Blogging for about 3 years does teach you a thing or two to generate traffic to your blog. And you don’t have to wear a tutu to accomplish it. Lame pun but wanted to add some fun. Don’t blame me why I’m rhyming all of a sudden because it’s just words that are flowing out at the moment.
Anyway, ever since I started blogging I’ve noticed what could be the no.1 mistake bloggers make when they want to generate traffic to their blog. This might catch you as a surprise but I believe the no.1 mistake bloggers make is they start ignoring the existing blog aggregators.
A very good example I’d like to use is; Project Petaling Street (PPS). When I first started out, I’ve always ping and the traffic was very satisfying. Now I still do ping the blog aggregator but I’ve noticed many of the bloggers whom I’ve known back then like:
- Kennysia
- Minishorts
- LiewCF
- PaulTan
- Jeff Ooi
- ShaolinTiger
- and a lot more of them…
Now don’t ping PPS. Some of the reasons I know and have heard before are:
- I don’t like PPS.
- PPS doesn’t give me enough traffic.
- My blog is way above PPS. (Trust me, there are bloggers who think that.)
- PPS is outdated.
- and a whole lot more other reasons.
Dear bloggers, old or new, when you first started out you never did know if you’d become a blog celebrity or be the most sought after blog to date. In addition, when you first started out you were hunting for traffic like Tyrannosaurus hunting cows. Besides that, did you know there are more and more new bloggers joining PPS or other blog aggregators to date?
So answer the question; is you or your blog too almighty for PPS now?
New bloggers, my advice to you is to never ignore a blog aggregator no matter how popular your blog has already become because traffic is traffic. The more channels you open the more the traffic you will get.
What blog aggregators are you pinging at the moment?

haa..i still use PPS ( just fugured out how to add auto ping in WP ..hahaha )
and now im suing google Blog Search, makes things easier ;)
Mahendran, I think you meant ‘using’. LOL!
hahahah damn thoose typo prone fingers of mine!
hahahaha.. suing =p
I am using PPS, it’s a good exposure if you want to attract Malaysian
It’s been a while seeing you here Gaman. :)
Guess you’re getting really good exposure from international readers.
i find yr articles informative :) . sometimes i do ping pps and sometimes i dont. pps lasts for only a day at most. when i like what i write i do ping but sometimes i just let it ride. not all posts are good enough :)
Well, being selective has its advantages and disadvantages. I’d advice to ping it no matter what because someone might be able to relate to your story and you’d have easily gain another reader. :)
Thanks. I am still learning. But somehow, i got problems linking in the aggregators.
Which aggregators do you have a problem with?
I use PPS for the simple fact that my blog is new and needs traffic. Another reason is I don’t like to see in sitemeter that I have 2-3 times more visitors from US than Malaysia. I earnestly wish that my blog can be ‘internationalized’, but I will never forget my root, traffic from homeland is important! But I can understand why KennySia don’t need to ping PPS anymore, I just left a comment there once and the traffic from there is phenomenal, much better than entrecard advertising. You just have to imagine the amount of traffic he gets for a single post, and the post I commented is just a simple photoblogging post… WOW!
Well, Timothy (Nufnang co-founder) is another blog that has traffic to reckon with. Albeit not as popular as Kenny but if you made a constructive comment, others would want to know who is this guy/girl. :)
I am using PPS too… bringing additional traffic to my blog.
LOL! Steve Yu, is proof in concept when I wrote the article; The Easiest Way to Generate Blog Traffic. I actually commented on Steve’s blog yesterday and here he is today. :)
Welcome to Websites Made Simple, Steve.
Nice blog.
Thanks to PPS im reading this.
