Since the start of the MSC in 1996, it was all about the hype of raising the bar in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) of things. It was a plan and target for all companies to be part of MSC or Multimedia Development Corporation (MDC). The battle still continues to eliminate piracy, improve technology, increase numbers of Internet penetration and others.
A decade has passed and they’ve decided to reband and revitalise the whole MSC and MDC scene. Maybe they think since it’s been 10 years and we’re only a quarter in, we could try sarting fresh and make things cooler. They’ve changed the MDC to M-DeC which just puzzles me because I thought MDC was always a great name for it.
Anyway, I was laughing to myself when I was reading The Star front page article that day. Why?
“We are never short of ideas, but only short on implementation,†he said at the launch of the MSC Multimedia Content Initiative (M-CMCI) in conjunction with MSC Malaysia’s anniversary celebrations here yesterday.
The M-CMCI is an initiative to develop the creative multimedia industry which has a global worth of US$644bil (RM2,383bil).

As a resident of Malaysia, I find it ironic that our dear prime minister used that phrase. It’s controversial that they’re only setting aside for the creative multimedia sector in the MSC now after 10 years.
But in all that laughter, I was inspired at the same time by the MSCs new theme.
Win Hearts at Home, Win Battles Abroad
Part of our company mission and vision has this belief carved out but we’re going to win hearts abroad back home as well. One of the key goals for our company is to win back the hearts of the students who’re now overseas. We’re aiming to be the website agency, firm, corporation, company, or whatever to bring back all local talents who love this industry and share our passion.
Other articles from The Star about the anniversary:

- Revitalising the MSC brand and image
- Animators out to raise local standard with ‘Saladin’
Define “Win Hearts at Home, Win Battles Abroad” in your own words.
The multimedia industry in Malaysia is emerging with high potentials. I have a few friends working in companies that produce animations and visual effects for walt Disney cartoon movies. If the talents from these local firms are further sharpen with sufficient ventures, not surprising, we could have excellent animation titles produced locally. Instead of saying “Malaysian talents participated in this movie”, we could have “Malaysian talents produced this movie” ;)
Beautiful. :) So sad that there aren’t my people with aspirations and have probably given up on the Malaysian industry.
