Set Short Term and Long Term Google Adsense Goals

Think MoneyI may not be the richest blogger in Malaysia who earns from Google Adsense, but I’m still thankful for the monetary support Google has given me. By the way, WHO IS the richest blogger in Malaysia earning from Google Adsense? Or is there none?

So anyway, I thought I’d share a thing or two of how I managed to earn a healthy income from Google Adsense. Note I said healthy…and not ludicrously rich or I earn an income as high as a senior position in a company. Well, one of the things I did and still do is set short term and long term goals for my Google Adsense earnings. As far as I can recall, I’ve always mentioned about having a blogging strategy and now, this is one of them.

Step One: How much do you want?
This is kind of like financial planning or planning any investment in fact. By setting an achievable figure, you prepare yourself for what you may have to do and what you need to do to get it. So while you’re staring at your Google Adsense earnings, think about a figure you wish to see in your account. Maybe in the long haul, USD500-1000 per month and short span, USD100-300 per month.

Step Two: Be realistic
If you didn’t catch what I said above, I said “achievable figure”. In other words, a realistic figure you know you can earn via Google Adsense. In addition, realistic of your position too. If you’re a new blogger but want a ‘realistic’ figure of USD500-1000 per month, you’re better off doing affiliate marketing. Therefore, think big but not THAT big. :)

Step Three: Set the time frame
Despite procrastination being a skill of a Malaysian, a goal becomes clearer and more focused when you put a deadline on it. Again, be realistic – not start today and see USD500 by the end of the week. I’d personally give myself ample time like 3-6 months to earn USD300 only. So set a deadline for your goal.

Step Four: Commit to it
As they say, “on the way” isn’t an accurate answer. If you want to earn that figure in the set duration, you better expect to work for it. Although it’s great to hear how much the blogger is earning, they may have missed mentioning the part in between the lines.

Step Five: Be patient, not lazy
This emphasizes on the above actually. Hard work pays off in the end and as they say, you reap what you sow. And, it sure is a damn good feeling later. If you want to be lazy, do it when you have reached your long term goal. That’s if it hasn’t changed yet.

Step Six: Review your goal and Repeat
Your short term duration has passed, have you met your goal? Don’t blame yourself if it hasn’t. Instead, think of why it didn’t reach and think again of how to reach it. Maybe you need to readjust the amount or duration. One of the things I believe works is to think positive. Don’t let bad karma (so to speak) diminish your drive.

Again, this is merely a thing or two I’m personally sharing with you. I’ve imagine the amount I wanted, I’ve planned roughly when I wanted it, I’ve stuck my head in though headache a few times and it’s slowly (but consistently) getting there.

p.s: So how are your goals coming?

  1. I’m not too sure I want to put AdSense on my blog just yet, it is just a little over 20 days now. I have put up Advertlets and it a painful way to find out that money is so difficult to earn, made me think that even standing as promoter in supermarket is easier… So don’t want to be stuck to AdSense, not reaching the minimum payout amount, maybe I will implement it only when I have more viewers…. How much you earning now from AdSense, mind to give a rough figure?

  2. The best way to make big money, is to have publishers come directly to you. Plus, your blog has to be able to deliver to their expectations too. I’m pretty much fixed on Adsense and Nuffnang – trying out the Glitterati program.

I earn roughly an average of only USD20 per month now. Really not a lot and nothing to be envious about. Based on the niche I am in, it takes awhile for this amount to happen.
