I just got a spam in my Inbox of a local workshop, talk or seminar going down in Kuala Lumpur on the topic Search Engine 101. The event only might interest me in what the speaker has to say in the second half after lunch. Yup, it’s going to be a whole day affair for anyone willing to pay RM499-RM599 per person.
The speaker is Ms Meng who probably is working with a local company called Webflexx. According to the spammed newsletter, she’s been very involved in the web scene and has been managing lots of public listed companies and etc and other marketing jargon you’ll read on 1-page ‘buy this now’ type of websites.
These are the topics that willbe touched on in the search engine 101 course.

I can understand not everyone has the time to learn about all of this online like some of us. But I keep wondering what’s the cost breakdown of hosting a seminar like this. And I think it’s hosted somewhere or in the Webflexx office at Bukit Damansara. Included is also lunch and tea for those attending.
I’d really like to attend one of these seminars without paying just so I can review the effectiveness of it. There’ll be weaknesses but at least they’ll have an honest attendees point of view being shared with other who’re still pondering if the investment is worth it.
So anyone willing to offer me a free seat in the search engine 101 workshop? :P
Webflexx are spammers and were exposed by Darknet, you should check out the article relating to them:
A Real Malaysian E-mail Spammer Exposed – Webflexx
I wouldn’t trust anything a spammer has to say if they have to use spamming to get business.
I believe after our UCE reports, the Webflexx site has been down.
Their website URL merely changed the word web to tech. Anyway, as much of a spammer they are, I’d rather be discussing the target audience or market who’ll most likely attend their workshop. :)
Thanks for the info though.
“I wouldn’t trust anything a spammer has to say if they have to use spamming to get business.”
Ditto :)
The fact that they spammed to get attention/exposure says it all.
I agree with Hawk. They spammed you in the first place – that’s suspicious enough already.
And oh, isn’t the content of the seminar about topics which can easily be found in exquisite detail on the Internet with a quick Google search?
While I understand that a real-life seminar would probably be enlightening for those who want to learn without having to search for online info themselves, I’d like to think that it wouldn’t be all that great, since the seminar will most probably touch on only the basics of things. They can’t possibly cover everything in such a short period of time.
And there’s that huge cost of attending the seminar to think about too.
What the heck is ‘Google dance’?? Ridiculous!
Urm, don’t really know if you’re mad because they need to explain that or it’s because you’re saying there isn’t such a thing. :P
Anyway, here’s a link for those who don’t know what is Google Dance.
Do you trust them, Can you give me the contact?
Do you think it worth it?
Hi John,
Unfortunately, I’m not willing to pay so much money to learn what I already might know. However, if someone or the organizer were willing to invite me for these talks then I’d give them an honest review any time.
I also don’t have their contact and I don’t think it’ll honestly be worth it because if someone like yourself were to enroll in this seminar. Can you absorb all that’s being taught in a day?
Knowing a term and being able to explain to other colleagues is different. :)
Cheers.
I received this spam for the past few days, and found several posts (your blog included) on this SEO course. I’d rather spend the money on something more worthwhile, like the recently concluded Tech-Ed SEA 2006 (about RM1300 for 4-days with good information, hands-on labs and lots of goodies).
Honestly, you can learn all about SEO via the web. Join the forums, or sign-up for newsletters. You don’t need this kind of seminar/talk by a person who claims to be the Malaysia’s SEO specialist.
Hey TOE,
Really appreciative to know a fellow XiMnet has stopped by my blog. :)
Anyway, I suppose if the size of the company or the individual can afford the RM1300 investment then it’ll be a great deal for them to learn about ASP.net 2.0 and other web related topics being covered in Tech-Ed SEA.
From the agenda and schedule, it looks to me Tech-Ed is about marketing Vista and the current ‘People Ready’ theme Microsoft is promoting.
We’d definetetly like to hear what was the experience and the knowledge gain after you’ve attended the seminar. ;)
