have WiFi and EDGE. No doubt 3G is faster than EDGE but because you already have WiFi, I suppose Apple thought why do you need anything better. Well, you have to give them that since the Apple iPhone was meant to be in the US first.
I can so understand the difficulty in saving the cash. I too owe my parents for a couple of things they helped me out pay in advance. It’s not easy and for that, I’m lucky. But like you, I’m a photography hobbyist so buying lenses to me takes a longer than normal weight compared to the avid or working photographer.
Ray:
It’s not that you won’t have totally no warranty. If you have a problem or an error, get in touch with the iPhones Unlocked folks. They’re not the sell, close shop and let their customers wander type.
I think you mean the Installer applications. Yes, you can install as many as your hard disk permits you.
Good question. I can’t answer that for now on behalf of iPhons Unlocked but I’ll get them to come here for that.
What a nice phone! But too pricey lor… no money to buy lor.
Well, it is a lifestyle phone. And when it’s coming from Apple, it’s always at a premium price. Of course, that is different if you’re living in the USA.
End said, if you really want the phone then you’d be more than willing to pay any price for it. My purpose is not to find the best buy but to talk about what experiences I’ve encountered with the phone.
Hi Danny,
Just wanted to know whether you still have any iphones left? If so what is the going price at the moment?
I read some of your articles concerning the iphone v the itouch. In your opinion do you think that that the itouch is a better device to purchase even though it doesn’t have phone capability?
Since Malaysia will only officialy get the iphone in 2008 do you think apple will launch a new iphone with greater capability and features soon?
regards
David
Hey David,
The iPhones Unlocked guys are stocking up again by the end of this week. At the moment, new 8GB units are at RM2800. However, this blog has an agreement that if 5 buyers ordered from here then they’ll get it at RM2680. If 10 buyers exist, they’ll slash it by another RM180; RM2500. To be honest, there are cheaper but it’s whether they can offer what iPhones Unlocked do.
Well, I thought the Touch was the ‘iPhone temporary replacement’. In other words, I thought how lovely it would be to watch movies in a bigger screen. As for your question, I would say get the iPhone instead of the Touch. If you’re comparing the Touch and the iPod Classic, probably the Classic is better since it has better playing hours.
It is rumoured by the time Apple releases it in Asia 2008, we may have 3G support. However, it’s only the support for its standard and not 2-way video conferencing. That said, you just have an option for faster connectivity besides WiFi.
I doubt the iPhone will come in any other greater capability. And I wouldn’t call the latest addition of the iTunes WiFi Music Store a great thing, since we can’t use it in Malaysia any how. Extended features could be developed by the community sources by the time the device is officially available in Asia.
In the end, I would say if you can afford it then you should get it.
