Malaysia clients are suckers for the Flash trend. One look at competitor websites that have Flash and a chain reaction of jealousy (not envy) jumps in. They want something alike if not better without having foresight and care for their customers.
I even intentionally asked a prospective client if I’m looking to buy your product, what will I be doing on your website? It was easily answered; to find out more information about their product. The next scenario I follwed up with was if I was there to find more information, why will I be looking at the ‘moving element’ on the website?
I might look at it once but after that, why would I want to look at it again? What further value would it be able to offer me? And I haven’t even started questioning the fact if I even have Flash player or the broadband line is having one of its days.
It really disheartens me to find out that there are these many clients who have no foresight for their website and their customers. No wonder we don’t have many successful business websites in Malaysia. No wonder Singapore websites are winning international awards and not us.
I respect the clients who are willing to learn and find out more on creating extra value for their Flash usage. I praise clients who understand the angle we try to explain when they want to implement Flash. These are clients brave enough to set ego aside and really listen.
If the Flash isn’t interactive nor is it going to be able to sell something to your customer, why even have it in the first place? Is it just to fulfill your ego? Do you think it’ll fulfill the customer’s ego?
I bet 9 out of 10 Malaysia clients you’ve approached won’t be able to answer you if you asked; what are the future plans of your corporate website?
How many clients have you had that the Flash trend have made them lose foresight?
