You Got GASS?

Hey hey, aim those loaded buns somewhere more open. The GASS that I meant was Google Adsense Stats Syndrome like the one I was speaking about in my previous article; Path of The Problogger – Adsense. It hasn’t been considered an actual medical diagnosis but like I said, it takes self-realization and honesty to step forward.

As much as this started as a laughing matter, imagine if you were without an Internet connection for a week or more. The results or behaviour would initially be the same like a person who has a mobile phone but no line in a foreign country. Trust me, when I was without any telephone communication in Melbourne for a whole week, I felt like I was missing a huge part of my life.

So when did I diagnose myself experiencing signs of GASS?

Well, ever since the weblog update I’ve moved my Adsense into more strategic spots around the blog, I’ve noticed a small but influential result. Due to this small but steady amount of clicks per day or revenue generation, I’ve noticed I’ve been logging into my Adsense more often. Worst still, I’ve just installed the Firefox Extension; Adsense Notifier. *gasp* Now on my status bar I’ve got Adsense information from Page Impressions, Clicks and Revenue displayed..24/7. *gulp*

I suppose these are few of the symptoms for Stage 1 GASS.

  • Logging into Adsense minimum 10-20 times a day.
  • Constantly tracking the Channel Data.
  • Researching past days though you’ve seen them earlier.
  • Installing applications like Adsense Notifier in your weblog.
  • Installing the Adsense Notifier for your browser.

I don’t think I’ve got to ask but assume that many who’ve been running Adsense long and have noticed a certain stable flow of revenue would be experiencing these symptoms. But though this is only Stage 1, I’m pretty sure there’s exasperated symtoms that could be diagnosed as Stage 2 or more. Let’s take a gander.

  • Overly stress due to slight revenue decrease.
  • Overwhelming number of ads around the website/weblog.
  • Sleep disturbance worrying about your Adsense.
  • Restless from doing anything but monitoring your Adsense.
  • Extensive complaints to Google and blogger buddies regarding Adsense.
  • Unplanned website/weblog instantly setup for more Adsense revenue.
  • Bragging highly of the high number in revenue from Adsense.
  • Others that you might think of..

Disclaimer:
These are symptoms that I only guess might happen. None of this is really factual and should be regarded as only information shared for myself.. None of these symptoms are used to intentionally cause harm to Google or its program, Google Adsense. If any of this information were to be considered as a threat or harm to the company, please contact me at dannyfoo dot com and information will be removed.

These symptoms might not just apply to Adsense users but anyone who closely monitors their ad programs without self-realization. Therefore, it’s important that all bloggers take precaution when being too involved with the revenue they generate from their blogs.

As much a myth or urban legend this might be, anything is possible as long we are humans of this world. Cheers.

  1. lol i really interested to know how much % your earning increase is after the change of template and Ads position etc…

  2. Well, I’m honestly not earning by the 1000s like Liew or Darren that’s why I said it’s little but stable. Besides, I’m still happy because it’s quite the improvement from the last layout.

For instance, if you managed to get minimum 10 clicks a day in comparison of 0 a day of the layout you had before, you know you did something right. :)

    Cheers.

  3. Does blog really generates revenue? After blogging in blogspot for months, my revenue is only a few dollars. Yet, I find myself having GASS problem. :)

  4. Well, if Liew manages to generate RM1000 average a month from ads then I don’t see why not. If Darren manages to regenerate 10,000 then it makes even more sense that ads does have a way of generating revenue.

But like mentioned, sometimes it takes patience. Also, some probloggers run more than 1 blog. Therefore their revenue isn’t only from 1 source. :)

    Cheers.
