Apple iPhone firmware version 1.1.2 Release

I just got wind there is a new Apple iPhone firmware version now available. Not too long ago Apple released iTunes version 7.5 and now the Apple iPhone firmware has a new version; 1.1.2. However, don’t start hopping around and jumping for joy because apparently this firmware has broke jailbreak.

Jailbreak is basically the simplest method to enable the Apple iPhone to use any telco you throw at it. So this is not very good news to unlock Apple iPhone users at the moment. But the comforting news, you don’t really need to upgrade it because the fixes or additions isn’t as important.

The new additions to the Apple iPhone has something to do with Voice Memos and free-disk usage or something like it. That doesn’t sound too appealing to me at the moment as I don’t even know what’s it really used for. So I’m happily staying with my Apple iPhone in Malaysia at version 1.1.1. Not to mention how easy it was to unlock the Apple iPhone 1.1.1 in Malaysia.

News at the moment is if your Apple iPhone is version 1.1.1 and you have iTunes 7.5, don’t update it yet. However, it’s safe to say you won’t see any prompt in iTunes for the moment because it’s not automated…yet.

For anyone who wants to upgrade and kill their unlocked Apple iPhone firmware 1.1.1, you will have to manually download the file. I’m not going to put the link here else there goes all the darling Apple iPhones.

To save Apple iPhone users from upgrading to firmware version 1.1.2, here’s a video you can find better inspiration in killing your Apple iPhone instead of upgrading. :)

p/s: Have you got a better idea on how to kill your Apple iPhone?

  1. Hi Danny,

    I’m from malaysia, PJ

i use unlocked version 1.02. How difference is it with 1.11 ?

My current set however cannot get the Youtube function . How ler ? Can you get youtube function with your Unit ?

    Your feedback please

  2. Ari:
Do you know what method was used to unlock your iPhone? Open-source or iphonesimfree? If no, where did you buy it from?

The biggest difference is you’ll get the iTunes mobile store on your iPhone. However, you can’t buy it direct from Malaysia because there is NO Apple Store. :( But there is a way to buy from iTunes nonetheless.

When I was running 1.0.2 my YouTube was fine. I’ve a strong feeling yours isn’t working properly is due to the unlocking.

  3. Hi danny, thanks for your reply.

I bought it from Subang Parade phone dealer infront of Digi outlet at Ground floor.

I bought it out of my eagerness to get hold of this beautiful Iphone without knowing the version and its available features…damn me !

Can i get my unit reinitiated and then unlock it to the latest wares so that i can use all functions ? can you do it for me and the cost of doing it ?

Hopefully i can maximize the usage including installing whatever 3rd party application available out there.
Btw, i dunno how to set mail (yahoo or my pop mail) and get the youtube function in my case. Hope you got the solution for me.

    Thanx and your reply please.

  4. Ari:
It’s alright. At least you’re part of the iPhone club now. Plus, you have a cool device to flash over and over and over. :P

I don’t sell nor deal direct with Apple iPhones but I’ll get a MAXIMiphone representative to be in touch with you. :)

He’ll be able to solve your YouTube problem promptly.

  5. Hello, Danny, I’m a new iphone user can U pls tell me where can l update my phone to ver 1.1.1. Currently l’m using an unlocked version 1.02. Thanks!

  6. Ari:
I’ve emailed you and passed your contact to my reseller. I’ll follow up with him when I see him online later. :)

    Ash:
First question is; do you have an iphonesimfree license?

If you don’t know, you’ll need to find out as this may affect the other times you plan on upgrading your iphone.

If you have an iphonesimfree license, my How to Unlock Apple iPhone 1.1.1 in Malaysia should help.

But you have to know how your iphone was initially unlocked first.

  7. hi danny upgraded mine to 1.1.1 already with ipsf. Now enjoying youtube, mail and other 3rd party softwares. Love my iphone more than before !!

  8. hey ari, care to share what made you upgrade to the iPhoneSimFree paid iPhone unlock solution?

And I’m glad everything is way better than before and especially you love the iPhone more now. ;)

  9. Hi, where can I buy iphone (firmware version 1.1.2) that work with DiGi Malaysia? How much ? Do I need to unlock iphone by MAXIMiPhone myself?

  10. Hey Ben,

My reseller guy said at the moment they’re not restocking due to the massive increase in price. Unless you’re willing to get it at more than RM3000.

They’ll unlock and everything for you. Just need to inform them.

If you’re still interested, I’ll email you their contact. :)

  11. Hi danny,

Just bought iphone FW 1.1.2 and tried to hack it myself. Then only I knew that 1.1.2 has not been able to be unlocked yet. The Dev Team is still finding ways to do it.

My question is, is MAXIMIphone able to do this? Can I have their contact #?

    Thanks

  12. Welcome to my blog, Rozie. :)

Some have unlock 1.1.2 but it’s not very stable. They’ve been experiencing problems after the upgrade.

Nonetheless, I’ve emailed you the contact for MAXIMiphone because I believe they would be able to help you out.

    Regards.

  13. Planing to get and iPhone next year after chinese new year ( bonus marr )….Hope version 1.1.2 is stable by that time. But worrying whether the price gona go up or not later then….

Good to have found this forum…:)

  14. That may be a good time to buy…that’s if they do reveal the rumoured 3G compatible Apple iPhone later. Plus, the prices may be still jacked up after Chinese New Year. That’s the common trend.

It’s better advice to buy it a month after CNY when everything starts to slow down again. As for 1.1.2, all we need is a stable unlock. The firmware is fine it’s just after unlocking it. ;)

  15. Thnkz Danny for the bit updates given. By the way who or where is MAXIMiphone located ? Can u give me sum info bout it ? , I’m from Ipoh actually, its easier for me if i come to KL later and just look for Maximiphone dealer…i ain’t wana go to Sg. Wang etc. n get a iphone, coz prices there are pretty high there, almost RM3,000 ? DAMN ( tats wat i heard those iphone freaks talking bout in sum forums ).

    Regards.

  16. I’ve emailed you personally and recommended what you could do in purchasing an iPhone in this time of crisis over the price hike. :)

  17. jim, at the moment there isn’t a real stable unlock method for 1.1.2. Those which I’ve heard them unlock face some issues here and there. Therefore, I’m still waiting for iPhoneSimFree to release their unlock method.

  18. hi, has anyone got a idea how to get the i phone downgraded back from 1.1.2 to the original 1.0.2, everone is thinking of how to solve the lock on new, atleast if we can get back to the old version we can use the i phone. i hope there will be someone out there who can get us out of this crazy situation. thanks and meery christmas

  19. hello
i’ve got an iphone with 1.1.1 version and I was playing with the installer when suddenly, i cant use my sim anymore, there is no signal, Does it mean that it was locked? Is there any possible way to unlocked it? I sent it to one of the shop here but they called me after 2 days telling me that they cant unlock it.. Please help!!!!!!!!!

  20. nelson:
I’ve not heard anyone downgrade all the way to 1.0.2 yet.

    liyanne:
Urm…that’s very odd. If you know how to unlock your iPhone, you may want to restore the iPhone and unlock again. However, you will lose all data when you restore later.

  21. thanks liyanne, the problem was i upgraded it to 1.1.2 from 1.0.2 and now the i phone os locked, i wld have thought there must be a way to downgrade to 1.0.2, i am not worried about the loosing of the data on the phone as long as it can work on 1.0.2 i will be the most happiest person, i am total mac user and i am surprised why apple wuld hve thought of locking people from using this wonderful gadget, the more the unlocks the more the users they will get. if you or anyone can guide me how to downgrade the version, i will appreciate that very much. have a great day

  22. On the 15th of January 2008, i accidentaly updated my Iphone from 1.1.2 ( which i unlocked with Turbosim ) to newest version 1.1.3 , Now my iphone is LOCKED…So tried to downgraded it back to version 1.1.1 ( Jailbreak it = Successfully ! ) Then try to unlock it with SImfree 1.1 ( Failed to Unlock , Reason : BaseBand Error ! )

Although i downgraded my 1.1.3 to 1.1.1 , In my –>General–>Settings–>iPhone Version is written 1.1.1 BUT Modem Firmware at below is 04.03.13_G which is for 1.1.3 version…Is this the “Baseband” issue when i try to unlock it with “SimFree 1.1” which i failed to Unlock ?

I’ve read all the forums about this Unlocking 1.1.3 version, mostly there will be an “UNLOCKING” method sooner or later, It’s just that they NEED to hang_on a while till SDK launches ( i wonder wats that SDK ) on 29 FEB

So my iPhone now is DEAD ! Just using it now as a iTouch player..kekeke..HOPE they won’t take such a long time to UNLOCK 1.1.3

Danny : By the way, wat version is selling now in the MArket ?

  23. Adrian, you also ‘itchy fingers’ pressed Update… :P

Anyway, it looks to me Apple is smart and no wonder it’s not easy to jailbreak when you updated to 1.1.3. It’s because once the baseband is changed, it’s difficult altering it back again.

Well, looks like you have to wait and see until Feb 29th.

As for the market price now, it’s difficult to say. LowYat is still selling around RM1800 albeit some with OTB and some without.

  24. Actual thinking back what i did that nite , i did not click the UPDATE BUtton…I Clicked to Choose Restore Only…Oh Ya… !!
But after clicking RESTORE they will be a 1.1.3 update also….

So u guys out there, don’t itchy itchy your fingers trying to click the UPDATE @ RESTORE Button for now…..

DAnny : Seen the LG Touchscreen Phones ( ex: KU990?? ) Alot of these new touchablescreen phones coming in the market…

    Later~~~

  25. Adrian, I’ve seen a lady use it. I’ve to say the first thing I noticed is the LG is still bulkier than the iPhone. However, if LG wants me to pit against one of their models against the iPhone, I’d be happy to oblige. :P

  26. Hi danny,

I have an iPhone bought & unlocked in HK.
It is still on firmware 1.0.2. I’ve been using it for 4-5months.

I recently tried a friend of mine which i believe it is on 1.1.3 and it seems faster and more stable.
I was thinking of upgrading but not before i found out what the steps were etc…

My “installer 3.0” programme has got any SIM 1.1.3 by ModMyiFone.com

Are you familiar with this programme?
    And should i upgrade?

    thank you

    jules

  27. I’ve not been successful in upgrading to 1.1.3 just yet. My last attempt had me go back to my reseller for some restoration. LOL!

Anyway, I’m unfamiliar with the application from ModMyiFone though I saw it in Installer. As to answer your question if you should upgrade, it’s entirely up to you. Ask yourself; do you need anything the 1.1.3 has to offer?

I upgraded to 1.1.1 previously because the 1.0.2 had volume troubles and I was good on 1.1.1. Currently, I’m on 1.1.2 and I’m noticing some quicker battery drainage.

  28. hey thanks for the prompt reply danny.

well i’ve got volume issues too, definitely not loud enough
do you have a reseller i could consult with?

cos not sure how to upgrade to 1.1.1

    cheers

  29. Jules, I think you’re having the common iPhone 1.0.2 problems. It was something to do with volume not being loud enough that even with maximum you can’t even hear the person on the other line.

I’ve emailed you the reseller contact so you could get in touch with them. Take note though he’s located in Malaysia but I hope he’ll be able to help. :)

  30. Hey Danny,

It’s been a while never check your forum…Finally i got my iPhone working again…This time i’d reminded myself not to click the update button again, anywayz it cost me RM500 to unlock it..DAMn..”””

So what is the latest news of iPhone 1.1.3 version…Got problems so far ?
I think having the oldest version of iPhone is more better than the latest ones…hehe”””

Ok mate, will drop back your forum soon…cya””

  31. Ouch, Adrian. Unfortunately my attempt to upgrade to 1.1.3 on my own had me going back to my reseller for some help. But I learnt it was a little mistake I made. So I’ll probably try upgrading later on again.

I’m right now on 1.1.2 and noticed the battery usage is much more compared to 1.1.1.

  32. hi danny..
I’m having some problem with my iPhone installer program recently(about a month ago).when I need to install any application via Installer, it appears “Error :Download package failed”.untill now the problem yet to be resolved.i can’t install any application since then.please help.thanks.

  33. Yus, I’ll get my new appointed iPhone ‘specialist’; Timothy, to help you out. Will inform him of your need of help. :)

  34. Hi there, Yus. To properly diagnose your problem, let’s start from the beginning, before you updated to 1.1.3. Could you please state the method(s) you used to perform the 1.1.3 upgrade and jailbreak? Using Nate True’s Modified iBrickr or the Dev Team’s official release… Whichever the method, I assume it was before the release of the ZiPhone tool, if you’ve heard of it. If the answer’s a yes, then I can probably figure out the root of the problem you now have.

Basically, during the first 2-3 weeks of the 1.1.3 jailbreaking scene with both Nate True’s and the Dev Team’s releases, the jailbreaking procedure were still extremely volatile and problematic, which I’ve personally been through myself. Just in case you were wondering, I was coincidentally hanging around the Conceited Software IRC networks when the Dev Team members announced their release, which then lead me onto the whole rocky experience from then on. Personally, I went through the 1.1.1 > 1.1.2 > 1.1.1 > 1.1.2 > 1.1.3 food chain a good 26 times…. Over a course of 2 1/2 days, and one of these 26 times was caused by the same problem you face now.

    # Part 1 : Explanation
Now, first let me explain the cause of this error you have. The “Error : Package Download Failed” problem is caused by the changes in the filesystem in 1.1.3, as well as the changes in how Installer.app interacts with it. Among these changes mentioned are the additional ‘/mobile’ directory under /var, as well as moving the entire /var folder and its subfolders to a new root folder called /private. But I’ll spare you the intricate details anyway… The whole issue here is that a successful upgrade to 1.1.3 required Installer.app to be updated to the latest version which allowed 1.1.3 compatibility BEFORE you made the upgrade, while the phone was still in 1.1.2. Without doing so, Installer.app isn’t able to update even itself after the upgrade because it can’t interact with the modified new filesystem.

    #Part 2 : Solution
Unfortunately, to my best knowledge, the only current solution to this problem would be to restore back to 1.1.1 and restart the whole upgrading process. Yes, it does sound upsetting or disappointing even… But bear in mind, you can now use ZiPhone to perform the 1.1.3 upgrade instead of having to hang with the older previous methods where the 1.1.3 IPSW file was split in half to ONLY install the OS, leaving the baseband untouched. Restore your phone to 1.1.1, perform the 1.1.2 jailbreak and update process, then proceed to restoring your phone to 1.1.3 on iTunes, finally using ZiPhone to do the rest. One more sidenote before you begin, if you have synced your phone to iTunes while running 1.1.3, it means your backup file is also 1.1.3 now, which translates into a backup copy which is only compatible with 1.1.3 and above.

    #Part 3 : Verdict
Remember to update Installer.app to its latest version and uninstall all applications excluding Installer itself, BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH while still on 1.1.2 BEFORE attempting the 1.1.3 upgrade to prevent such issues from recurring.

Hope this solves your problem. Please post your feedback with the outcome later on. Thanks :) Timothy

  35. Hello Danny and Timothy…im having the same problem with yus recently…but my Iphone is using 1.1.2 Firmware and Turbosim. It appears ‘Error: Download Package Failed” Now…after splash out nearly 2K for the phone i dont think my phone is so special when i cant even use the installer again..sighhhh…please help me too..Thank u guys..

  36. Hello there..

im using iphone 1.1.2 Firmware and bought from US about 3 months ago..the battery can last only 1 – 1 1/2 day for just making few calls..few smses n few surfing on WiFi..is it normal?? now..everyday i have to charge it..sighhhh

  37. Faizal:
I’ll let Timothy let you know if you’re experiencing the same problem. Though I’ve a hunch it might be the same.

    Hafiz:
Few isn’t very descriptive and I know it’ll be difficult stating a figure but you gotta give an idea to us. I’m running on 1.1.2 and do have 3-5 SMSes plus 5-10 calls per day and also check my mail or surf the net often.

My average battery life I would say is about there too. Previously on 1.1.1 I didn’t have to charge often but noticed on 1.1.2 now, I charge either daily or the next day.

So I think it’s the firmware thing. Not sure how the battery life is on 1.1.3 or 1.1.4 though.

  38. Thanks danny for your information…i think apple should look into it..they should come with a better n longger battery life

  39. Hi Danny…
    My name is Jonathan Philip..
My Dad just bought me an iPhone in Miri,Sarawak
Anyway do you know how to unlock an iPhone 1.1.4 firmware??

  40. And Danny please do help me….
    i really need your help…
i got frustrated when it isnt working…
and its such a waste since i just updated it to 1.1.4 firmware….
    (T_T)…..
It says i cant open it…..
cause my SIM card is not appropriate….

  41. Jonathan, was the iPhone working when you got it? And did you click Update and Install when iTunes prompted you to do so?

If you answered Yes to both, it would mean you made one of the mistakes every new iPhone user makes; updating.

If it wasn’t working when you got it, it would mean your iPhone is a virgin iPhone which requires to be unlocked and jailbreaked.

As to how to get it working now, I’ll let Timothy know what to tell you. :)

  42. Dear Jonathan,

To unlock your 1.1.4 updated phone now, simply search for and download either one of the following apps (both Windows and OSX) : iPlus 2.0b or ZiPhone 2.6. Extract them from their archives into a folder, then run the main EXE files. A full GUI application with come up, then just select your required tools to run. Depending on which week your iPhone is, or which bootloader it came with to be more specific, you may or may not want to use the unlock function as it will downgrade your 4.6 bootloaders to 3.9, which may very well eliminate any remaining possible chances of reclaiming your warranty should such a thing be required.

But anyways, I’ll just skip the tech gibberish. In ZiPhone, select Do It All and follow the instructions. In iPlus, select the identical options and apply. Let the app run their course, following the step-by-step informations on screen. Don’t worry if terminal codes start appearing on your iPhone, it’s completely normal. And WHATEVER YOU DO, DON’T DISCONNECT YOUR PHONE FOR ANY REASON. Unless of course, you like expensive RM2k bricks to throw around… After it’s all done, your phone should be fully unlocked and activated, ready for you to start using once again!

And that’s it! If you still face any problems or have any questions after this, please don’t hesitate to contact Danny or myself. Thanks

    Sincerely,
    Timothy

  43. I gotta hand it to ya….
    You guys are amazing…..
    Thanks a lot…..
You both helped me a lot……^^

  44. You’re most welcome, Jonathan. Just drop us another comment if you have any more questions. We’ll be happy to help you as far as possible. Thanks again for the inquiry.

    Regards,
    Timothy

  45. Oh yes….
    Another thing Guys…..
If the bootloader have been downgraded by the unlockers……
is that a bad thing or a good thing??
    cause i was just worried….
    Of wat you guYs…said…….
    So is it bad….??
cause i dont quite get it…??
    …..^^

  46. Dear Jonathan,

Relax. Having your bootloader downgraded is not a bad thing to fear. In fact, the whole reason behind the incorporation of this downgrade feature in both these apps is simple because Bootloader 3.9 has always been the easiest to build apps and conduct any form on hacking on. With that in mind, in terms of functionality, having your bootloader downgraded is in fact a huge gain instead of a loss. Come to think of it, this software-based method of downgrading to Bootloader 3.9 was pretty much the most hoped for miracle since the release of 1.1.2 iPhones. All hail George Hotz, once again… :)

Now, the reason I mentioned the post-bootloader downgrade warranty issues is pretty simple too. The bootloader is a very integrated part of the iPhone which isn’t stored in the flash memory and thus isn’t supposed to be modifiable in the first place, which even Apple doesn’t touch in their own firmware updates. Basically, if your phone was supposed to contain the bootloader 4.6, the Apple Geniuses who inspect your phone during your warranty claims would expect to find that too. Problem here is, while bootloader 4.6 can be downgraded to 3.9, it’s only a one-way route, meaning there’s no reversing of this change. Now I guess you could probably figure out how this affects the warranty issues I mentioned earlier. Anyhow, there haven’t been any confirmed reports of Apple Geniuses actually checking the bootloaders thus far, so there’s no reason to fret. Neither are there any heightened possibilities of having a defective iPhone after using it for some time…

Hope this helps answer your curiousity. It’s good to know that some local iPhone users actually take interest in technical details instead of just the surface functionalities. Thanks for the question, mate.

    Sincerely,
    Timothy

  47. Thanks a lot Timothy….
    That really help me….
I’ll be sure to contact you both again…
    Keep in touch….^^

  48. Thanks a lot Timothy….
    That really help me….
I’ll be sure to contact you both again…
    Keep in touch….^^

    Sincerely,

    Jonathan

  49. hey guys,

I have an iPhone using firmware 1.0.2. I’m noticing it’s getting to be unstable, dropped lines (unless that’s just maxis?), and freezing up etc…so i am considering updating but am extremely nervous cos i’ve got tonnes of info i need in my iPhone…

How do i update to say 1.1.2 or 1.1.3? (mine has been jailbroken using software, i believe)
    What software do i use?
My installer program also offers anySim, you guys familiar w this?

    many thanks

    julian

  50. Dear Jules,

As a matter of fact, there is no longer any reasons for you to feel nervous about a firmware update, as long as it has been jailbroken and unlocked by the Dev Teams. Why? Simple. First, it’s mostly GUI based now, with barely ANY command line dilemmas left unlike in the past with 1.0.2. Also, you need not fear any form of data loss from you phone because iTunes actually backs up everything in your phone including your photos, settings, notes, media and most importantly contacts everything you dock and sync your phone. In other words, just make sure that iTunes contains the latest sync of your iPhone before you perform the update.

As of now, you can skip the 1.1.1 up till 1.1.3 activations altogether. Here’s what you should do. Download the 1.1.4 IPSW file from the link at the bottom of this post. Take note that it will appear as a ZIP archive, but ignore that. Next, after throughly syncing your iPhone, and aligning the butterflies in your tummy to fly in formation :P, hold Shift and click on the “Restore” button in iTunes under your iPhone’s tab, assuming you’re running Windows of course. A Windows Explorer window will come up, where you’re then required to search and select the 1.1.4 IPSW file you downloaded earlier. Double-click on that, and let iTunes run the update.

Now, after it’s done with the update, you will find your phone in its locked state as you first saw it prior to your 1.0.2 unlock as well. Same ol’ “Slide For Emergency” screen. :) Now, just remember to keep your iPhone docked throughout this entire procedure unless mentioned otherwise. Next, download ZiPhone 2.6b from the 2nd link below. Run it and let in extract into your Program Files directory. It will then open up ZiPhoneGUI.exe and a gorgeous GUI unlocking application will come up before you. After checking again that your iPhone is docked and ready, click on the huge “Do It All!” button and let it run its course. Remember, terminal commands will start appearing on your iPhone, while the app or iPhone may freeze for a while at a certain point. Relax, this is completely normal, so don’t panic and attemot to disconnect your iPhone or end the process prematurely, unless you like RM2k paperweights… After it’s done, a ‘Completed/Done” pop-up will appear on your PC, while your phone reboots. Presto! Your iPhone boots up completely jailbroken, unlcoked and activated.

Pop in your SIM card, resync your phone in iTunes 7.6 with your old backup. iTunes will prompt you to do so when your freshly activated iPhone reboots. REMEMBER to select Restore Backup of xxx’s iPhone, not Set Up As New Phone, or else ITunes will automatically discard your old backup files. After that part’s also done, your iPhone will be running 1.1.4 like a charm. Reinstall your Installer.app 3rd party apps and your phone will be exactly where you left it earlier. Hope that helps!

    Sincerely,
    Timothy

  51. thank you very much for that timothy. i really appreciate your detailed response.

May i ask if you know whether 3rd party apps such as SMSD, WeDict, SendSong, WeTool work with firmware 1.14?

I downloaded smsd & sendsong for my friend’s iphone 1.1.3 but they both don’t work…

    thanks again!

    julian

  52. Hey,
I’ve recently unlocked my iPhone with ZiPhone, and I’m wondering; What happens to my warranty?
Is there any way to keep the warranty if an iPhone is unlocked?

    Thank you.
