Today it’s uncommon to hear someone who wants to start a blog say, “What should I blog about? Everyone already is blogging about what I’d like to blog.” There’s a rule in the business network I belong in and the rule is; thou shan’t say I do not have or I can not do. This rule might sound forceful but in fact, it’s to keep the network members positive.
Therefore, if you say there is nothing to blog about since everyone is blogging about what you want to blog, then you’ve failed even before trying. Furthermore, this isn’t even one of the reasons why some bloggers fail to realize their blogging potential. I’ll compile a list of reasons I know and have heard on why blogs fail later.
In the meantime, let’s try being positive here and answer; what can you blog?
The one thing most people blog about is their personal life. Blogging started of like a journal. As you grow, you’d like to document your life. Soon enough journals became diaries for everyone to share their mind. Writers (or bloggers as well call them) later ventured into more selective or niche topics as we call it. Not too long after, corporate directors realized the power of blogging.
If you’re still asking so what can you blog about? I can tell you there is no limit except for your imagination. If it’s not your imagination then it’s your writing. Each individual writer (assuming they write – will tell you about this later) has their personal style in writing. I’m no professional writer therefore I can’t describe the style to you. But when you’ve read several different blogs, you’ll realize each of the writers have their personal tone to the text or grammar.
That is why even if there are 6,525,170,264 (world population) bloggers in this world, each blogger writes different from the other. There will be instances of similar style but through time, they will discover their own personal method.
Blogging is about the content with aesthetic help as well. On the other hand, a blog is still not a blog without unique content.
Regarding the matter of unique content and the assumption I mentioned earlier, today blogging has evolved into an online money making venture. There are those who try capitalizing on this using lazy (and sleazy) methods. Some of the methods are:
- Aggregate or collect information directly from various blogs and claim as their own
- Often rewrite published entries by reputable authors on their blog and link back
- Use a software to automatically collect and post published entries
There are other unexplored methods not listed but after reading enough blogs daily, you’ll be able to tell the difference between those written by human and by a robot.
Up and until now, I hope you will have more confidence in starting a blog. Don’t be afraid of competition because a unique style and content is what stop readers in their tracks.
Remember, be positive!
