Client Gave Me a Bonus

A little early for Chinese New Year but a great happy client will appreciate the value you have to offer them. A client of mine that I’ll showcase when the project has gone live has just given me a bonus. In his words, just a small red packet (ang pau/ang pow) for me when I submit the last bill.

I’ll leave the guessing of amount to you as I feel it might not be appropriate to scream it out. But the genenorisity shown to me is really new since I started doing this business on a freelance basis.

Aside from the bonus given, I actually thought the client had made a mistake and had given me too much. So, embarassingly enough for me to accept more than is required I sent a reply to ask if he made a mistake.

Then this morning, this was the reply I got.

When you submitted the beta version, I promise to you a small ang
pow. Have a prosperous one.

I was still baffled so I retraced through the emails I’ve archived and found the email. I missed the bottom part that he actually mentioned in a ‘please see’ (p/s) note that he was going to share with me an ang pau.

How could I miss out a note for more money?

Well, when you’re putting your clients and their work before money, I suppose you’ll concentrate on the value you promised them at the agreement of accepting their project.

Would you have missed out on the note too?

  1. PS actually stands for ‘Post Script’ derived from the Latin ‘Post Scriptum’ meaning an additional message after the main body of text in correspondence.

Speaking of AngPows and notes, I make it a point to tear apart angpow wrappers before i toss them, incase i accidently throw out notes. :D
