Let’s be honest here. We’ve heard of stories bloggers already started cashing cheques after 3-months of blogging. Some report doing it even after a month of blogging. Like you, I wonder how they do it or what they even tell is just to get more traffic.
One of the things people love hearing is how others made their money using the same method – especially if the sum is more than what we are generating. So that’s one of the topics which will help you generate more money. Everyone wants to be a millionaire but just don’t know how. So there’s no excuse not knowing what can you blog.
I’m embarrassed to share I only got my first Adsense cheque after a year plus. What I blogged about were my life and my love for website design. My life isn’t as humorous as Kenny Sia, as diversified as ChanLilian and obviously not as glamour as the famous female bloggers we have today in Malaysia.
However, due to my Apple iPhone in Malaysia series my blog traffic along with the click-through rate has picked up. I’m not generating the thousands yet but this learning experience was very beneficial to me.
That said, this has made it obvious new technology related items are one of the hottest topic in the blogosphere. This is especially true if the product itself is from a reknown brand like Apple or others.
I know, you’re not a technology follower but just want to blog for yourself – not for the money. And no, I’m not poking fun at you for saying that. I believe everyone should be writing for themselves first then greed. Therefore, you should be proud you’re writing for yourself in self-benefit.
Speaking about blogging for yourself, one of the topics readers love reading are the quirky life of others. By quirky, I meant unique or a person who stands out. I’ve noticed Malaysia blogs of this genre don’t earn too much from programs like Adsense but mostly from folks like Nuffnang. Simple reason is I’ve found Nuffnang advertisers to be more geared towards lifestyle-oriented advertising.
Other blog topics I’ve found generate more money are:
- Sex
- Parental
- Self-improvement / Self-help
- Politics
Since I’ve touched on some of the programs, I’d also like to elaborate that through my observation each program performs best depending on your topic and your targeted readers. In other words, if you’re going for new gadgets and technology, Adsense and similar programs give you better impact.
If you’re more lifestyle-oriented, company’s like Nuffnang gives you a better chance of earning more. But you should only consider all this thoroughly if you’re really serious about making money. Plus, I’m only sharing my personal observation at the moment without factual data to back what I’ve said so far.
Thus, please take my words with a grain of salt. For my concluding thoughts, it’s always more important to enjoy writing first. Otherwise, you just might end having to delete blog drafts older than a month.
p/s: I’m holding my Adsense payment until end of this year; 2007. Don’t want to be overly distracted by it for the time being. ïÂÅ

There are a plenty of bloggers who’ve used; How to earn extra money? or basically anything with blogging and create, make, generate, extra income, more money has been used. :)
You should try a more direct title like; How I earn RM400 blogging every month? I can bet you’ll have a little more traffic on that post. *grin*
Both of them do not perform well back to those days when I had my blog hosted on Blogspot, still writing paid post is a more efficient way to earn money
Unfortunately, PPP has very limited payment options. I don’t really like signing up for PayPal albeit the recent option added by them to enable withdrawal through credit card.
Oh well, it’s not the method that I was talking about but the topics which help make more money. :)
