I’m not sure if many web agencies, designers, developers and freelancers noticed this but there’s a new breed of web agencies today. Traditionally (old school and conservative) in Malaysia, a web agency set up here would take on projects from all walks of the Internet. They tell customers we service web design and development from small 1 product businesses to large corporations with branches all over Malaysia.
Well, it looks like this path is about to change soon. The agencies are branching out from the tree and becoming more specialized. They’re targeting niche markets and have become really professionals in that area.
The recent one I found is; Silverpoint – Web Solutions for Schools. They provide web design and development services from schools to higher level institutions. Other than web standards, I’ve found from their portfolio they’ve provided top notch results to many schools. Combining Flash and other media, they have packaged each education board in a unique package.
Besides Silverpoint, there’s another web agency which provides web design and development specifically to the cinema and theater market. The Theater Website Services focuses on delivering high-quality web design services to the movie and theater entertainment market. Though their list of development services isn’t as complex compared to Silverpoint but also has a custom Media Manager to maintain their website content.
These two examples are proof that the Internet once again is growing up. The market is growing so big that agencies now are personalizing their own markets. They’re taking charge to deliver high quality results to a niche market two times over.
I wonder if the Malaysia web industry has the opportunity to create true specialists.
