Update – 26th September 2005, 12:56AM
Added other bloggers who attended to the list.
I first came across the news of the bloggers gathering from the PPS Review website. Though Errolyn (the so-called more popular half) wasn’t attending, that didn’t deter me from wanting to meet other bloggers like Peter Tan who mentioned about the meeting in Last Call for Bloggers Meet.
Bloggers like Dustyhawk also helped to spread word of the gathering through his Midvalley Megamall Gathering post. Though the list of bloggers supposedly attending looked short, I think other bloggers dropped by for a short stop.
The whole point of the blogger meeting to me was getting to know the bloggers away from their blogs. This enabled me to see the authors for who they really are and if they do find sanctuary in the homes of their blogs. After all, their blogs are used for a lot of ranting and debates that when discussed in a public area draws quite a lot of attention during a meetup like this
It was only a small group of them hanging outside the venue of the Oasis Food Court before 3PM. We passed them once but I didn’t dare say a thing for mistaken identity can be really embarassing. Especially when the question could be, “urm, excuse me, are you the author of this blog..?”
After some lunch and walking around, me and Ariel finally decided to just join the group and thank goodness the ice kinda broke cause Ariel knew Dustyhawk though not close. The first blogger I met was Raymond Tey who admits that he rarely blogs and has just developed a system like Blogger. Take his system for a spin at: www.cybersist.com
After a few minutes, the whole group decided to move in while I was still kinda wondering who was who in our small little party. There was no point guessing who’s the blogger because we all look like the average Malaysian.
When seated we hogged 3 tables of the food court right away without hesitation. I think there were about 11 bloggers and due to the odd number, some sat at different tables. After another few minutes into getting to know one another, though I doubt some of them already knew each other, I only had Raymond to get to know.
By around 3:30PM, another group of bloggers like 5-7 came along and then Peter Tan was present. Another familiar face came along to see our noisy bunch of bloggers; Chooki of Minishorts. So it was time to get my bum off the chair and break some ice. Sometimes it’s best to take the first initiative in such a friendly party.
I finally know now by face who are bloggers like SK, Dustyhawk, DZOF, MENJ, Yvonne Foong, Sashi, Tiger Joe, Raymond, Andreas, Frostier, and 8dee. There are actually a couple more bloggers that I didn’t have the chance to meet so I apologize if I didn’t list you down. But I’ll update this post later when someone like Sashi or Dusty later puts up their post on the meeting.
So what did we do? As Peter told me, I didn’t have to worry about losing topics to discuss on because with bloggers from varying interests, we were discussing like old friends. While everyone was getting to know each other and discussing issues they might’ve blogged on, the other better half from PPS Review; DZOF, was busy interviewing bloggers for the next podcast. I’m betting it’s going to be a really interesting and probably long and not heavy file.
At the meetup, I was also able to meetup with old time friends like Chea Yee and Albert. I suppose this is one of the benefits in joining the blogging community.
Though me and Ariel dismissed ourselves at about 5PM there were still more than a handful of bloggers and I hope they remember to arrange the tables and chairs in their original positions when they leave. Don’t want the management to boycott bloggers in future. LoL!
Oh yeah, anyone interested in attending a bloggers Christmas / New Years Eve bash? We’d need a pretty big venue though. Suggestions anyone?
