Now, this was quite unexpected. Especially when Maxis in Malaysia recently launched the iPhone. According to the research company; The NPD Group, they reported BlackBerry mobile devices gained 50 percent of the US smartphone market.

On the other hand, is it really a surprise because I’ve told Apple iPhone enthusiasts in Malaysia the Apple iPhone isn’t really a smartphone. It’s more of a lifestyle mobile phone. Lifestyle being a mobile device to make people oogle and awe at your Apple iPhone when you whip it out.
In terms of being a smartphone for entrepreneurs or businessmen, the Apple iPhone is definitely lacking in key areas. Otherwise, heavily relies on the iPhone applications in the iTunes store.
One such example is ability to forward SMS messages. Another good example is the ability to edit or view common digital office files by default. Like, Microsoft Word, Adobe PDF and etc.
If you’re not using the Apple iPhone, what smartphone are you using now?
Yes, Agreed.
Iphone is wonderful desgin for lifestyle but it is not suitable for business use…
I think youngster will like Iphone, but I prefer Blackberry~
Disagree.
Firstly, iPhone can view Microsoft Word, Adobe PDF and etc. Cannot edit though.
Secondly, you will be able to forward sms / send contact info etc if you jailbreak it.
Thirdly, I don’t know why you say like it’s a bad thing to rely on app store for additional functionality. The whole point is for developers to cover the gap Apple did not provide for.
Lastly, reason why blackberry is still in the market is because of security issues with iPhone. Blackberry users are usually corporate executives where security is paramount. Eventually when these issues are fixed, Blackberry may have to start finding something else to sell.
Enough said.
All I can say is iphone been overrated… expensive especially in Malaysia… RM 2k ++ everyone goes woo waaa about the brand… But for those all the while apple users i think pretty suit them la… for other non apple users… “What are you thinking?” well… they rich…
I am not rich and I just use those cheap phone. As long have a VGA cam, sms, mms. I am happy enough.
@dsvt:
We all have our own personal preferences. :)
@Keith:
What do you use to view Word and etc? And most importantly, how do you transfer these documents into your iPhone? AFAIK, the better stuff to manage and do what we need to do on the iPhone are paid apps.
@korny:
Well, it can affordable and Maxis could have made it that way. However, they chose to look at the other market.
@hehe:
No wonder you started trying to gain commission from referring broadband customers. LOL! :P
Danny,
You could view them in email…?
As for editing such documents, I would prefer a bigger screen though.
toao:
I don’t bother with emails in my iPhone anymore. :P
But what I’d have like to be able to do is have a folder for me to store documents which I can easily retrieve from the iPhone and review. This is especially handy when I don’t have to open up my laptop just to retrieve a quotation in PDF. :P
